I was trying every way in the world to get him out of jail but they would NOT give him a bond. He had never been arrested before, didn't have any previous charges or anything & they knew it was only bc he was mentally ill & not properly medicated but they wouldn't give him a bond. He's not fine! He's in the throws of psychosis & this is not fair!" Ugh. Yeah there is most definitely room for improvement with the jail/prison system. I felt so helpless, I couldn't do anything to help my dad & he is not a criminal. He's the most kind and generous person I've ever known. He took me to my Dr appt one day & offered to buy everyone in the waiting room something to drink from the pop machine. He's always like this, always offering to buy food, drinks or whatever for random strangers just bc he's genuinely a good hearted person. He just gets a little wild without his meds, that's all
I am so sorry that your dad had to go through that. I have seen patients in the middle of full blown psychosis during placement rounds. It’s exceptionally dangerous position to put your dad in. Once his meds have been adjusted accordingly sending him to prison could have sent him into a deep depression. I hope your dad is doing well and on a regime that works for him. Hope you had a merry Christmas. 🙏
I’m so sorry your whole family had to endure this. There needs to be more training put in place to deal with EDPs. Just like addicts are criminalized for being addicts, EDPs are criminalized for being mentally ill. Jails/prisons have become the psychiatric facilities of today. It’s so sad.

Yup we do remember the good c.o's. There was this lady who used to take showers away from us for 3 days and call us fat bs when she was mad. I don't know what happened but last time I went in she was so kind and even started a class completely on her own accord that was her ideas on how we can stay out of prison and basic life skills. I'll never know why she had that change?
@@alexisandbillclerico15 not likely. Most higher ups encourage the poor treatment just as this former CO talked about in this video. But I'm sure an inmate altercation happened with her or a family member of hers got incarnated.
Wonder if she had an experience where someone was calling her a fat ass and realized it felt like shit? Or she wanted to be a hard ass to impress her higher ups, realizing it was useless and she didn't want to be that way? Maybe she got help to cope with the same trauma inmate experience and learned to stop treating people like shit? People CAN change! Look at Jessica! Look at Reece! Look at her friends Jen and Jarrod! And so many more! Who knows what caused the change, I'm just glad she did change and turned things around to try to help inmates! Isn't it interesting how the COs become or are as bad as the inmates they think are so horrible?
She just LOOKS like a cop... a nice one though and it’s so awesome that she says her favorite part of the job was that she made a difference Merry Christmas Jess, Reece & kids! 🎄

@@Andshewasafairy awww honey I’m sorry to hear that. I hope he find a better way to cope and battle his demons. While it can be rewarding, it certainly has its downfalls.
Inmates do to I have Ptsd from all my years in prison. I did almost half my life 19 years. Went in for a mistake at 18 . I got out to a world I never understood. Cell phones never seen them till I got out computers . I never had a bank card till I got out . It was a shock . I ended up turning to drugs to deal with it. Than I meet a wonderful woman, and she really saved my life see seen something In me I never saw. I owe so much to her and I treat her like a princess.
Officer Kim: "Treat them with kindness!" *My brain, deeply ingrained by 8 months of binging Christina Randall's (and Jess's!) channels, like full time:* _"Please be kind to everybody, every where, in your everyday life, in the grocery store and _*_especially_*_ in the comment section down below!!!"_
As a former CO I had a saying. Respect gets respect. Respect me and I will respect you (to the inmate). More often then not it worked. It also made the housing unit run far better then issuing write ups for stupid shit.
She reminds me a lot of myself! I worked as a healthcare assistant in a prison over here in the UK and was so like this. All I wanted to do was help people and I got mocked for it by colleagues and then accused of having ‘inappropriate relations’ with prisoners because I tried to help someone who has just had a terminal cancer diagnosis! Safe to say, I left after that. I loved helping people but could not deal with the lack of support from the other members of staff and the accusations I got. If you would ever like to do a video comparing US to UK prisons or what it was like in the healthcare department, I would love that 😁 keep doing you Jess, you’re amazing 💕💕
@@sophiebach2834 I’ve been thinking about doing a UA-cam channel for a while filled with all the crazy shit I witnessed in there and what I was put through!
God bless the good CO’s! We are all one bad decision away from being locked up, as a recovering addict myself in particular, and we need more of the good guys and gals!
One thing about a woman working in a male prison, we always smell good, look good, are losing weight....I was told the same thing, hey CO, you smell good, what perfume do you have on? Same answer, soap and water!!
As a former CO I always gave prisoners 2 extra minutes to say their good byes on the phone when it was time to lock down rather then telling to hang it up.
@@briannaarteaga19 that is good and bad I guess. If the first person you call doesn't answer you know have lost time calling. On the plus side from my POV is it makes getting the phone calls done faster. Still simple things like allowing a guy to be on the phone until 12:50 when lock down was at 12:45 so he could finish a call went a long way towards keeping peace in the housing unit.
As a person who has only visited someone in prison there were some COs I liked and respected and others I truly couldnt stand. They treated the visitors like they were inmates and just talked down to them. So yeah there are good COs and bad. Thank you "Kim" for doing a very hard and emotionally draining job.
Thank you to the both of you for these videos exposing the truths behind the wall ♥️ I’m a proud woman and mother in recovery from addiction and alcoholism, I’ve been in state prison, I’ve done 18 months in a strict program for women, and today I’m working everyday to remain in recovery and be the best momma and fulfill my highest potential as a woman, and watching your videos (and Christina Randall 😌) have been helping me so dang much. So I love y’all, and I’m grateful for y’all speaking up for those of us who may not be able to.
I still remember one particular officer who treated me like a human...i will never forget that man :( I actually wound up in treatment after prison with 2 different men who were Co's when I was there (luckily they were two who treated you well- one is suing the prison now for being terminated)
I was a DO and I was also bullied by my co workers for advocating for the detainees as well. I'm glad I'm not the only one. They made me feel like a POS but I stand by treating everyone with basic human respect and kindness. My experience is so close to hers it's insane, as a female in a male unit.
Amazing Collab, Jess!! she’s literally a doll! I love her and her true heartfelt compassion for inmates. Merry Christmas to you Reece and the girls!! 🎄 Thanks for taking time out of your Christmas and posting today!!
OMG! Mad respect for her! I work in elder care, and that system is also very dysfunctional and barely regulated. What little regulation there is is largely ignored, and the higher ups hide behind HIPPA to cover up the offending staff members. That leaves the burden on those of us who are good and actually care for elders, with little recourse available to protect those in our care. But, I always remind the people I am training and even my coworkers that when you step into an assisted living facility, you are in THEIR home. This is not your life it isnt your 24/7 reality, and you get to go home at night. So treat it as they would so they can be comfortable in their homes.
God, this feels like when I worked in nursing. For 23 years. I had to quit because it all just got to me and knowing I could be them some day. I loved talking to the vets and just the elderly and it was to be treated like an assembly line.
This made me cry hearing the story about the man with ‘mental health’ that killed his Mum. It’s wrong people that suffer from mental health get punished. My eldest son was diagnosed with schizophrenia he’s now 20. He was always a quite, shy, placid and an extremely well mannered likeable lad. Life through so much trauma at him, more than anyone is their whole life should have to endure. Bullying was\still one of them trauma’s. when he’s having his episodes he can be unpredictable and aggressive. Thankfully he doesn’t go out as he fears going out due to being attacked, robbed and bullied. I’d hate to think if he was to have an episode outside or if he done something during one of his ‘episodes’ and being treated like a criminal. In this day and age surely there should be more awareness of ‘mental health’! 😢
Jess this is why you're one of my favorites. You took something giggle worthy "poo people" and said...but was he okay mentally? And GENUINELY CARED !!! ♥️♥️♥️
Yay what an awesome Christmas gift, a part 2 with Officer Kim! I definitely asked via Instagram whether you stuck up for any mistreatment by officers to inmates-I can’t believe you got subjected for mistreatment just for doing the right thing. The system is absolutely disgusting. Thanks for trying to be a positive light- we need more people like you (officer Kim) and Jess advocating for prison and officer reform. Treat others the way you want to be treated, PERIOD. Much love, and Merry Christmas y’all! 💕🎄
Hey ladies! CO, it's really nice to know that you chose to stay true to yourself and your beliefs and treated everyone in there with dignity and respect. Ppl in jail/prisons are just a number to the justice system and prison system. That act of kindness goes a long way and could ultimately save someone's life, so thank you. Jess...Girl well I heard you mention that you carry Narcan with you in case someone else needs it, I have to admit I smiled a lil inside lol. Believe it or not, I've gotten a lot of back lash for trying to do those what seems to be "small" things that ultimately end up having a huge impact on someone else's life. I'm in from Central Florida, Orlando/Daytona Beach. The police around here will actually charge us and arrest us for having Narcan. We are just a number in the system. The courts, the prisons, and the police, all could care less about anyone but themselves. It's easier for them if we take ourselves out. We have a higher rate of overdoses than ANYTHING else. It's horrible to see. I try to tell ppl as much as I can, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE TO RETIRE OR VACATION. FLORIDA IS HELL. It don't matter your age or race or sex or status, you will get wrapped up in this justice system and be forever in the grasp of their hands. Go to Florida on vacation, leave on probation, come back for violation 💯💯✌️
It actually just warms my heart that you guys are having this conversation and you seem to have so many emotions about prison and the state of prisons when to be honest both of you have left. Of course in different ways but you could choose to completely put prison behind you and never look back. But what is so incredible is that you do look back and see all those people that you want to help forward. Prison does not just affect the prisoners for every prisoner there is a complete family that is affected. My daughter went through so much anxiety and depression growing up just behind her father being in prison. So many times I couldn't even help her like the time she would leave school because she was crying so hard and the counselors don't know what to do...
Merry Christmas Jess and KP!! Thank you for another wonderful video! It says a lot that KP knew that the inmates would protect her if needed because of the way she treated them!
It absolutely makes me sick that there are cho mo's chilling in a cell playing X-Boxs while there are addicts who are in solitary being denied almost all basic human rights because they have a mental illness. That's absolutely sick. I also believe there needs to be a real legitimate mental evaluation done on people applying for a CO position and if they have an authoratative personality or any type of personality disorder they are not fit for that job. Period. Some people cannot handle even the smallest position of power including managing a fast food restaurant...let alone being responsible for legally defenseless people and having all of the power over human lives. Jobs in law enforcement, including corrections, attract those people of course and they need to be stopped at the gate and immediately turned away. Hiring a CO who clearly craves the power over defenseless people but doesn't care at all for the responsibility of that would be like hiring someone who cannot read to teach as a professor. They are not fit for the job. And the decent COs probably complain about being lumped in with the horrible COs, just like decent cops do, but, just like cops, when a horrible CO does something horrible, the decent guys cover for them and do their best to sweep those inhumane actions under the rug so the bad guy faces no consequences and they keep their jobs. If the decent people would stop covering up for them and if they helped get these horrible people out of the position they clearly can't handle.... they wouldn't be lumped in with them. They are complicit in denying people basic human rights at that point making them no better than the bad COs. I am happy to see a former CO brave enough to come out and tell the truth about what goes on in prison. Our entire justice system is absolutely broken. We are the richest country in the world yet our prison cells look like the prison cells in Mexico. We sink billions of dollars into these places so we can, most of the time, punish people who should be in a rehab or mental health facility. We have the money to do better. We choose not to. Meanwhile the higher ups pocket every dime they can while refusing to install air conditioning in prisons that can reach 120 degrees in the summer and when people die there's no justice for that choice to take lives when it comes to those higher ups. I honestly hope more people will see videos like this and the videos on prison TikTok so maybe the people who have no experience with anyone who has gone to prison will see the conditions and start raising hell. Because our prisons commit crimes against these prisoners every single day and NOTHING is done about it. Thank you both for the work you are doing. Much love to both of you. ❤️
thank you for being here! i 100% agree that there needs to be lenghty mental AND physical evaluations to being a CO. thankfully some states have that, ours sadly does not.
@@brainfluidZ yes they do, I know for a fact that at least in a facility in Ohio they got their own little block, each got their own cells, and a freaking Wii since "they couldn't go to rec". This was like 10 years ago, I have no idea about now. I'm not part of that world anymore.
You can be a got CO and have a personalitydisorder, even if you have this impulses. if you know how to handle your disorder, then it doesn't make them worse for such a job.
I love these videos! I love all your videos, but I love Officer Kim. I was a prison Medic and SO many of her stories resonate and match so many of mine.
I like her. She realized how she went in acting like a badass wasn’t the right maneuver . Nice we all in this spinning world together . A wise man once told me a cop/correction officer/judge will do whatever they feel like doing…
I want to thank you for your time being a CO. It is nice to hear the perspective of a CO. I am a prison wife and a lot of times hear only bad things about COs and encounter. But you can tell those that are using their uniform as some type of power trip in those that are literally just doing their job. Because they have authority over another human's life does not mean they should abuse that authority but it happens all the time. I have even been mistreated coming in for visitations and treated like I was a criminal when I don't even have a record and my husband really shouldn't even be in prison, he was wrongfully convicted. But to a lot of CEOs I was just trash visiting other trash. But every now and then there was the few that actually seen you as a human as a mother just bringing their child to see their father. It's kind of ironic that you left, the good ones always leave and it seems like that's what the system wants...
Always try and find out the whole story. I used to be a CO and I remember having to break bars of soap in half. I had 40 inmates that needed a shower but only 20 bars of soap. I had a choice give 20 inmates a full bar of soap and tell the other 20 inmates sorry or give each inmate half a bar.
You never know when you might end up in prison. Anyone can end up there. Crazy bizarre things can happen. They do everyday. You could be at the wrong place at the wrong time. ANYTIME! You would wanna be treated with respect. Thanks for the interview officer (I mean Ex-officer) Kim and thank you Jess for more interesting content!
I ran into a childhood friend in prison. I did everything with him. We ate together and I always had his back. But when I got home I found out he was in jail for child molestation. I was so mad. I had no idea .
This interview made me realise just how true the Stanford prison experiment is. Who the f*ck p*sses in peoples coffee?! That person wouldn’t dream of doing that if they didn’t have a uniform on which let them have authority over people!
When I worked in fast food restaurants, the thought never crossed my mind to do something gross to someone's food, even when I had to serve people I absolutely hated...bc I believe in "what goes around comes around" you know. I wouldn't want that done to me so I can't do it to someone else no matter what. I mean, I couldn't do it anyway. Even if I didn't believe in karma, I couldn't do it bc it's just wrong and gross. So, I can't understand why anyone would do it no matter what title or position they have. I just can't understand it. It's a very fkd up thing to do
The Standard prison experiment has been debunked many many times and is widely considered non-representational. The guards very basically instructed how to act. Please read about it.
Please check knowing better's video on the stanford prison experiment. The job (circumstance) does not make a person terrible. They either are terrible when they start (and the power is the reason they took the job) or they are coached to be terrible (which is more in accordance of the milgrimm experiment proving that people usually obey authority even if it goes against their own moral judgement)
I hateeee that people who go to jail because of drugs might get Life sentences but people who do HORRIBLE things to children get 5-10 years and x boxes and kittens makes me sick
merry christmas to you and your fam!! i’ve been watching you for so long and you never fail to make me feel relaxed and entertained. your story is so incredibly inspiring and seeing you flourish is such a beautiful thing. thank you for being you :)
The comment about being kind saving your life has been true more then once during prison riots as well. Guards have been protected by inmates in situations where inmates had control over areas of a prison.

Merry Christmas Jess! Thanks for this interview. Really insightful about how hard it really is to be inside the walls of a prison regardless of where you may be.
I live not to far from this prison and have been in that area before. It was so bazaar to see it and having the realization that it was a prison and that there is a neighborhood so close to it.
Another great video and I'm so happy to see you doing so well:) i think a person who wants to be CO needs to be very psychologically strong but also not judgemental on their own. Like you had that video that it was "good" that somebody beat up a child sex offender (and of course I agree that it is a terrible crime ) but somebody could have a family member or a close friend that died because of drugs and hate drugs dealers and be super mean to them in prison, if that person happen to be a CO. I think it is a very difficult job and it is extremly difficult to stay "human" and keep a good balance. Wish you both all the best!💜

My guess is she got her ass handed to her 🤷🏻♀️
She probably got reprimanded for what she was doing and was required to do something positive for the inmates. That's my guess

As a person who has only visited someone in prison there were some COs I liked and respected and others I truly couldnt stand. I still remember one particular officer who treated me like a human...i will never forget that man :( I actually wound up in treatment after prison with 2 different men who were Co's when I was there (luckily they were two who treated you well- one is suing the prison now for being terminated)
As a civilian, we’re damned if we do, damned if we don’t too...
I was a DO and I was also bullied by my co workers for advocating for the detainees as well. I'm glad I'm not the only one. They made me feel like a POS but I stand by treating everyone with basic human respect and kindness. My experience is so close to hers it's insane, as a female in a male unit.

Thanks for uploading. Alone on Christmas and this helps it feel more like a normal day. Love you girl.
I adore KP so much. I know for certain she changed a few lives. She is a gorgeous human being.
This Comment 😭😭😭.
Xbox where? What facility? You don’t get no goddamn consoles in ANY facility.

The job (circumstance) does not make a person terrible. They either are terrible when they start (and the power is the reason they took the job) or they are coached to be terrible (which is more in accordance of the milgrimm experiment proving that people usually obey authority even if it goes against their own moral judgement)
