Although I woudlnt agree it’s the best one they have ever made period. It’s definitely a fuckin BANGER of a raid even with the occasional soft lock. Like damn is it just such a sick raid
The campaign alone makes this my favourite DLC, with a soundtrack like this here's hoping the raid is one of the greats, up along side last wish and Wrath of the machine
Themes and motifs sometimes contain hidden messages or meaning in them. 2:07 - Rise (from vanilla D2 OST) and 2:37 - Guardian (from D1 OST) During the middle phase where all of us step onto the platform to face Rhulk, the motif of Rise starts playing. And once the actual DPS phase begins, the music shifts to Guardian. Clearly the music is trying to say RISE GUARDIAN and fight against the Darkness.

2:06 personally was my favorite part. If this encounter was a movie, I think of the 6-man raid team and rhulk physically and verbally clash the concepts of dark and light into an all-out brawl both parties
man my thoughts exactly! It's like this tugging motion where the battle is up in the air, with "the light" making ground while Rhulk shows off his prowess and skill, only to mess up at 2:37 and allow us a window of opportunity. This song is such a banger.
There's a good reason Rhulk is my favorite Raid Boss. Unlike other bosses who keeps shooting you or just summons a ton of minions, this guy comes down and kicks ass both literally and metaphorically during his damage phase.
I absolutely love the beginning, it’s like shit is about to come down again after trying for the 53 times. Damn Rhulk is definitely my favorite boss of D2, so regal and callous
@@mrblackbird6936 I'm %110 certain that was one of the two lies. "You will wield the power to move worlds." was definitely one truth, because I'd be shocked if Taking doesnt become a Darkness subclass in next two expansions. I cant figure out which is a lie or truth from the other statements.
i think overall this is the best raid final boss ost weve had so far. oryx and aksis's themes slap, ca'uors theme goes hard, and crota and sanctified themes are solid rave beats but this song just hits different, idk. i cant stop listening to it, its so sick
The only reason we beat Rhulk is because he was so shit eatingly full of himself. Now, he was infinitesimally more powerful than us, but he was so overly confident in himself that he underestimated the power of a collective of Guardians that would be his downfall. The beginning of the track being a very loud Darkness theme cutting to an extremely grandiose section is clearly Rhulk's part of the song, while the Guardian motif is when we figure out and exploit Rhulk's weakness, his narcissism. Rhulk never even broke a sweat in our fight with him, and after whittling him down far enough, the final stand is when he realized it was too late and that he underestimated us. Only then he used just a fraction of his power to try and make it even by killing us before he died, but with the combined power of a fireteam we were able to finish him.
I love how you can hear the struggle between Light and Dark in the song, it's my favorite song in all of Destiny as of right now (maybe lightfall has a better raid soundtrack 👀👀👀) Speaking of Guardians in the Pyramid, I also love how it's canon that not all the Guardians that went in the Pyramid came back out alive. Really goes to show how dangerous Rhulk and the Pyramids are.
It still baffles me how little the Darkness foes sees Guardians the most scaletipping power houses that have powers that can obliterate armies as just mere fodder. And despite the fact that our Guardians being the most powerful of the ones that came before get curb stomped by a disciple of the darkness that isn't even trying is a terrifying thought, almost makes you feel insignificant in the grand scheme of the flower game. 'Almost'
Up untill today I had Beyond Light's title theme as my phone ringing melody and people were scared when it rang 🤣🤣 Cant wait to see their faces when this rings

@@EepyGirlLava I believe Rhulk is stronger than all worm gods. Inside his pyramid he literally has Xita, the Nurturing Worm trapped, which is the mother of the wormgods, including Xol (Warmind). I can imagine you have to be pretty damn strong to incapacitate one of those.
That epic and bombastic arrangement of the Darkness leitmotif at the beginning just screams pure evil, which is exactly what Rhulk personifies. I love this raid so much!
Expectation: big scorn with prymid aspects and at 2:07 damage phase Reality: what if we put final fantasy into dark souls? And made it the whole fight?
2:07-3:08 when you first walk into Rhulks arena and have to shoot his weak points, and then the damage phase begins is the perfect display for what it means to be a guardian. Clapping the cheeks of gods
I love how this theme itself feels like a battle between Rhulk and Guardians, you can hear the struggle for victory between Rhulk's dark and bombastic Darkness leitmotif and the heroic and desperate Guardian theme.
That first part of the theme is incredible, when I first heard it I got so many chills and even felt a little scared. That theme we heard all the way back from the end of Red War was haunting us, meaning “the darkness is here, you can’t run any longer”
How the music starts clearly with the pyramid theme, and stays in that bassy register the whole time during the dunking phase, and it begins to lift as you phase to the platform, and then how it soars into the original Guardian theme when you hit damage phase, this music is itself a clash of Destiny's light and darkness. Absolutely phenomenal expansion.
Killing this boss and getting a full clear on contest was the most satisfying and challenging thing I’ve ever done in this game. GG Bungie, can’t wait to see what’s next
I absolutely live for the Guardian motif appearing in boss tracks! Like we're overpowering their theme with our own, proving our strength in the face of total annihilation
i put this on during a Dares round against Valus Tau'arc and the end of the music coincided with the end of the fight. best thing ever, good job Bungie.
Same think it’s a way that bunnies trying to move raid bosses from standing completely still. Even with dsc Taniks moved around a lot I like them moving tho makes them more intimidating
Arrogance in the flesh, Rhulk never took the fight seriously until the final stand. By then his own arrogance had gotten the best of him and his fate was sealed. The Rhulk we fight is a dimished Lubraean, no longer at the height of his power and forgotten by his master to an extent. Savathun's plan of keeping him locked out was succesful in weaking him.

Nezarec checks under his bed at night for Rhulk.
The best experience i've ever got while playing destiny 2. We couldn't get him on day one, but managed to beat him on second day. Good job Bungie.
Finally an encounter where I’m not forced to run Well, this encounter is very well designed.
Absolutely LOVED how Rhulk would rather meet you face to face during DPS phase just to kick your ass, literally.
The campaign alone makes this my favourite DLC, with a soundtrack like this here's hoping the raid is one of the greats, up along side last wish and Wrath of the machine
Themes and motifs sometimes contain hidden messages or meaning in them. 2:07 - Rise (from vanilla D2 OST) and 2:37 - Guardian (from D1 OST)
During the middle phase where all of us step onto the platform to face Rhulk, the motif of Rise starts playing. And once the actual DPS phase begins, the music shifts to Guardian. Clearly the music is trying to say RISE GUARDIAN and fight against the Darkness.
Underrated comment
Can also mean to tell us to rise from the deep
then the first thing to hear after that is "Guardian down!" 🤣
super fuckin obsessed with themes and motifs atm but I am miserably shit at finding them myself. thank you for this amazing comment, much love
Thats actually amazing
This is defined a Raid encounter soundtrack, I’ve never heard the pyramids theme so menacingly
Probably because the name of the raid is vow of the disciple
@@crealiuss think we all knew this would be the raid bosses theme as soon as it released with the name the first disciple and the raid being called vow of the disiple

@@BombasticBooger what about it?
This for some reason reminds me of Oryx's theme.
The rumbling the the song starts is just like oryx
very ominous brass
Savathun: the taken king will return
@@mrblackbird6936 I'm %110 certain that was one of the two lies.
"You will wield the power to move worlds." was definitely one truth, because I'd be shocked if Taking doesnt become a Darkness subclass in next two expansions.
I cant figure out which is a lie or truth from the other statements.
@@KutluMizrak might aswell be truth since the taken king raid is most likely returning anyways
Love that the guardian theme at 2:06 is always incorporated in these boss songs. So good!
Almost like it’s fighting for control over the music
i think overall this is the best raid final boss ost weve had so far. oryx and aksis's themes slap, ca'uors theme goes hard, and crota and sanctified themes are solid rave beats but this song just hits different, idk. i cant stop listening to it, its so sick
We need more raid bosses with the same aggressiveness as Rhulk
Not sure if you played Doom Eternal. The way rhulk moves during dps kinda reminds me of the marauder.
I want to believe that it is the beginning of such bosses.
I love how you can hear the struggle between Light and Dark in the song, it's my favorite song in all of Destiny as of right now (maybe lightfall has a better raid soundtrack 👀👀👀)
Speaking of Guardians in the Pyramid, I also love how it's canon that not all the Guardians that went in the Pyramid came back out alive. Really goes to show how dangerous Rhulk and the Pyramids are.
@@TheGamingGojira wait really? Like other fireteams made it to Rhulk but died in lore? Is there any place I can read on this more?
It still baffles me how little the Darkness foes sees Guardians the most scaletipping power houses that have powers that can obliterate armies as just mere fodder. And despite the fact that our Guardians being the most powerful of the ones that came before get curb stomped by a disciple of the darkness that isn't even trying is a terrifying thought, almost makes you feel insignificant in the grand scheme of the flower game. 'Almost'
The beginning hits harder than that one time I accidentally deleted my Lead to Gold Vorpal fusion rifle. Oh my god.
Parts of this sound so Bloodborne-esque, yet it’s so distinctly destiny. What a masterpiece
Love the nod to journey at the 2:30 minute mark
Up untill today I had Beyond Light's title theme as my phone ringing melody and people were scared when it rang 🤣🤣 Cant wait to see their faces when this rings
I also need this as my phone ringtone

Rhulk is canonically the strongest (and coolest) boss in all of destiny, AND he gets a kickass theme. Bungie you are really treating this lubraean
Is he stronger than that worm god we killed in warmind, Id thought the hive god was stronger, but then again idk the power scaling of disciple or worm god (also I know this comment is a year old, but if u do still happen to know, id be curios0

2:07-3:08 when you first walk into Rhulks arena and have to shoot his weak points, and then the damage phase begins is the perfect display for what it means to be a guardian. Clapping the cheeks of gods
At the same time it's Rhulks Damage phase against Guardians by Kicking them out of existence
@@christianrios153 And before the damage phase, it's always terrifying to see him turn around and face you.

I absolutely live for the Guardian motif appearing in boss tracks! Like we're overpowering their theme with our own, proving our strength in the face of total annihilation
i put this on during a Dares round against Valus Tau'arc and the end of the music coincided with the end of the fight. best thing ever, good job Bungie.
that is the BEST soundtrack in the game.
2:38 chills, just chills
Meanwhile during into the light: "sir, a second rhulk has hit the pantheon"
I've been listening to this nonstop to hype myself up and it still hasn't gotten old. Im ready to spend 8 hours on that boss today
Still the best raid boss theme 2 years later at the end of this saga.
The Darkness’s theme leading into Rhulk’s is the best thing ever and you cannot tell me otherwise.
I love how every boss in this raid moved around....they were always moving
Same think it’s a way that bunnies trying to move raid bosses from standing completely still. Even with dsc Taniks moved around a lot I like them moving tho makes them more intimidating
Arrogance in the flesh, Rhulk never took the fight seriously until the final stand. By then his own arrogance had gotten the best of him and his fate was sealed. The Rhulk we fight is a dimished Lubraean, no longer at the height of his power and forgotten by his master to an extent. Savathun's plan of keeping him locked out was succesful in weaking him.
