    The R6 Mark II is barely two years old as of last month. They need to release the R7 Mark II before the R6 III. The R7 is the older model and Canon already has a ton of FF cameras....

    • @OrdinaryFilmmaker
      @OrdinaryFilmmaker  3 дні тому +2

      Agreed. There is a lot of room for improvement in the R7 II over the R7 than there is an opportunity to improve the R6 II with the R6 III.

      @@OrdinaryFilmmaker I really like my R7. The only changes I would really make are a higher quality EVF and full 4K 60 with no crop or pixel binning. my biggest issue with it really is the sensor having too much resolution. It out resolves pretty much any lens aside from the high-end L lenses. It hates my Sigma crop lenses haha. I would actually prefer to see Canon put out some higher end crop sensor lenses, then new crop bodies.

      In my opinion the reason they are pushing for the R6iii as soon as possible is because the R6 type camera is Canon's biggest seller for Pros but the R6ii has high percentage of defective issues, so they need to address that in the R6iii in order to get back on track.

    The R6II was released in Nov 2022, so a refresh rate of 2.5 years is actually okay with me, I think 2 years is a bit too aggressive

    I don't think R6mkiii is needed yet. Faster sensor and better precap file implementation are great and all, but the sensor is already good, and the mark 2 already includes raw precapture. Everything but buffer size is already as good as the Z6iii. Dynamic range already better.

      Canon shooter here, ..and as I have money in glass, I stick to Canon, just recently got the R5 ii… if I started now, I‘d be considering Nikon. Canon urgently needs to match the new lens lineup Nikon has, especially in the high end long lens zoom range and built in and tailored converters… they‘ve lost their advantage there I think… resting on laurels…

    Hi Simon, given the R6ii is still selling well, partly thanks to both big brothers grabbing attention for Canon, I understand they want to first ensure sufficient supply for the R5ii and R1, as well as the 70-200 Z glass etc ..
    Since some weeks, the R5ii is in stock at most European retailers. So its launch delay in order to have significant stock at launch did seem to pay off. As far as I recall, the original R5 was hard to get for over a year after launch.

      The problem is that the R6ii is having alot of defective problems in manufacturing, the rate of defects is too high and that's why they want to release the r6iii as soon as possible, in order to avoid loosing costumers to Sony and Nikon.

    • @thelensteller
      @thelensteller 3 дні тому

      @@WernerBirdNature I have bought 3 consecutive R6ii and had to send them back for defective issues. Went back to the r6. While this can happen with some cameras the biggest problem is that Canon doesn't seem to be able to repair them. I am in a group with 600 other photographers in my country. And we did a study and 80% of those who own an r6ii have defective issues. Most of the issues are related to focus problems, shutter button problems, freezing, or a combination of those. Some of the photographers don't care that much and still use the camera, but for me as wedding photographer a camera that can freeze in the most important moment is just unusable to me. I am also in a r6ii group on facebook, and alot of photographer report the same issues... so I'm guessing 2 big problems: the 1st is that the defective percentage of cameras is unusually high, and the second one is that Canon doesn't know how to repair them. And that's why I believe they will release the r6iii as soon as possible. I would bet announcement on first trimester and shipping in the second... let's see.

    I really do want to see what the R6iii beings, to guage what the R7ii could be. I'm torn between either. Would the R7ii be a major leap over my current R7, or do I jump onto full frame (between the R6iii or R6ii).
    Yeah, I'm off this week for the exception of Friday. As I cook for a private school, I get the same time off as them minus some Fridays after an extended time off to get stock in. I took time off from my part-time as well, to take the family for a little staycation getaway to Kitchener on Boxing Day. I stupidly also tried to do some Boxing Day shopping at the Toronto Premium Outlet in Halton Hill (where the OPP had to shutdown the 401 off ramp). Yeah, that was a messy endeavor.

      I shoot a lot of sports, and currently have the R6 and R6 MK II. I am also curious to see what the R7 MK II looks like, as I may sell the R6 classic and buy the R7 MK II if it has a stacked sensor and 4K120

    • @HeadlessChickenTO
      @HeadlessChickenTO 3 дні тому +1

      @cjm8160
      I do the occasional wildlife and birds in flight. I almost always shoot mechanical due to my R7s bad rolling shutter in mechanical. I only use electronic if I want precapture, so a faster stacked sensor would be great. But the limitations of an APS-C for my all-around use as a family man, I'm thinking the R6 series would fit the bill better. It's just that the R7 fit my budget better at the time. No regrets though, it still produces fantastic results. But if the price gap between the R6iii and R7ii is still huge, i can settle with the R6ii.

    Canon's never-ending problems with shipping product is getting harder to watch, as is their willingness to let others control the rumor cycle. But pretty much all the things I would like to see in a stills camera are things they probably can't put into an R6iii without alienating R1 and R5ii owners:
    Any and all (real) improvements in dynamic range important to me.
    A bigger buffer and Gen 4 CFExpress slot(s).
    Something in the neighborhood of 60mp, without adding to rolling shutter distortion.
    Improvement in low-light autofocus capability.
    If it's going to have precapture, give it the ability to select the number of images.
    Improved thermal handling without an add-on cooling grip.
    Obviously a full size HDMI port is a must, but other models have that now.
    That's not too much to ask, is it? They could leak rumors now, and have it ready to ship a few dozen units in late 2026. Perfect!

    • @michaelbell75
      @michaelbell75 3 дні тому

      They have more problems with shipping because they are the only manufacturer still producing everything in Japan, even the dirt cheap R100 is made in Japan. Whereas everyone else has cheaped out and produce most their cameras in China, Thailand, Malaysia etc....That is one reason I keep going back to Canon and currently own an R7. Everything is quality made from Japan, not junk from China.

    • @scotthime6928
      @scotthime6928 3 дні тому +1

      @@michaelbell75 That's a good point. I didn't know that both Nikon and Sony have sent all their production elsewhere. That makes a difference. I still have a problem with the way they manage their communications, and if they have that much problem producing domestically they might need to consider narrowing their product line, rather than expanding in some puzzling ways. It's actually their messaging that I have the biggest problem with.
      Still, I appreciate your reply. I do value Japanese quality.

    Rumors and announcements seem to be the way Canon operates. It is increasingly hard for any camera company to make significant improvements. Perhaps discussions about where Canon could make improvements might be in order.

    • @OrdinaryFilmmaker
      @OrdinaryFilmmaker  3 дні тому

      My focus in 2024 was to talk about how the rumoured specs impacted the value received. I found for video shooters, the updates were significant: Night and day huge changes. For photography needs, the update to the autofocus in sports, or crowded scenes is a huge update. I'm waiting for some validated specs before I do the same with the R63. I'm not confident in what we are hearing.

Chasing newer modells, chasing specs, capabilities, prices, announcements, shipping dates... etc. i just got today a brand new R7, next to my R6 and my perfect 5D MkIV and I'm 125% sure I'm will be more than good for the next couple of upcoming years. All three cameras are more capable than I am, my lenses are still EF glasses, the 100-400 MkII is fabolous! My EF500 F4 (first series) blows me away every time when I use it, very excited what the R7 could perform with it... I'm permanently watching, reading news about the upcoming cameras and lenses but they can't offer anything what could improve my work, just another huge amount of money "goes down in the river" to feed my ego. I'm happy for all of you, if you can replace your gear every 2-3 years but I believe I'm done with buying, at least for the next 4-6 years, doesnt matter what Canon brings out.

    IF the Canon R6 III has the updated tilt shift flip out screen along with the same Updated AF, Pre Capture and Recording Tally lights I believe that will be enough for me to sell my R5 II's. No need for the updated card slots because speed is slowed down to the SD slot anyways. I won't wait another 4 years for a potential Canon R5 III.
    - The Eye control is cool but not essential. I'd be happy going back to an older R5 EVF.
    - The Top LCD , I can't remember the last time I've ever used it.
    - 8K is nice. but don't want the extra storage space. I'm happy with 4k and 6k modes.

A good friend has been shooting canon for decades. He can't remember one -- but says it probably happened once upon a time. Why are there ANY expectations that CP+ is a "thing" for Canon? There is a reason why unfounded reports are called rumors. Because there is no solid evidence to support the claim. That is way it’s humorous when talking heads are angry at camera companies because their schedule doesn’t correlate to the fantasies of on line predictions. You will know it when the companies tell you a release date. You will know the specs when they tell you. So save the hyperbole until the cameras are released and in use before you trash them.

    Seems the industry shift towards AI this and that is on high octane. And the only way to compete, is to sell big on AI. Not that there was no AI before, but now with greater emphasis and possibilities. Sony has a dedicated AI processor. Canon now has the Digic Accelerator. They will likely refresh their line to not only stay in competitive, but also to bring in the return on investment on the new processors. R1 and R5M2 are lower volume products, fulfillable with the initial ramp of the silicon. They need to ramp the volume and they will count more on R6 segment of customers who are willing to pay more for a higher end consumer camera than the lower end product segment that are more price sensitive and have lesser need for those AI-feature packed products. Looking forward to the R6M3.
