I got one of these recently and did a big dry hop dose like you did. It clogged up the bottle where it necked down. I ended up shaking it back and forth to get the hops all mixed in. 2 days later they all settled back out in the bottle. Next time, I'm going to just shake it a bit rather than wait for them to float up, as they made a dry lock plug. Great video.
I have the Williamswarn BK25 so similar concept. I dry hop the same way but when I put the hops in I either fill to the top with warm water or flavourless warm beer into the bottle right up to the top. Hence little chance of any air getting in.
It's easy to clean, lucky my arm can fit in at least to the krausen line anyway which is where it matters. Ive just been using a soft cloth and oxyclean. Much easier than the Better bottle i normally would use.
yep, I think Sodium Percarbonate in the right strength might eat it up without too much scrubbing, I'll see how it goes. Thanks for watching mate, cheers!
Great vid Gash, thanks. It's amazing how a couple of innocent boosters will make your eyelids lazy. Job well done bloke, brew looks great. Cheers from Southern Oz.
Great full review of the fermenter gash! Hey you can fill the bottle with beer/ foam from the fermenter and that will purge the o2 out when dry hopping!
Na it's not that messy, it's the technique they promote with the Williamswarn which is pretty much the same concept. The co2 rich foam is good for pushing out the o2. Look forward to your future updates
hey gash, re the effectiveness of the dry hop. Read a comment the other day that seemed to be applicable. oils are less dense than water (and therefore beer) meaning that the oils from hops will move up throughout the beer from bottom to top during a dry hop from the bottom of the fermenter. (eg doesn't matter if the hops get full ability to move throughout the beer, as long as they have contact all is good). looks like a damn fine beer, cheers
Gash, I really enjoy the channel, I have a mason jar set up I use to collect yeast with. what I do is purge the yeast catcher then fill it with some of the beer and screw it on. Works great for me. Cheers!
KegKing recommends not going over about 30g of hops in the collection bottle. I have the same spunding valve from kegking and mine seems to be a bit problematic too, it does get the correct reading but it seems to jump around a lot after setting it to what i thought was a certain psi. I think best way is to put say 12psi into a pet bottle and then open the valve on it until it hisses then you know its set to 12 psi.
The adjuster is a bit touchy, seems if its sitting in the wrong place, it seals it, but you cant really tell until you see pressure building! I got them from cheaky peak brewery, but they look the same as the KK ones.
Hey gash! Not sold on the fermenter just yet :) principle is good though! Thanks for pioneering this. Wee idea, close the bottom valve, empty the yeast. Use your picnic tap to fill the base, attach and open the valve. Therefore you only oxidate the small volume a little and prevent the o2 lingering in the head space.
Hey mate, lucky because I'm not selling them :) That method has been suggested before, with dry hopping I reckon that once that carbonated beer hits the hops it would get messy, nucleus points and bubble explosion hahaha. I think its just as easy to chuck em in the top. I think this unit for me hits its straps with lagers and beers I probably wouldn't be dry hopping anyway, once I closed the valve and remove most of the trub and spent yeast I dont really have any reason to attach the bottle again, or if I was to do it it would be very early in the ferment with the hope the ferment will still scrub any damage done by the oxygen. I really like the idea of filling it with lager wort and that lager never seeing oxygen again till it hits a glass, whether that be serving from the unit or an enclosed transfer to a keg. Has its place, does things none of my other fermenters can. Saying all that the beer I brewed in this video turned out sensational and held flavour and aroma better than many of my other brews, maybe it was a fluke? I don't know! Cheers mate!
nice work Gash. almost sounds you're inspired by twister, tagging hop pellets. very interested to see how fermenting hotter under pressure goes. cheers
Hey, Gash, how about putting a sanitised ball bearing in hop bottle then wiggling it about to mix in the beer... They're stainless steel so should be OK. You could hold one on the the neck of the fermenter with a magnet to break it up so it falls, too... Maybe.
I like that system a lot! Very much enclosed. Hopefully the little bit of oxygen that gets in during the dry hop process gets consumed by the yeast left in suspension.
I shouldn't of put 100g in the dry hop bottle, since found out they only recommend 30g hahaha, Trub was all gone before dry hop, there was still yeast suspended but thats inevitable when you should dry hop before ferment is finished. Cheeeerrrs mate! Thanks for watching!
Do you think multiple dry hops would work better .. 30g is a bit pain full though ! Doing my first brew in a Fermentasaurus now .. the dry hop will be 100g .. Thinking I'll try 50g additions 4 days each ... any thoughts ?
If I was going to do a 100g again, I'd probably just dump it in the top, but yep you could split it, but then when changing the bottle you'd be removing most of the previous dry hop if its settled out, that isnt a problem if its been there for a few days anyway really, its job would be done. Cheers!
a stainless nut will do the job. I probably would bother retrieving it, you don't want a hoppy beer hanging around for long anyway, but I understand if you did want to do so. Big dry hops cause problems in everything, even normal fermenters. Or move it on to a keg, can all be done enclosed, one of the advantages.
Great job on the video. I ordered one of these, even though I already have an SS Chronical. I like the idea of being able to ferment under pressure, as I feel like my IPAs taste great before they hit the keg, but lose something afterwards. Two questions- 1. Did you ever try fermenting warmer under pressure? 2. What kind of tubing did you use for the carbonation cap?
I havent yet done another beer in it, but its clean and ready to go for a lager I will brew in the next few weeks! The line on my carb cap is regular 5mmID 8mmOD beer line. Cheers mate!
Its strange how 8 glasses of water a day seems impossible but 8 glasses of beer is so damn easy!!! lol, great vid Gash, so you think you are going to stay with the fermentasaurus or go back to the old fashioned way? I am thinking of picking one up to give it a try, thanks for demonstrating on how to use it, you rock!!!!!
Thanks for sharing these vids Gash, do these I guess with these fermenters you would need a counter pressure bottler set up to bottle? looks the bizzo nice looking beer made me bloody thirsty!! haha cheers Mate, Mike.
If you use them to ferment under pressure and don't release it so they carbonate then yes, you'd need some sort of bottle filler. You could let the pressure out so it degases and bottle it normally though from the bottom with the nozzle fitting, a tap and some tubing. You don't have to use the pressure kit of course, can just use an airlock then its a regular conical fermenter. Cheers!
Yep that would be the way, de-gas then bottle but so good keeping it on the Co2 a counter pressure filler would be the way, but awesome man looked good I may have to put 1 on my xmas list.... Cheers 🍻
Great vid mate. It'd be rude not to have a few under your belt on ANZAC day. I brewed that day using only Aus and NZ hops so quite fitting. It's a Red IPA and i'm excited to try it. I assume you're going to leave the beer in there instead of kegging? PS love the Utopia shirt \m/
I think I'll leave it there, I could always transfer to a keg via the beer line if I need to move it on. I love a red ipa, must do another one soon! Thanks for watching mate, Cheers \m/
Nice vid gash. I'm sold on them. Do you think it's worth attaching the racking arm to them? Also would love to see the results of brewing under pressure at higher temperatures. Thanks again.
racking arm would be handy if you wanted to bottle and where not fermenting under pressure or you did and then let it go flat after ferment, and probably for other things, first go at this and I didnt experiment much. Cheers mate!
It depends on the yeast i usually wait until the krausen has dropped off, not totally gone, but as soon as it shrinks down, this is usually around 1.015-1.018ish then I dry hop and turn the temp up a few degrees to finish off. Its usually about day 5 or 6 for a normal ale yeast @18-19c. then after the ramp of temp it'll finish off in 3 or 4 days. then cold crash for a couple of days. Ferment is done in a week, the dry then has its few days, so its about 10-12 days, not rushing at all.
it's to be expected it's Anzac day mate plus I never brew without at least a couple of beers under me belt! great vid mate and that fermenter looks like a weapon, can't wait to see the end result! what do they cost mate?

G'day, You need something to push the beer out, it would be ok at the start for a few pints but then the beer would start going flat and would have no pressure for serving. Cheers!
Again sodium percarb is the answer, a soft bottle brush or sink dish cleaner for the krausen ring, and I've also put a rag inside with water etc and pick it up and give a swirl, that helps too. I fill it just over half with the water mix, and place it upside down for a while then flip it over for a while then give it a rinse. Can be awkward doing that with the stand. Cheers!
I just dry hopped mine with 2.5 oz, and had to blast it with 20 psi like you did to get the hops in the beer. I'm starting to wonder if it would work better if I did my dry hop additions in 2 stages. Did you keg yours? Did you remove the hop sediment just once or twice?
I think for a big dry probably better just to release pressure and dump in the top?? I havent tried again, been busy but I'll be filling it again soon. This brew I didn't keg I just served from it till it was done. I reckon the hop aroma etc lasted longer and tasted fresher than usual. I only removed the hop sediment once, probably should of done it twice though but its not so important with the floating pick up tube and I didnt seem to get any grassiness. It would be great to do an enclosed transfer to a keg though. Cheers!
Hey Mate , Sorry if someone as queried you already . Did that pet bottle for dry hopping work well? I'm dry hopping mine tomo but not sure if to use the usual method or use the bottle .as in the video not much of the hop went up. Thank you for the video .
I used too much, apparently they dont recommend more than 30g, which is a little odd, my beer had plenty of aroma but hard to say what really happened, I havent tried again yet, but I will. So I'd say it depends how much you are going to use. If I was going to do a huge dry hop again I'd put it in the top. Cheers mate!
Its not a requirement but the the red valve doesnt release by itself, its the same as most pressure relief valves on the standard cornys, you'd have to do that manually, only if you ferment under pressure of course. You can use it like a standard fermenter with an airlock if you wish. Cheers mate!
Hey Gash, did you fermenter u der pressure for this brew? I couldn't see an airlock or a blow off tube for it. Did you capture any Co2 during the process or did you just let it release all Co2 during fermenter?
Yep fermented under pressure, used a spunding valve, auto release valve you can set to different pressures. No I didnt capture it but you could. Cheers!
Gash Slugg thanks. Have you tried brewing it not under pressure? I've ordered mine but don't really want to fermenter under pressure unless I brew a lager. I'd be interested to know how to take gravity/hydrometer readings when not under pressure.
I haven't not brewed under pressure sorry. you could still use the barbed fitting on the bottom or samples, once you've removed to bottle at the bottom. Cheers
not usually as I 've been dry hopping huge amounts, I've just been putting them in through the top before ferment is finished. I may try it though now its easier to flush the container with co2, Cheers!
I think you must have a c02 leak and the effects on you are noticeable, despite that it's still a good informative video. C02 poisoning has a similar effect as being pissed 😉
cheers from italy! i'm really after this unit but i've done "double dry hoppin" beer in a regular bucket just lifting the lid...how i am gonna do with this? mumble mumble....
hey matey.. first time im fermenting under pressure in the Fermentasaurus. Its been two weeks today since i pitched my yeast and there is still signs of the yeast bubbling, it is very slow though. Just not sure weather to wait until the yeast is completely standstill or not?
After two weeks if the temperature has been good it's more than likely done, take a reading if you can. Otherwise you'll also see the yeast start to drop out of suspension and the beer will start to clear at the top, usually another sign its finished. Cheers mate!
Gash Slugg yeah the head is thinning out to just a small bit in the middle. i pretty much have same set up as yours but i gave up on the sparge valve, i just let the release valve take over. i might give another day or so and see what happens. thanks for the reply buddy!
Gash Slugg i watched the video. There was move trub in the cone of the FV which fell into the bottle when you reopened the valve. You should have let at least one more bottle worth of trub and sediment collect in the bottle before attempting dry hopping through the bottom.
Might look like that but there was just a very small amount on the sides of cone where it curves into the valve, and what may look like yeast shooting down is mostly bubbles, nucleation, from the beer hitting the hops and being agitated. By the way those collection bottles don't even hold a pint, think you're thinking things are bigger than they actually are. Cheers mate!
Well done mate. I've seen plenty of your videos and I'm not sure I've ever seen you more pleased with a beer.
I got one of these recently and did a big dry hop dose like you did. It clogged up the bottle where it necked down. I ended up shaking it back and forth to get the hops all mixed in. 2 days later they all settled back out in the bottle. Great video.
Great info, thanks mate! Cheers!

These days I just throw em in the top these days mostly. Cheers mate!
Great vid Gash, I think I'm sold on this fermenter. Keep up the good work mate 👍
I havent had to clean it yet hahaha Should be ok, Cheers mate!

Rob turns me into a pirate hahaha cheers mate
really enjoy your videos,as a newbie...13 months i learn a lot from you and others of course...Cheers...that is one awesome looking beer
Thanks for watching mate, Cheers!
Gash. Great videos on the Fermentasaurous. You made me decide that is what I’m getting. I’ve been looking at conicals for a while now. Cheers.
Thanks for the great video! I'm now looking into getting this to take my beers to the next level with ease. Cheers!
Great full review of the fermenter gash! Hey you can fill the bottle with beer/ foam from the fermenter and that will purge the o2 out when dry hopping!
Not a bad idea, be messy I'd guess, the wort is quite carbonated and once it hit the pellets would it go crazy? I'll try it though! Cheers
Na it's not that messy, it's the technique they promote with the Williamswarn which is pretty much the same concept. The co2 rich foam is good for pushing out the o2. Look forward to your future updates
Yeah I was following the recommended for this, but I dont think its ideal. Thanks mate!

Your 3 videos on the Fermentasaurus was very good, as good as that beer looked.
MJ Hoss thanks for watching mate cheers!

nice work Gash. almost sounds you're inspired by twister, tagging hop pellets. very interested to see how fermenting hotter under pressure goes. cheers
Cheers Stass!
Sodastream bottles fit the bottom.
You could sit the fermenter on bricks and use a litre bottle.
Hey, Gash, how about putting a sanitised ball bearing in hop bottle then wiggling it about to mix in the beer... They're stainless steel so should be OK. You could hold one on the the neck of the fermenter with a magnet to break it up so it falls, too... Maybe.
Sorry I missed this comment, thats a very interesting idea! Cheers mate!
thanks mate just getting to it now looks great
I like that system a lot! Very much enclosed. Hopefully the little bit of oxygen that gets in during the dry hop process gets consumed by the yeast left in suspension.
Yeah I think thats the plan anyway, be great for delicate lagers like helles I reckon. Cheers Dan!
Looks great for your first attempt using the Fermentasaurus.Maybe try emptying out a bit more of the trub before dry hopping?
I shouldn't of put 100g in the dry hop bottle, since found out they only recommend 30g hahaha, Trub was all gone before dry hop, there was still yeast suspended but thats inevitable when you should dry hop before ferment is finished. Cheeeerrrs mate! Thanks for watching!

Thanks for watching!
LOL one of those bloody New England things - awesome video :D
hahaha Cheers mate
That beer looks fantastic, I could almost taste it haha. Once you've used it a few times I think it will be even better. Cheers 🍻
Thanks for watching Cheers mate!
Your manometer was broken. I hope you changed it. The Beer looks fantastic !
haha ripper vid dude, glad you enjoyed ANZAC day ;) nothing better than a few beers early morning !!!!
yeahhhh hahaha Cheers mate!
Nice work, mate.
Cheers mate!

I think it has its uses, not sure how often I'll use it, I'll see how easy it is to clean etc. Cheers mate, thanks for watching
gash is a bit pished lol two thums up.
lol just slightly hahaha Cheers!
nice video! thanks for work
I think I'm going to buy this. But I'll avoid using the sediment ball for a hops delivery..
Version 2 is due out soon!
Thanks for sharing these vids Gash, do these I guess with these fermenters you would need a counter pressure bottler set up to bottle? looks the bizzo nice looking beer made me bloody thirsty!! haha cheers Mate, Mike.

Great video! How long after the fermentation started did u add the dry hops? And what was the total fermentation before it was done?
It depends on the yeast i usually wait until the krausen has dropped off, not totally gone, but as soon as it shrinks down, this is usually around 1.015-1.018ish then I dry hop and turn the temp up a few degrees to finish off. it's to be expected it's Anzac day mate plus I never brew without at least a couple of beers under me belt! great vid mate and that fermenter looks like a weapon, can't wait to see the end result! what do they cost mate?
$130 for the base model and an extra 20 or 30 for the pressure kit. Cheers mate!
Hi ! I would like to know if I can serve beer from the Fermentasaurus with natural cabonation without buying an extra CO2 tank ?
Does the beer remain fresh for a month like a tapped keg while using a picnic faucet with this Fermenter ? Would you recommend this item for this purpose ?
G'day, You need something to push the beer out, it would be ok at the start for a few pints but then the beer would start going flat and would have no pressure for serving. Cheers!
Resches Real.... great drop of beer that.
fantastic vid
Hi gash, can you do a vid on cleaning this thing after making a brew please. Thanks mate!!
Oops sorry wrong post lol
I have done a vid for this, but havent uploaded

I only removed the hop sediment once, probably should of done it twice though but its not so important with the floating pick up tube and I didnt seem to get any grassiness. It would be great to do an enclosed transfer to a keg though. Cheers!
Hey Mate ,
Sorry if someone as queried you already . Did that pet bottle for dry hopping work well? I'm dry hopping mine tomo but not sure if to use the usual method or use the bottle .as in the video not much of the hop went up. Thank you for the video .

Gash Slugg thank you for the reply . Much appreciated .
looks like a soda stream bottle might fit except for the obvious height difference
Hey, Gash. Is having a regulator a requirement for this thing or will the red pressure relief valve release pressure on its own once it reaches max?
Its not a requirement but the the red valve doesnt release by itself, its the same as most pressure relief valves on the standard cornys, you'd have to do that manually, only if you ferment under pressure of course. You can use it like a standard fermenter with an airlock if you wish. Cheers mate!
Thanks for the reply - cheers!
Those Anzac moments haha. Crack up!
99% of that footage didnt make the cut hahaha but I had to show some of the dry hopping lol
can't wait to try mine out. I reckon I'll drop them in the top, would that be a better option?
I think it probably is.
Cheers
Is this still your same process for dry hopping in the fermentasaurus?
not usually as I 've been dry hopping huge amounts, I've just been putting them in through the top before ferment is finished. I may try it though now its easier to flush the container with co2, Cheers!
with the fermzilla
Hi Gash!
Does standard pet bottles work as collection bottles? Or is it wrong dimensions?
no wrong size thread, I'll be keeping my eyes open though for ones that will fit! Cheers
I think you must have a c02 leak and the effects on you are noticeable, despite that it's still a good informative video. C02 poisoning has a similar effect as being pissed 😉
Yep yep yep hahahaha Cheers mate!
cheers from italy! i'm really after this unit but i've done "double dry hoppin" beer in a regular bucket just lifting the lid...how i am gonna do with this? mumble mumble....

No worries mate, cheers!
haha gash mate your pissed as fuck ain't ya? Aussie Aussie Aussie oi oi oi!
Slightly tipsy hahaha
You basically just dumped a pint of trub on top of your dry hops.
G'day mate, How do you come by that conclusion? Cheers!
Cheers mate!
you are making me thirsty
I'm just about to crack my first one for Friday Night! Cheers!
HAHAHA It's a touch cloudy!!!
What a misleading video series. The fermentasaurus is such garbage and I wasted a lot of money on getting two of them.
