Hello all. Glad you're all enjoying the video! I've just brought out a new book called "Think You Can't Sing? Think Again!". It's got loads of online videos to help you learn. Loads of you will have spent your lives thinking that you can't sing, but I'm here to tell you that you can learn. Have a look at thinkyoucantsing.com and find out what I'm talking about.😃
My summers in high school were spent working at a zoo. My last summer there, 1978, our only African lion and the only African lion I have ever known, Leo, passed away at the ripe old age of 28. Basically he was an overgrown and extremely playful kitten and my friend. He was fond of wandering around the zoo after hours rubbing up against the employees and chasing butterflies. After a necropsy we held a memorial service where we placed his body on a bamboo pyre and we all said words, 42 employees and about a hundred regular zoo members. Then we lit the pyre and sang this song, nearly 150 of us as the forty foot flames crackled and licked the blackened night sky our voices reverberating against the forty foot high granite face of the main building. To this day I still miss his thunderous roar and the lick of his tongue on the back of my hand and the expression on his face when he saw his friends first thing in the morning. Lala rafiki yangu!
This is absolutely beautiful thank you so much what a fantastic idea & effort by everyone involved. I’m watching from afar Bottom of the South Island New Zealand 😊
That ladies and gentlemen is how to communicate. Effortless, no shouting or cojoling, marvelous audience participation. Very very impressive, loved every minute. Bravo that man !
This brings a great memory from my youth. I went to a punk rock gig in the late 80's where Black Flag, Circle Jerks and Dead Kennedy's played that night. After an insane evening we all piled into a VW van to head home. While driving home fully exhausted this song came on the radio. Literally everyone sat up and we all sang this song. It was awesome!
i tried to compete the baseline in the middle of the night. i think my neighbours also loved my singing...they smashed a brickstone into my window to hear it better.
Ohhhh, for the life of me! What a genius!! How he inculcated everyone? This is a Thriller. I am sure each and every member of the audience went away fulfilled for joining.
I dont mean to be so off topic but does any of you know a method to get back into an instagram account?? I stupidly lost the login password. I appreciate any assistance you can offer me!
Oh how I wish I could sing in tune! Some time ago, a choir teacher came from USA to coach our church choir and he stayed in the same house as me. "Anyone can sing" he claimed but, after a few days, he admitted defeat with me. The audience had such a great time being coached by an inspired teacher and I am envious!
Our director (the man in this video) might be able to help you with that. He has a book coming out soon entitled "Think You Can't Sing? Think Again!". There are a small number of people who do have amusia (the musical equivalent of colourblindness), but it's very small. Where are you based, John?
@@johnneal5616 If you subscribe to the channel, there will be information coming out about the book, hopefully in time for Christmas. We run a singing holiday in Spetses every June - that's about as near as we get to Crete...
I've been directing this song just like this (yet not in the same order) since my youth. An all-time favorite. I usually begin and end with the altos. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

I love this song so much! It was popular when I was in the fifth grade and reminds me of a sweet time in my life. I am now 64 and it brings great joy to me as does your video. Thank you so much! ❤

I didn't expect to like this much, but it really works, well done. The pity is that the original composer Solomon Linda who recorded the song in 1938 received very little for his work. It is basically acquired by big record companies who claimed it was folk music and therefore public property.

Nicely done. I believe the song writer would have thoroughly enjoyed this. I feel most sad that he could not around to have enjoyed the result of his song.
Thank you for this wonderful video! What great fun! This is one of my favorite songs and I've been enjoying it since it was first released oh so many years ago. This is one of the best versions I've seen performed!

Movies used to have audience sing along songs, just follow the bouncing ball. Then of course we had sing along with Mitch on TV. Happier days back then when Disney made funny cartoons.

Such a beautiful story! I'm sitting here crying, just so beautiful!! Thank you for sharing❤
Прекрасную историю Вы рассказали .....
The love of an animal is so pure…..
The song is called "Mbube" which tranlates to Lion from Zulu. Wimoweh is what y'all hear🎭🇿🇦
We technically sing o wimoweh
How interesting! When spoken, does it actually sound like „wimoweh“ or do we get this wrong also?
And there is no lions in the jungle, but in savanna. 😂
He's not expecting the crowd to not be compose of 50% tone deaf. Just telling them what to listen to.
And that. Is awesome.
This gentleman is a genius trainer!
Thanks Magara! Glad you enjoyed it!
what an amazing ability to involve the whole room, not just the chorus but the spectators as well excellent job.
This is fantastic how each group - soprano, altos, tenors, bass etc sang the song! Amazing! Love this song🥰
Thank you!

It's such a fantastic song! Glad it evoked great memories for you!
I seen the tokens sing it at a concert it's awesome memories hearing it
Great effort , getting all in tune
And as Pete Seeger once said, "And don't get hung up on what the person next to you is singing, or you'll sound like you're in a washing machine."
How beautiful... people coming together ❤️ creating beauty. Wow.
Very glad you enjoyed this!
I wish I was there when they get to sing along
this performance ave me tears of joy with a flash back of my childhood.
How beautiful our individual voices sound when combined in unison..Thxs.
I love how he gets the audience involved in the singing. I was even singing along with the tenor part.

African chorus music is so sublime!
involving the audience in the show is so satisfying to watch..😁😁😁

Outstanding performance and well balanced harmony vocal trained by the director of London city voice . 🎵🎤👍
That was lovely, especially as each part dropped out just leaving the bass. it's all about the bass 😂

Nowadays crowd control is all about about build ups and drops. People start to forget this kind of beautiful music that's also as beautiful
Absolutely loved this! Great job getting everyone involved. Sounded amazing also! Standing Ovation for you All! Thank you for sharing!
Amazing! Should be mandatory in every school. It show how important back vocals are,
That man made me wimoweh on command over the bloody internet.
And I'm hundreds of miles away.
Compelling isn't it! :)
Not to mention time...separated by time and space and yet brought together by the force of music and it is good
Me too,❤
Brilliant! I felt like I was back singing with a choir again, which I greatly miss.

Way fun! This is by far one of the best pieces of music ever written and it works great in this kind of choir. Thanks for sharing.
I really wanna be there when they did this not in the front row but in the last row where I can see all and sing along together
Why this brought a tear to my eyes, I don't know. But they were tears of joy.
Music is incredibly evocative and sometimes does this. It's so powerful!
Thats cool. To have the audience be part of the song.
We try to do this in every concert!
