I bought a dutch oven and am going to try this the first day my fiance and I go to the mountains. I've discovered a real love for cooking outdoors. There's something so therapeutic about it.
You may have made this video 2 yrs ago but it is still spectacular! Your bread looks divine! Your wife should be so proud of you, you are very talented! I will look for more of your videos, thanks!
So nice to see a man with such a love of his environment. It would take a team of forensic scientists to find his camp site. He did such a good job of restoring it to its natural state. Well done Sir.
My dad was a joiner and carpenter who had no boys so his 3 girls were his apprentices and he taught us a lot. Now I'm learning a whole set of new skills from you about living off the grid in hurricane season in Florida. Love learning new things from every video and having fun practicing them, Hoping my Dutch oven bread comes out half as good as yours.
Love that dobro in the background. I love acoustic instruments. I used to go to as many bluegrass festivals as I could in the US. I was raised on old country music, not the stuff they call country today... I just bought an 8 quart cast iron Dutch oven. I've made bread for years at home...campfire cooking is another beast altogether...lol.
Just beautiful. I'm from the Caribbean and now I finally understand what my father used to say about baking outdoors long ago. He said there was fire above and below the oven and back then I had no idea what he meant. He also said it was the most delicious bread he had ever eaten. This actually looks like fun.
You have to try it out! Before working class people in Britain could afford stoves, they had a kind of Dutch Oven that fitted infront of a household fireplace and was heated from the back. I think industrial processes to make cast iron cheaply changed how we all cooked, but we've largely forgotten how now.
"Am I Richard's Brother?" was my Favorite part of the Video. I laughed for the rest of the video. Thank you Simon , for all the time and work put into the tips and ideas .... and yes, I'm gonna try the bread recipe.

Hi Simon, I don’t watch your vids all the time I save them for times when I need to relax, like a good book sit back and enjoy the joinery and before you know time has flown and you feel so much better, thanks very much and a big kiss for Maggie 💋
Hello, I enjoyed your video and learning about you and your family. I’m from the USA and have enjoyed the outdoors as long as I can remember. Im 58 with children ages 10/23/32 so I understand the kids going their own way. I do bake a lot and was quite surprised with all the yeast you used for one loaf of bread but obviously it worked quite well for you. Im currently a deployed soldier and I have a little hiding spot I go off to and do my own Chuck Wagon style cooking and baking. It keeps me going when my duty starts to get to me. Your dog is a real sweetheart. If you ever travel to the USA, we live in a log cabin in the woods. We’d love to share some good ole Midwest hospitality. Peace!
loved every minute. I do this once a week now in my backyard have a lot of property some of it is wooded and I have a little tree stump and a lot of cast iron. Very relaxing and I take my Bible and a blanket and I'm good to go. Love the bread. Love your dog
Maggie came along! No surprise your channel is growing, you are genuine and shows through. Thanks for another video getaway & all the best to you, cheers 🍻.
Confound farmers, think they own the place. Thanks for showing how to make Dutch oven bread cooking. I am of the opinion that good bakers are scientists and craftsmen. Good cooks are artists. You definitely have the Dutch oven bread down to a science. “And delicious, just how bread should be…now, that is spectacular!” Way to go, Simon. I enjoyed this, several times. About the Mrs., precisely the same with me and mine. Mine thinks that, roughing it, is a Holiday Inn. Again, the music in this video was GREAT! Kentucky

Critters fed and I’m looking at Grey Squirrels, Cardinals, Red-throated Grosbeeks, Sparrows, House Wrens, Goldfinches, Bluejays, and a murder of Crows, once in a while. My Little River has gone down, after the storm and my family sleeps. I hope your family, life and work are all going well
What wonderful moments. I want that oven. Bread ummmm and that bacon. Never see one of this...Im look like maggie with saliva in my mouth 😂😂 I love camp.
What a terrific job you did. I bake bread (at home) and I learned so much just watching you. My mouth was watering especially when you made the cheese and bacon wrap. You are one fine person. Thanks for sharing. All the best to you!
Great vid! Yeah, my daughter loves the woods and camping, my wife also thinks that camping is staying in a hotel where they don’t put a mint on your pillow! Give Mags a hug for me!

UK knife laws only allow you to carry a folding non-lock bladed knife of 3 inches or less (if I remember correctly). However, you can use larger knives to carry out certain jobs, but you can't just carry them around with you all of the time. If you look up UK knife law, you'll probably get a much more accurate description, but that is why we don't carry larger knives on our belts whilst travelling to and from where we need them, generally they're packed in the bag. Hope this helps.

Wow my friend: Permissions? Heavy construction next to your "camp" site? jumbo jets overhead? Just move to Canada already, you got the skills, put them to the test...and you're a carpenter? So come move here, buy a 100 acres in the real "bush", harvest your own wood and work when you want as a Euro trained carpenter. My stepfather is a Northern Ireland trained carpenter, came here in the 70s, been a foreman at a local construction company for 30 yrs, loves the Canadian forests, has made a great life here. Bang on mate, Halloumi is top notch, Halloumi and chips, grill the Halloumi planks on griddle, the squeeky wounderfullness of Halloumi, first encountered it in Cyprus 1980, cheers.
Halloumi a Cyprus original..the ONLY cheese in the world that doesn't melt..love all the vids..regards from Nicosia
I enjoyed your video very much and Maggie as well, she is a sweetheart. The food looked wonderful and I love how you respect the land and put it back the way you found it. Your video makes me want to go out and do some good cooking in the great outdoors. Thank you very much.
Sewing your own tents, baking your own bread, making your own canoe, what CAN'T you do?
I love how the cheese squeaks when he cuts its and when he tore the bread 🤤🤤🤤🤤
i love how you mix dough in the bag, it keeps it all off your hands until it's doughy :D
Gooey hands are no fun in the woods 😂
@@simonablokeinthewoods no they aren't!! haha
A man, his dog, crispy bread, fresh bacon, and cheese. What more do you need???
Wine would be a nice touch
My Petromax dutch oven has become my entire kitchen for camping. Found that lasagna churns out better than in an electric oven! Keep these videos comming. 👍
Unless it's too cold.
I love the cold. Should I become a carpenter and renounce my US citizenship? 😆
Great demonstration of bread making. Thanks for sharing. Excellent video. You do things the proper way for sure
When you split the bread i'm sure i could actually smell it.
Perfection!!! Unfortunately it is 2:00 am and too late to head out to my favorite camping spot. But, one can live vicariously!
Haven't watched the video yet. I know it involves delicious food. So I'll wait until I had dinner.
mons2000 Too late I watched it before tea, now I'm hungrier than ever, it looks delicious
Wise choice! 😂
I simply appreciate the time I get to spend with you. Thanks for letting me come along
