@@BisscuteReactsThis video for some reason has a different sound than the album. I agree this video sounds like arcade music the way the instrumental mix comes across. If you ever get a chance, you might want to listen to the album version - it sounds MUCH better.
The best thing about this song is the lyrics. You have to listen carefully. It's an anthem for guys who struggle to get promoted from the Friend Zone. But overall a good song. The Doobies have a deep and excellent catalog. Do Long Train Runnin' or Listen to the Music. *Very* different sound.
I thought the song was about being painfully naive. He always thought they had potential and felt she was a big part of his life, but she never had feelings for him, not even as a friend. Hence the title.
Back in the 70's a member of this band lived down the road from me up in the redwoods. Sometimes could here him practicing or see him riding his motorcycle into town
There is basically two versions of the Doobie Brothers , the one you saw here with Michael MacDonald as the lead vocalist. The other version split vocal duties between Tom Johnston and Patrick Simmons , with their version having a more country rock sound.
❤ hi miss bisscute the Deobbie Brothers always had good music to dance to you can tell because you were grovein to it 😮 thank you for your time and your reactions ❤
The guy in the sunglasses playing the guitar is Jeff 'Skunk' Baxter, who played some of the most iconic guitar solos of all time in Steely Dan....and oh by the way, he is also a rocket scientist
The deep rabbit hole dive of the 60,70,80,90 . Its so rich, warm, everyone was searching, experimenting and singing because they love to sing from their hearts and souls .
Very good reaction. I remember first hearing Doobie Brothers in the early-mid 70's before my teen years on the radio of my dads stereo console. I love the song "Taking it to the Streets". Doobie brothers were a handful of bands that featured 2 drummers.
The guitarist wearing glasses and sitting down is Jeff "Skunk" Baxter. When he's not playing guitar, he's a missile defense expert with US top secret security clearances.
The lead singer is Michael McDonald, and he was influential in this era, circulating with several artists. As for the band, they had a more country rock sound earlier, and then when they acquired McDonald they were jazzy, like this song.
I love the Dobbies. I saw them on new years eve, 1978/79. At the Fabulous Forum. Eddie money opened for them. I really liked the double brothers before Michael Mcdonald. Long train running. One of my favorite albums.
Yeah, Biss, Love this golden oldie. It's definitely got that upbeat vibes with great vocals and unique instrumentals. Love that double keyboard organ? Nice throwback, Biss. 😊
The Doobie Brothers was formed in San Jose, south of my hometown San Francisco. Written by Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins. It won a Grammy for Song of the Year in 1979 . Michael McDonald joined the Doobie Brothers in 1979. They performed this song in What's Happening. This song is similar to Steal Away the Night sung by Robbie Dupree. Same key. He was busy in the 1970s and 1980s singing with Steely Dan, Christopher Cross, Patti Labelle, the late James Ingram, RIP, and Toto in addition to singing with The Doobie Brothers and as a solo singer. Suggested videos: 1 Christopher Cross and Michael McDonald sing Ride Like the Wind. 2 Toto and Michael McDonald perform I'll Be Over You. 3 Michael McDonald and Patti Labelle sing On My Own.
The lead singer, Michael McDonald, went on to become a highly established solo artist. Back in the 1980s he was literally everywhere. He did some back up with Steely Dan and a notable duet with Patti LaBelle. (On My Own) He was with the Doobie Brothers for two albums then moved onto his solo career. Take care.....
The Lead Singer was Michael McDonald... He had a great Solo Career in the 80's. You'd love a Duet he did with Patti LaBelle called "If you asked me to".
The Doobie Brothers had their first hit in 1972 with "Listen to the Music," an excellent song that would be worth a reaction. Michael McDonald, the lead singer in "What a Fool Believes," joined the band in April, 1975. His presence transformed the sound on the band. Before McDonald, they were more of a straight rock band, and after they had more of an R&B sound. They always had those harmonies, though. Pre-McDonald songs: - Listen to the Music - Jesus Is Just Alright - Long Train Runnin' - China Grove - Black Water Songs with Michael McDonald: - Take Me In Your Arms (Rock Me) - Takin' It to the Streets - It Keeps You Runnin' - Minute by Minute "Black Water" is The Doobie Brothers' most distinctive song. It doesn't sound like anything else. If you liked the harmonies in "What a Fool Believes," you should give it a listen. "Long Train Runnin'" is a favorite of mine. I'd love for you to react to it.
Yes! Love me some Doobies! (By the way, for your information if you didn't already know, a "doobie" is an old slang term for a Marijuana joint/cigarette. I guess because another slang term for Marijuana used to be "dubage", but I really don't know why, where those terms came from, or which one came first?) The important thing to know about The Doobie Brothers is that there are sort of two eras of the band. They're from the 70s, into the 80s mainly, and their original lead singer was Tom Johnston, and when he was the lead singer they had more of a 70s Southern Rock sound, even though they were from California, but after a few years, he started having health problems and couldn't perform, so Michael McDonald who was already part of the band, took over as lead singer, and their sound changed when he did. This is with Michael McDonald, who is actually a really amazing and unique, sometimes underappreciated singer, and he went on to have a good solo career in the 80s. Both versions of the Doobies are really good, just kind of different, and I think it goes to show how talented and versatile they were as a band all together. Just a handful of suggestions to get you started, from the Tom Johnston era, a few good ones are "Long Train Running", "Listen To The Music", and "Black Water", and a couple more from the Michael McDonald era are "It Keeps You Running" and "Takin' It To The Streets".
As for Rebel Yell, these are the Songs, closest to it: 1. Sunglasses at Night by Corey Hart 2. Something to Do by Depeche Mode 3. I Feel You by Depeche Mode 4. Melt with You - Modern English 5. Sometimes a Fantasy by Billy Joel
Songs with similar Energy and Vibes: 1. Please Don't Go by KC & the Sunshine Band 2. Nightbird - Kalapana 3. The Hurt - Kalapana 4. The Sleepwalkers - Level 42 5. Kiss on My List - Hall & Oates 6. You Can Do Magic - America
There is a great song and video that is rarely played or reacted to. It is Philip Bailey singing "Walking On The Chinese Wall". Philip is the falsetto voice with Earth Wind and Fire. I hope you can soon play it. (it also shows how very good is his normal range voice)
Hi Biss 👋 I hope you are having an amazing day. I am. I am starting my day with coffee and a couple scoops of shimmi. Plain ol sugar isn’t sweet enough. ✌️😉💕🌹
One of my favorite songs ever. Deeply sad and nostalgic, the music is performed flawlessly, it's very catchy. It's a shame you didn't like it, but it's an anthem for sad people like me.
[Verse 1] He came from somewhere back in her long ago The sentimental fool don't see Tryin' hard to recreate What had yet to be created once in her life She musters a smile for his nostalgic tale Never coming near what he wanted to say Only to realize it never really was [Pre-Chorus] She had a place in his life He never made her think twice As he rises to her apology Anybody else would surely know He's watching her go [Chorus] But what a fool believes, he sees No wise man has the power to reason away What seems to be Is always better than nothing Than nothing at all [Verse 2] Keeps sending him somewhere back in her long ago Where he can still believe there's a place in her life Someday, somewhere She will return See The Doobie Brothers Live Get tickets as low as $98 You might also like Family Matters Drake The Tortured Poets Department Taylor Swift So Long, London Taylor Swift [Pre-Chorus] She had a place in his life He never made her think twice As he rises to her apology Anybody else would surely know He's watching her go [Chorus]
The Doobie Brothers had a lot of good songs, such as "China Grove" and "I Cheat the Hangman." Other songs for you to try out, from many different genres and even a few mind-bending styles: "Love In the First Degree," by Alabama; "I'm Not In Love," by 10CC (if you want to hear something incredibly beautiful but really unusual, this song is it!); "Devil Woman," by Cliff Richard; "You're the Only Woman," by Ambrosia; also by Ambrosia, "Holding On To Yesterday"; "Council of the Holy," by Petra; "In My Dreams," by Giant; "Fox on the Run," by Sweet; "Ebony Eyes," by Bob Welch; "Take It Away," by Paul McCartney; "Heat of the Moment," by Asia; "Return To Dust," by Theocracy; "Streets of Paradise," by Vixen; "Plastic Love," by Maria Takeuchi; "Once And For All," by Disciple; and "The Voice," by Celtic Woman.
In its time, this song was a mega hit. The Doobie Brothers were big before adding Michael McDonald (lead singer here) to the band. His addition changed their sound, but also gave them a second wave of success. If you want to hear a song from their earlier era, I would suggest either "Black Water" or "Listen to the Music." For another song from the Michael McDonald era, I would suggest "Taking It to the Streets."
Enjoyed. The Doobies first lineup included Tom Johnston, guitars songwriter vocals. When Tom left the band due to illness, Michael McDonald joined and he brought a more R&B sound. Tom later returned and Michael had a successful solo career. They have some wonderful songs.😊😊❤❤

[Verse 1]
He came from somewhere back in her long ago
The sentimental fool don't see
Tryin' hard to recreate
What had yet to be created once in her life
She musters a smile for his nostalgic tale
Never coming near what he wanted to say
Only to realize it never really was
[Pre-Chorus]
She had a place in his life
He never made her think twice
As he rises to her apology
Anybody else would surely know
He's watching her go
[Chorus]
But what a fool believes, he sees
No wise man has the power to reason away
What seems to be
Is always better than nothing
Than nothing at all
[Verse 2]
Keeps sending him somewhere back in her long ago
Where he can still believe there's a place in her life
Someday, somewhere
She will return
