    I was actually stuck in Quasi recovery for awhile, not because of body changes or self esteem issues (I've always been relatively body neutral) but because I was in such a rush to get back to my sport. I love it, it's my passion, and I felt anytime off was time wasted and time others would be using to get better than me. A big key for me was realizing my only option is to do it right. That taking breaks and training smarter wasn't a sighln of weakness but something that would fuel me to getting to the top just as much as hard work. 🙂

    I haven’t heard this feeling described so accurately. Quasi recovery is so mentally damaging; you’re constantly swaying in between the balance. Women have it so rough, even in sport you are not exempt for judgement.

    I have watched a lot of your videos after coming across them recently and first I want to thank you as I feel like your content about HA is the most informative and emotionally authentic there is. I have just begun recovery but definitely identify mostly with the last example, as I am still susceptible to counting my calorie intake in fear of gaining any more weight than what is necessary, which I know stems from a deeper issue. I lost my periods before I was even counting, and even though I am trying to use counting to increase my intake I know that I am overthinking the amount and the number of weeks, just like you described. It is so true that we need to tackle the harmful motivations and mental restrictions we have before reaching a true state of recovery, and although I haven't been able to stop monitoring my calories yet, your videos really help in giving myself the reality check I need from time to time to keep pushing so thank you

    I can relate to so much of this although I'm a recovering opiate addict, but it is a bit like an endurance sport, except you eat virtually nothing and spend your days walking miles and miles around a city. I just never got my period back and it's been years now, I feel chronically exhausted almost all of the time, except for when I'm running on cortisol (I thought it was adrenaline) and then I feel great, until I crash. I have been skinny all my life and I never learnt to eat when i was hungry. I came across your videos by chance and it was like a lightbulb going on, I've actually ate a lot more the last couple days and I feel definitely a bit better already. I think that on top of my addiction which numbs you, I also numbed myself by not eating. But since eating more I feel very emotional! Thanks for your videos, they are helping me so much.

      I am so glad that this is helpful for you! I am NOT surprised to hear you say how similar your experience is! And it is definitely true that when we nourish our bodies we begin to experience all kinds of emotions. This is a good sign and the opposite of numbing out with bad habits. It might feel uncomfortable at first, but actually FEELING our feelings is so important. Unfortunately, we've all been taught that feelings should be avoided. Make no mistake, feeling the full range of emotions is part of the human experience and a true gift. There will be dark moments, but there will also be the brightest bright moments too. So happy you re here!

      You're welcome! I don't see myself doing a whole video on overshoot, but here's the short version: You'll likely overshoot. People should not expect get their period back at the weight they were when they lost it in the first place. And no, the extra weight is not permanent. That's kind of all I can say about it!! Email me if you have more questions :)

    Hi Jill, thank you so so much for making these videos. I relate to them and they help me greatly by giving me the push I need to continue my recovery. I've been in recovery for about 3 weeks and I gained a lot of weight and I feel so worried that I'm gaining it too fast. I've been giving in to my hunger and eating 2500cal a day even though I'm only less than 5ft tall and I can't help but worry about how my peers are going to notice the difference and judge me. I'm not sure if you've covered the topic of "skinny/pretty privilege" before but I'm worried that my appearance will become ugly once I gain all the weight I need to get my period back. Maybe not uGLY ugly but...less attractive than when I was skinny. It really affects my self esteem and I spend the whole day worrying about my appearance sometimes. How do I stop putting value in my appearance when humans are just wired to subconsciously treat skinny/attractive people better than fat people? They get the benefit of the doubt, they get more trust, more opportunities and more attention. It's such a terrible thing but people act this way subconsciously without even realizing it and knowing that this privilege exists makes it so hard for me mentally to want to recover because I'm scared that I'll look uglier with extra weight.

      Hi Celia, I do have videos on my channel about diet culture and thin privilege and I encourage you to check them out. However, I will say quickly that "thin" does NOT equal good, smart, trustworthy, valuable, etc. These are cultural constructs based in misinformation, bias, stigma, and fear, fear, fear. The best and most valuable things about you have ZERO to do with your body shape and body size. In fact, the best things about you have nothing to do with any aspect of your physical appearance. Think about the people you love in your life. I am quite sure that you do not love them for their clothing size, hair color, or how "pretty" you think they are. All of these aesthetic considerations are nonsense, just distractions from the truth which is that you are an excellent person who is worthy of everything she dreams. It is YOU who has to believe that...not other people. Sending love :)

      @@jillcolangelopsych Thank you so much, Jill. I will definitely check out those videos! And yes I do agree with what you said. I think intrinsic self love and affirmation is the best and truest way to overcome this need for external validation...I will continue working on my recovery :)

    Thank you so much for this video. I am definitely in that last person group (girl I did not expect you to say that whole feeling like you've cheated the system by losing the overshoot!! Totally me up until a few months ago!) and also struggling with cognitive dietary restraint. Actually I had a feeling that that was probably what was causing (at least in part) my irregular periods and mood swings, and asked in one of your videos a few weeks back. I don't know if you saw that comment but thanks for answering my question anyway! C:

    I would really love to hear about irregular periods and intermestrual/luteal phase bleeding. I used to have full amenorrhea, but now my cycle is just all over the place, with two to seven days of spotting in the middle of the cycle. I know the underlying problem is the same. I still do intermittent fasting, which explains alot. But my doctor told me that I should just start treatment for infertility. My dream is to conceive naturally, as I know I could, if I took full responsibility and went all in. I already have one beautiful and amazing ivf child. Thanks for being there, Jill

    • @jillcolangelopsych
      @jillcolangelopsych  3 роки тому +1

      Ahh that intermittent fasting...a real devil. Unfortunately, IF is not compatible with having a regular cycle. Ask yourself what your reasons are for continuing with IF. And then decide if any of those are good enough to justify infertility treatments. Honestly, you owe it to yourself to give up the IF, eat regularly and without restriction, get your brain out of thinking you are in danger of starvation, THEN make a decision. Sending love to you!

    Maybe it's not as easy to answer in a general sense, but do you know why bloating is common for people who have cognitive dietary restraint? Is that related to high stress? Thanks a lot :)

    • @jillcolangelopsych
      @jillcolangelopsych  2 роки тому

      High stress for sure and it's possible that people who experience cognitive dietary restraint are restricting as well, adding to stress and poor gut health.
