Turn Adjectives into Nouns in Spanish (S03E04)

- I like to talk fast. Maybe that's why I don't breathe or blink in my videos?
It frustrates me when my mouth can't keep up with my mind.
I need to calm down. I'm working on that.
But that doesn't happen to me nearly as much in Spanish... for a couple reasons:
#1 -- My mind doesn't work as fast in Spanish as it does in English =)
#2 -- We can often say stuff in Spanish with fewer words than in English.
We've seen this before with subject pronouns:
"We sleep" is "nosotros dormimos" or just "dormimos"--without "nosotros".
That's faster.
Well, in today's video, you'll see how to make a noun from any adjective you already know.
And that allows you to say two different phrases in Spanish--without learning (or even saying) any more words!

I agree. The music is too loud. The first time it startled me. Now when I watch your videos, I turn the volume down until after the music plays. Then I turn up the volume.

Muchas Gracias, Jordan! I love Spanish. I've been studying it in school for almost four years, since sixth grade. I'm always looking for books, magazines, and notices written in Spanish. I like to look at them and break them down to see what they mean. This particular topic has always been difficult for me to understand, but now, thanks to your video, things are much clearer. Keep up the good work!
I absolutely love these lessons and I am very lucky to have found them. I studied German for years and eventually learned to speak, read, write and hear it fluently. But thanks to videos such as yours I have made so much progress so much faster than I did while learning German. I don't know if Spanish has been easier for me because of the access I now have to all of these fantastic videos & lessons, or if it's because of the experience I gained and lessons learned from learning another language previously. Or maybe Spanish is just easier than German. But it took me over a year in German to get to where I now am in Spanish after just six weeks!. Any who...thanks for all of your help!!!
English allows adjectives to be used as nouns. In the movie title, the good, the bad & the ugly, "good", "bad" & "ugly" are adjectives used as nouns. It's called "nominalization".

Actually, remembering vocabulary and understanding what a native Spanish speaker says are two big problems for me. I've been having conversations with native speakers, and I'm improving, but progress is too slow.

Omg our stories for falling in love with Spanish is so similar. I was in China for an international competition in speaking mandarin and met all the people from Latin America and mostly due to them being so friendy. But mainly due to me meeting a girl from Chile who does not speak almost any English and me only having very broken spanish who is now also my gf. After that I've been learning Spanish ever since.

I am Eleonora from Holland, yes the netherlands. And first of all I’d like to thank you so much for all the videos you’ve made, they help me so much! I lived for half a year in Spain in Santa Susana, because of my internship for my study. I went to multiple hotels in the region and worked there in an entertainment team. I lived together with other students from Holland and we had the greatest time there. We met so many people and we made some Spanish friends for life. I came back to Holland and realized that my new goal was to speak fluently spanish and that I am going to learn every day in different ways, also the ones that you recommend. Now one of my Spanish friends comes to Holland, with Erasmus, to study in Groningen. My question is where did you study that time in 2001? I am very curious, he’s gonna live in a student home with spanish but also american people aswell.
And I am learning most of spanish via english, while my native language is dutch. I think that is easier learning because english is more straight forward than dutch (you have polite dutch, old dutch, slang dutch) there are so many ways to say something. What do you think about learning a new language not via your native one? And do you know any dutch since you have lived here haha?!

Estoy un estudiante de espanol y me interesa mucho es la conexion entre verbos y adjectivos. Mejor dicho algunos verbos se puede convirtir en adjectivos. Por ejemplo intentar a intentado. O confiar a confiado. Puedes hacer un video explicar esto?

I'm a. Latín american and my third language that I'm studying is German and sometimes I struggle with nouns and adjectives: for example
Die Wohnung : El apartamento----> the apartment , "Die" is feminine but apartment is masculine ok I'm new at German but many words that has gender in spanish are not clear in german

The reason we seem to have more words at our disposal in english is because it's a bastard language. Before you get all sore about describing english like that, I heard a Professor of languages use that term. Basically it means we borrow words from three or four different languages and as a result we usually have more options in word selection. We "borrow" words from german, french, latin, norse, and whatever celtic languages were around before we were invaded/conquered/colonised by the various different tribes :)

Las civilizaciones de asia oriental, de Filipinas, de Indonesia, de China, de Japon tambien han aportado lo suyo. Todo el intercambio que nutrió al castellano que hoy conocemos se debió a lo de siempre, conversaciones, comercio y expansionismo militar llevado a cabo por los habitantes de Iberia. Me atrevo a decir que no existe civilización que nunca haya tomado prestamos linguisticos.
Worked with a basque girl in 98 in Burger king. Spent a summer learning words for burger ingredients. Then spent 20 years not learning Spanish until now.

In Spanish we have "Finir" which is "Finish", Acabar means to end and terminar to terminate and parar/cesar to stop and cease.
También está el verbo “finiquitar” pero la verdad que es este verbo no es nada coloquial y probablemente sólo se encuentra en obras de literatura.

Acabar is to finish! You could also say acabé la tarea.
Acabar conjugated to th subject however is more of a way to say I just recently did a thing.
For example: I just came back = acabo de regresar.
You just went = acabas de ir.

My family says acabar and terminar interchangeably for finish in Spanish
Mmmm, Finish = Finalizar :D Terminate = Terminar :D End = Acabar. All of them share the same meaning, but at you mentioned, they are used in very different ways. Just wanted you to know that there is an actual word to say Finish in Spanish :3

+Gringo Español Oh, I did not remember that word when I was posting my comment, my bad xD There is a word in Spanish we use in birth certificates when any parent or grandparent is already gone. It is "Finado", which come from the verb "Finar", meaning "to die; life's end". Although Finado is a pretty well known word, Finar is not. I do not really know if there is a word/verb in English to Finar other than Die/Morir, Pass Away/Morir as well, but nicer... Anyhow, I like your videos and eventhough they are meant to teach Spanish, I am learning Englis xD Best regards!!

If you don't understand how nouns and adjectives work, this video is too fast. And maybe it's too fast no matter what. But I think if you really understood how nouns and adjectives work, if you watch the video, maybe twice, you'll find you can understand it. Also, on a computer, you can slow down the sound.
