- I make a Campfire Tripod - Heating Steel Rebar with a Handheld Propane LPG Gas Burner Torch.
Because I was using 5/8 inch (16mm) Rebar I needed to use a gas burner torch to heat the steel so I could bend it. I enjoy doing blacksmithing-type jobs, it was a very peaceful DIY project, with nowhere near the amount of noise I normally make.
We do quite a bit of outdoor campfire or fireplace cooking and this tripod is a good solid addition to our outdoor kitchen gear.
All the rebar was 5/8 inch (16mm) Except the Hook which was made with 1/2 inch (13mm) Rebar. The height of the campfire tripod, when it is set up, is 43 1/2 inches (110mm).
The main tools used, were a Handheld Propane LPG Gas Burner Torch, MIG welder, angle grinder, and bench vise.
Tools / Supplies, I often use are.

Hope you found something of use in my video or at least found it entertaining.
Gavin Clark DIY -
I have two forges, two powerhammers, and a hydraulic forging press. I can make this is moments. BUT. You do it with brains and finesse. As opposed to brute strength. Brilliant use of strategic heat and pressure. As always? You Sir are an effing Beast of a Madman!! Your skills always amaze me.
Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it, and I very much appreciate your comment.
What He said!☝
Do you sell these
It’s easy! All you need is a few simple tools, and years and years of practice! 😆 Seriously though, those are some beautifully executed circles 🤯
That you were able to make the "eye" bend in the rebar without using a mandrel is VERY impressive. That's some metal-working skill right there.
Thank you very much Tim, I appreciate your comment.
As much rebar as you use I am surprised a rebar manufacturer hasn't offered you stock options.
Awesome build.
Thank you very much Chris, I am happy you liked it. I appreciate your comment.
Stuff like this is what keeps a tinkering man sane. I love it and will copy it. Great stuff sir.
Thank you very much, I wish you the best for your project.
I heard there's a lot of big construction in your area that's fallen behind schedule because of a shortage of rebar.
Great build. I like how you introduced heat to this project. Anyone with a gas BBQ can get a torch for under a hundred and do the same.
Hahaha, I have my special contacts to get me the rebar, big construction can wait, hahaha. Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it, yes I try to keep the tools simple, and in most cases quite cheap. Thank you for your comment.
Parabéns ótimo projeto espetáculo trabalho bem feito
@@GavinClarkdiy mask up first 😉
Muy bien, trabajo perfecto
I’m a SteelFixer I’ve worked with Rebar for 40 years. Your work is amazing, but you could seriously do with a Kennedy bender.
Thank you very much Jamie, I am glad you liked it. I try to just use simple tools on the channel.
Nice. I already have the workbench, torch, and tools. Thanks for the instructions.
Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it. I wish you the best for your project.
Gavin Clark is simply Genius Man...
I am very happy that you like my work. Thank you.
WOW !! IMPRESSIVE !! IMPRESSIVE IN WHAT YOU BUILT & IN YOUR SKILL !!!
Well Made Video !!
Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment.
Nice to see another video Gavin. You truly are a metal master-smith! You know exactly how much heat, and where to apply it to get the result you need with the bend. It was fascinating to watch. Great job!
Thank you very much Mike, I am glad you liked it and I appreciate your very nice comment.
România, present 🇷🇴👍👋👋
Thank you very much, I am happy you liked it. Greetings from Australia.
Thanks for the new idea. I could have used brute force but you sir is different. Salute
I must be getting old, 12mm (1/2 inch ) is my limit now for bending freehand. Heat is my friend, I wish you the best for your project.
That has inspired me to go off to the nearest building site and nick some rebar! Lovely job.
Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it.
Umm...heck yeah! Across the Pacific in the northwest of the Canadian wilderness, I approve!
Hahaha, Cheers! mate. Greetings from Australia.
You made it look easy. I'm going to give it a try.
I really liked your hot bending of the rings with pipe, i use the same method to straighten out coil spring when i'm blacksmithing. It all looked really neat and tidy when finished, great job Gavin.
Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it. You would need a lot more heat to do a coil spring than what I am using, blacksmithing is so cool, and relaxing to watch, I enjoy watching it. Cheers Brett.
Amazing! I don't know how you manage to bend the rebar in perfect circles each time, but I'm impressed.
Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment.
Always enjoy the videos! Simple, well filmed, well executed and practical. Well done, Mate.
Thank you very much Jay, I appreciate your comment. Cheers!
I always love watching your project videos. Cheers from B.C. Canada.
Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment. Greetings from Australia.
Saluti dall'Australia.
Mr. R, you might not be a roll model for safety, but you sure have become a master at bending and working rebar... Another job well done.. Take care my friend and God Bless...
Thank you very much Gary, I appreciate your comment.
Nice job you make it look easy !!
Thank you very much Jim, I am glad you liked it. I like doing this sort of stuff.
I like how you free form your bends and also make them look real neat, no jigs, just a good eye for it. Think something like this as a gift to some camping friends would be great so I will give it a try.
Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it. I wish you the best for your project.
Awsome. A hanging grate would be nice on this as well. Loved this video.❤
Thank you very much. I do agree with you, a hanging grate would be a very good addition to this. I appreciate your comment.
I was always afraid welding would blind me, now that I'm retired I might as well take it back up!
I wish you the best for your future projects.
Part inventor, part artist, and part mad scientist, thanks sir.
Thank you very much Mark, I am glad you liked it, and I love your comment.
Po pun e mir ta gëzojn ata që do e përdorin 🌹🇦🇱🌹🇦🇱🌹

NICE. YOUR SHOP IS SO CLEAN. LOOKS GREAT. DON'T THINK MINE EVER WAS... INSPIRING IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE.
Thank you very much. The shop is not always clean, just when the camera is there. Hahaha Cheers Daniel
A very good job, simple and practical. Greetings from Argentina
Thank you very much, I am happy you liked it. Greetings from Australia.
Excellent didn’t even know I needed a Tripod;) Wonderful craftsmanship Cheers
Thank you very much Kevin, I am glad you liked it.
It is simply beautiful. Love rebar to.
Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it. Yes rebar is awesome. Cheers Harald
Nice job Gavin you should take up artistic blacksmithing every thing you have done there is the same principal you have a good eye for curves, radius and straightness and perspective
Tony
Thank you very much Tony, I appreciate your comment, I do love doing these type of things.
That tripod will last forever. Great job !!!!!
Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it.
Obviously a very skilled craftsmen, near perfect circle. , I am sure mine wouldn't look like that!
Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment. But really for it to work it does not need to be anywhere near round.
Great video, thank you. Hope you don’t mind but I’m going to try and make this myself
Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it and I wish you the best for your project Ken.
Wonderful job man!!! This is a typical instrument in South of Brazil! I woul like to have one here in Southeast!!!
Congratulation!!!👏👏👏👏
Thank you very much, I am happy you liked it, and I appreciate your comment.
Absolutely Beautiful...Bravo Mate !!!
Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it, and I appreciate your comment.
I loved the subtle humor when you showed the Alpha cutoff disc, then the Alpha flap disc, and then the very old pipe wrench! Lol! Another great project! I’m sure the yabbies will be lined up to end their days under this tripod! I never tire of watching your projects, but I do have a suggestion! Get some t-shirts made up that say “Rebar Fears Me!”! Keep on bendin Gav!
Hahaha, It doesn't fear me enough, it has attacked me a few times. I do like your suggestion Tom, Cheers! mate.
Man, you are really an inspiration, all your work is so well done, greetings from South America. : )
Hello from Texas! Glad to meet ya!

That was exactly what I wanted to make, brilliant many thanks🇦🇺👍🍺🍺

Quite an impressive eye for detail
Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it.
Hi Folks , Hi Gavin we can count on your great craft skills to do it right lovely tripod for the fire 💯
Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it.
The finished product sure looks the part! Great circles for not bending them around some round stock! Cheers!
Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it and I very much I appreciate your comment. Cheers!
good job ol mate, good to see you again !
Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment.
I've not done much work with metal, but extensive work with wood. Your video has inspired me to try some projects like this one. I love your work and your video. Thank you very much for sharing!
Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment, I wish you the best for your future projects.
I made one years ago, but I like the way you did it better. I welded steel washers about 15mm from the bottom of the legs so they wouldn't sink into soft soil, but kept the points a bit sharp. Thanks for the video. Jon
I have done the same thing with some of our light travel ones, put washers near the bottom too. Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment.
Always so great watching you work your magic! Thank you for sharing.
Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment.
Buenos días Gavin, hermoso trabajo. Gracias por compartir!
Muchas gracias, me alegra que te haya gustado y agradezco tu comentario.
This is the first time i have come across one of your videos and i found it to be very fascinating! One can tell you have been at this for awhile by the skill that you show with that heat placement to achieve such perfect bends. Thank you for sharing your art. New sub here🙏
Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment. Welcome to the channel.
Spotting the new vice ,Gavin looks as strong as the old . I love watching you turn pieces of rebar into something useful and pleasing to the eye.
Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment. Yes, I am very happy with the new vice.
Awesome job! Amazing how round you got those eyes!
Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment.
You are a gifted artist !! ....I must say, i do miss the old vice .....!
Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment. Yes my old vice was lovely to use. Cheers!
At least!!! I was waiting for your video long time!

Thank you very much Bob, I am glad you liked it and I appreciate your comment.
Nice skills Gavin and a really nice end result.
Thank you very much Damian, I am glad you liked it. Cheers! mate
I like your content. Reminds me of my hobby when I was MUCH younger. I have, since, given my blast furnace, crucibles, forge, green sand flasks, green sand mixer and two of my transfer hammers to my old partner. I got too old and decrepid to do that hobby.
Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it. You must have made some awesome stuff over the years, not to mention all the memories that you still have. Cheers! mate.
Was thinking of making one .
The idea of bending the spike and welding it to a cut chain . solved a problem for me.
Thank you.
Thank you very much Andrew, I am glad my video was helpful, I wish you the best for your project.
Very, very nice Gavin!
Thank you very much.
Beautiful job, sir.

Thank you very much.
Great result!
Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it.
Wished you lived in America Mate... Hell I wished you were my neighbor too! Man would I learn a lot!! LOL✌
Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment. I wish you the best for your future. Greetings from Australia Mate.

Sir, you have exceptional rebar bending skills. No additional tools are required.

Gorgeous, heavy as hell but gorgeous
Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it. This one will be set up most of the time in one spot over a campfire, so it won't be moved much. Cheers mate.
Muchas gracias, agradezco tu comentario.
Hi there I like the heating instead of all that hammering
Hahaha, I think I do too, thanks Paul. Cheers!

Great vid and project as always.
