Beautiful song. So much controversy back in the day over this song. This is the song he wrote and donated to USA For Africa/Live Aid, in place of actually showing up to sing with everyone, which is a much more personal and heartfelt gift in my opinion. The song Hello, a B-side to Pop Life, was written in response to all the controversy over this. "I tried 2 tell them that I didn't want 2 sing But I'd gladly write a song instead, They said okay and everything was cool, 'Til a camera tried 2 get in my bed"
I still like the "studio" version (with all the finger cymbals etc) better than this "live" version. They put this version on the hits and the b sides. maybe because the usa for africa version has copyright restrictions. But I've never actually seen this video before. We didn't get to see all his videos in Australia.
Yeah it is good, he was probably saving it at that time for some other release. I may add this one to the list of my piano tributes on my channel, never thought of doing this one until now.
Brian Inglis I feel the same. Was wondering why the version on that triple compilation sounded different. i didn't have access to the usa 4 africa album anymore to reference. still good nonetheless.
The camera lyric alludes to the paparazzi at the time but Prince actually criticizes the focus on Africa when there was much hunger in the USA, Prince was a patriot at the time, just listen to America, totally right wing patriot song. Hello is just another of several patriotic songs that cleverly are made to seem like something else. .::Modernaire

Four cents may be all that they're worth
For the rising sun each day assures us

Soundtrack 2 my life....I was there with u Prince...💜✝️☮️
OMG!!!!! love this song........ especially the guitar solo.
I wish Prince had ploughed this furrow more often. The arrangement is amazing.
He had to keep it fresh
Tickleing the listeners with with faith and love...who, no 1 could do it better. THE BEST EVER
God blessed this man with unrivalled musical talent and gave him the soul of a poet, and Prince praised God for his gift.
"I tried 2 tell them that I didn't want 2 sing
But I'd gladly write a song instead, They said okay and everything was cool, 'Til a camera tried 2 get in my bed"
Hello is just another of several patriotic songs that cleverly are made to seem like something else. .::Modernaire
wendileona I love the song America by prince it's amazing I can't wait to hear a good version online !!
This was aired during Live Aid in lieu of a performance by Prince. I remember watching the live broadcast of the entire event on MTV while holding the remote to my VCR because I wanted to record this video (along with artists I liked: Bowie, Queen, Sade)
Dang going back through old vedios love this song miss him 😟
Nice too see him with wendy and lisa there very talented musicians in there own right .
This was shown on tv as Prince's contribution to Live Aid. I've been looking for this video for years. Such a beautiful song. Thank you for posting this!
and they included this in the usa for africa album is a testament to prince's legacy. he is still missed.
