Having first owned an Apple TV since 2018, I couldn’t even imagine using stock or downloaded apps on TV’s itself. It’s No comparison. And the 3rd generation 4K is soooo much better than my older 1st & 2nd Gen. I didn’t expect the difference to be that noticeable in size or speed.
Coming from someone who uses my smart tv's preinstalled Netflix and UA-cam apps, this really makes me seriously consider buying an Apple TV to see the difference
Don't forget that most smart TVs and external Android boxes show ads, which cannot be disabled. Also the Apple TV is one the very few settop boxes, which can pass through the original frame rate of played material - so there is no micro-stuttering like on so many Android bases boxes and TVs ....
Yup. I have to stay with the Shield for my ceiling speakers and USB port. I just use the Shield as the Plex Server now. Too bad Apple can’t do these 2 things.

My favorite thing is that movies purchased through Apple often have special features and commentary on par with a DVD or Blu Ray if you access them on an AppleTV device. And there are so many good $5-$10 sales every week, it is easy to build a digital library of my favorite films so I don’t have to hunt through a dozen different streaming services every time I want to watch something specific.
A big advantage of the Apple 4k TV is the ability to change the TV resolution format back to the original show's format. For instance, DS9 on Paramount+ looks terrible in 4K, but the Apple player lets me change my LGC2 resolution to 720p SDR. Looks so much better. Same with Seinfeld on Netflix which is horrific in 4K. The Apple TV makes these shows so much better to watch.
HDR looks like crap on my 4k TV and there is no way to disable it in the TV settings, but in the Apple 4K TV settings I can force SDR and it looks much better, at least on my TV
I love my Apple TV with the original HomePods. I have it connected to a 77” LG OLED. The Apple TV interface is simple and clean. Plus, with the HomePods it is a theater-like experience. I am fully submerged into the Apple ecosystem though, so the Apple TV works with all of my devices.
I've just gotten in to listening to spatial audio via Apple Music on the Apple TV. Even with a 5.1 setup it sounds incredible. Turns the TV into a karaoke screen too. Neighbours be damned, I'm a belter. Pity it's to Barbie Girl but you gotta start somewhere.
I upgraded from the 2017 4K Apple TV to the current 128Gb model. I’ll say this, Apple did a great job keeping the 2107 version up to date. I haven’t noticed much difference between the two versions. One thing I noticed was when watching videos on UA-cam in 4K 60fps the 2017 model would downscale to 1440p 60fps. The current version runs 4K hdr 60fps no problem.

1 thing about the app support: Netflix still hasn't gotten around to support their basic plan (with ads) on the Apple TV yet, but this plan is already supported on most devices. It's been months.. what's the hold up? Also one other thing about app support: Amazon Prime shows buffer a lot more on Apple TV than it does on my Samsung Smart TV, and my Samsung TV's UI is really laggy and slow.
Another critique: Siri is good at voice recognition for typing searches, but is useless for anything else as its not connected to Google. So Siri can't answer the most basic of questions.
Apple again failed on one part, no Dolby Atmos TrueHD support. Yes, I love to watch Bluray movies through Plex and even the 2019 Nvidia can do it, but it starts to show its slowness. Keeping my hopes up that it will get this update via a firmware update.

Some games are free (think many of the free apps on your iPhone), and some streaming apps are free that stream free movies. Like PlutoTV, etc.
Is anyone having issues with your remote becoming unpaired?
I’ll stick to my last gen
I own both 2nd and third generation, in terms of image quality! they are exactly the same, you need to upgrade only if you really need more storage ,I bought the 128GB model cause I have lotta games and apps other than that! I’ll keep my 2nd generation
For me the picture and sound is better than second Gen. but this also depends on hardware to see and hear the difference
Smart TV people are SOO smart 😏
🥁😂
The only thing it’s missing is a web browser.
After this video, I'm upgrading my 🍎TV. Now for the real question, can it run Elder Scrolls?
How come? Mine did come with a USB-C charging cable in the box.
Nice!
what is that app the let you run 4 streams at on time ?
DAZN
@@KyleErickson thanks
Nah my fire tv stick is great
STILL NO dolby atmos through trueHD… must buy a Nvidia shield for almost half price and support for ALL audio codecs! 😎👍🏻
hey... the lights in the back... make that i cant focus on your face... so maybe change it so a more soft light ..or put lighst on the side instead of the middle ... its just a bit toooo muchhhhhhhhhhhh tnx
With high end tv, there is no need any external boxes
nah apple tv is bad u cant put ur files on it if u want to directly play from apple tv u can only stream which is bad, nvidia shield have usb port while apple tv no.
There's literally a computer app on the Apple TV to play whatever is on your computer.
HDR10+ is not free it has a cost
I am not everyone, I have no usb c cables laying around... I still have a MacBook Pro from 2015... I'm still using usb a regularly. this is just another way for apple to make money by getting people to buy their cables.
You can buy any Type-C cable. Type-C isn’t Apple
@@iCrackr never said it was, still means that apple purposefully changed to not ship products with cables or chargers, so they can make money off of that!
Similarly, I also don’t have a usb charger, bc I used my iphone 7 until like 2 years ago, and by that time apple stopped shipping new phones with chargers already!
