We found out earlier this year that it takes 3 Jimnies to overcome the mammoth G63 in a tug-of-war, but how will this little 4x4 fair in an offroad race? @@Jack-yt8ml you must be rich, and not afraid to ruin your car. That's a pretty much narrow demographic. Even narrower than the already small percentage of people who actually bring the off-roaders off road.
@@DerpEye Usually you aren't afraid to ruin your car, if you are rich. It's pretty common sense actually. What the problem is, is that most people that have money aren't really interested in off-roading. They are 2 separate things.
The thing is built like a tank. Way more so than any of it's competition. This is what most people overlook and in which case has led to exactly zero problems. Other than naturally blown tires.
The performance of Jimny is way beyond my expectations for a £15,000 car. Not a fancy off-roader but definitely worth the money.

Suzuki could sell the hell out of it in the US. The problem is just that they cannot produce enough units to cover the demand. I think here in Europe the waitlist is over a year.
US market big cars thirsty and Consumer Reports fake information dumped off Suzuki of the US. They are doing really well anyway and on recent years have been in the top ten of car manufacturers by volume. I’m very happy with my 2020 Jimny and can say is a shame there is an automotive mafia in the US who limit your access to nice vehicles.

@@australiamak2488 The G wagon is much worse off road because it's heavier, has longer wheel base and more rigid frame (AMG model) which isn't as good when crawling over objects.
@@I_THE_ME I am well aware of that but they are comparing it to a G wagon because it's more drawing/appealing. Carwow isn't based on the most technical analysis of cars it's more entertainment based. The casual observer will be drawn to a Suzuki facing up against a big expensive G-wagon. Than comparing it to a jeep Renegade or car within a similar class.

In the real world the Jimny would have won as the AMG driver would not want the alloys or paintwork damaged. I've had people refuse to even go up a kerb in case their off road alloys got damaged. So whats the point of an off road vehicle then?

@@derbigpr500 You would arrive home in the jimny and all you would have to do is some cleaning while the G would have to go to the shop to get fixed. Even in the older version, with a solid axle in the front, the first thing that all of them did was rip the bumpers off.
A jimny/samurai will go to places a stock G will only dream of going. The tire to weight and power to weight ration on the suzukis is what makes them soo great. Putting 30s on a jimny is like putting 35s on a G or Wrangler.
I do off-road racing every other weekend. I know what i'm talking about.
The new w463 was doomed from the start, IFS is for road vehicles, not for real offroaders.
If you want a good G for off-roading, get a w460 or an older diesel w461, those are the good ones.
Saying that the new G is the best off-roader because of how good the older ones are is like saying that the new lancer SUV is a rally legend because of the older lancer evolution. It's heavy, overpriced, expensive and hard to repair, bulky and weak when compared to the old one. Made for posers and mall crawlers.

Chieng but are some smaller V6 engines that can be light as well (probably even lighter than a 2L turbo) since some V6 have many components & parts made from aluminum.. not from forged steel..

@@imnotusingmyrealname4566 I personally like the styling on the exterior of the Jimny more compared to the G-Wagon as well. The G-Wagon just feels so heavily piggy backed off of the Land Rover Defender where as the Jimny has its own character. Wouldn't mind chucking some A/T tyres on the Jimny and giving it a bit of a lift for some extra ground clearance but damn can that thing can do some shit for what it costs.

The jimny is 10 times cheaper and smaller, automatically makes it better, no one will off-road with a G wagon anyways.
That's exactly the problem with these things nowadays, it doesn't matter how good the G wagon, Range Rover etc are at offroading when they cost too much to risk it.
The Jimny's cheap and good at its job, like an offroad Miata.
Maybe not in the west. Come to Russia or Mongolia and you will see some real off roading G Wagon’s. I’m not talking about day trip, proper 7-10 days 3000-4000km on varied road (no road).

I literally took a 2017 G-Wagon G63 off-road. And went for hunting with it in the forest, and you are saying that a G-Wagon don't go off-road. I was a bit surprised with its off-road capabilities, I mean the 4WD, three diff locks and the strong suspension really helped it go off-road, whereas a Jimny gets toppled easily even on deep ditch just like a Jeep Wrangler, or worser than a Jeep. So you need to have some off-road skills, it's not that easy.
That Jimny is seriously impressive. This review has tempted me to purchase one, thank you Mat! haha

With Mercedes you pay for the name more than anything else. With Suzuki you pay a fair price and get a wonderful off roader that can legit compete with anything. And will do 100,000 miles and probably still be on the original clutch.
