Although Intarsia pieces can be stained to achieve the desired shades and colors, this is not often done in traditional Intarsia wood work. The parts can be chosen from oak and pine, walnut and cherry. The different characteristics of the woods contribute to the finished effect. Often all that is needed to complete the pattern is a clear varnish or polyurethane to preserve the piece's beauty.
question. I have just started Intarsia and the problem I have is the gaps between pieces. are too big. The contours don't meet very well. The objects look deformed. I use a scroll saw but I must be doing something wrong. Got any recommendations?
I am 70 and decided large woodworking projects are getting tiresome. I am excited about trying intarsia in my shop. I was artist as a youth and think this might help me visualize a project.
