  • Within this video I cover the differences between the products shown, including the common design differences between the two manufacturers. This is done focussing on simply the facts and is without any opinion of my own. This video has been made based on the amount of regular questions that I get around these types of products and it is my hope that this video gives a good factual insight into what is on offer from both manufacturers to assist without any bias either way between the two.

    Here is some extra information that I have been made aware of since making this video:-
    - Keg King are going to release 60L Pet vessels in the near future
    - Some of Fermentasaurus photos used in one part of this video have turned out to be an older version and not the latest one. Please check with relevant websites to see how they look now.

    Great video again Dave.
    I have both Fermzilla and the allrounder, I use the allrounder exclusively for non dry hop brews and the combination works well for me.
    I would recomend the allrounder for anybody dipping their toe into pressure fermenting .

    Thanks for the video Dave, excellent and thorough review. I used to ferment on the fermentausaurus, loved the conical bottom although sometimes gets clogged, but a a bit of rock and roll would help unclogging so not a biggie, what I do remember as pain was the cleaning.

    Having now owned both the fermentasaurus and the fermzilla, I can tell you the lid seal design on the fermzilla is far superior that of the fermentasaurus. The gasket at the top of the fermentasaurus is a PAIN!! Thanks for the video David!! 🍻👍

      I bought the fermenter king junior over the fermzilla partly because of the large number of people whove reported the lids leaking on the fermzilla compared to the snub nose or FKJ or the new fermentasaurus. I dont know about the first generatipn fermentasaurus as you cant even buy it anymore so your comment is irrelvant for that reason alone anyway, cheers!

    I only have experience with the fermentasaurus as I have moved to stainless fermenters. The fermentasaurus is an ok fermenter, the collection bottle opening is too small and the top opening is too small as well but other than that I have not had any issues.

    Hi, David nice work on the video. I am from Australia and use the Fermentasarus with the bottle at the bottom for dry hopping the problem is with the stainless steel stand and fermenter its like 900mm in height so it won't fit in my fermenting fridge. looking at the more compact units without the dry hopping.

    • @DavidHeathHomebrew
      @DavidHeathHomebrew  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks Ricco. Yes the sizes of these are certainly an important point if you need to fridge them. Here in Norway we have the opposite temperature issue to Australia, so I am not using a fridge with these myself, just heating. I mostly use kveik also, so then temp control is not such the big issue either.

    what are your views on hop spiders for the grainfather.

    • @DavidHeathHomebrew
      @DavidHeathHomebrew  4 роки тому +1

      Sure, no problem. Personally I have a couple of different hop spiders but seldom use them. The GF by standard should be fine without it. If you add a false bottom also then you are further protected. If you use a hop spider then you should add 10% more hops to compensate.

      I have the Grainfather hop spider and well, it works as advertised but it's another thing to clean when the brew day is over. It doesn't catch all of the hops but it does most of it. I rarely use it anymore though since I think the Grainfather works just fine without it. I don't have the false bottom, for the same reason, but I think it would probably be better than the spider as it lets the hops move around more freely.

    David: thank you for your wonderful and informative videos: I love the calm style as well:
    I am keen to get into more involved brewing, having only brewed from kits up to now.
    I’m stuck between the Robobrew and the Grainfather connect but kind of feel either will do me fine. TheBrewtools system looks too complex for a beginner and probably to expensive with the chiller. To my simple mind the fermenter is the first buy. But after watching all of your videos I am still confused between the Fermzilla with an internal chiller coil added and temp probe, or the Grainfather SS conical. The room I brew in is usually a bit cooler than ambient running between 18 deg c and 22 but it can get warmer. The Fermzilla seems to cover all options with pressure and the container at the bottom for dry hopping and removal of Trub. But in videos you suggested that the GF will get a pressure kit and you didn’t seem to think that dry hoping would ever cause oxidisation in the real world. I wonder if you could advise. I doubt if I could ever buy a glycol chiller but can use tap water to chill with a solenoid valve. I am mechanically minded and have a technical background. Money is not the issue space however is. So it’s one or the other. What would you do?
    Sorry for the ramble and thanks for any advice given in advance. Hopefully I have explained well enough. Regards and keep up the good work. Mark

      Sorry for the late reply, YT has some errors with message reporting recently so I only just got to see this! Since the RoboBrew Brewzilla 3.1.1 things have drawn even closer between these two. I think for sheer value for money the Robobrew comes out on top here. The GF conical will last longer than a Fermzilla but a Fermzilla has various extra uses. The GF pressure side is just for transfer sadly. Hope this helps :)

    It seems little bit strange to me, that overpressure valve post in lid do not accept just normal airlock. I've tried it many times before to ferment my beers just in normal corny keg and overpressure post fits perfect for most of my airlocks. While its made of steel, of course and had quite a sharp thread inside. So actually I had to twist in my airlock into the post and soft plastic airlock become thread as well and create completlly airtight seal with no problem at all. Thankfully its larger than airlock tube, so probably thats enough to put some teflon tape on it to twist it down to lid.

      @@DavidHeathHomebrew So maybe this overpressure valves has different diameter then the ones comes with normal corny? Can you try to replace valves between corny and fermenter? I have a snub nose Fermentasurus and would not buy one again. David can you investigate the failing take-up pipe attached to the float. With mine when I get half to three quarters down doing a closed transfer the take-up pipe sticks up on an angle and stops transferring wort and just sucks in air (very frustrating). I've got a brew fermenting at the moment and have attached a small weight to the pipe to try and keep it pointed down. I know of other people who have had this problem it would be great to know if you've had it happen or you could investigate it.
