    So many people are still unsure of how to capture interview audio on a budget, but this video shows you one way to do it right with only $100 and a mic you already have lying around. We also tackle some lighting tips and how to light an interview so that you don't have a boom shadow.
    Recording a one person interview shouldn't be too tough after watching this video and putting together your own version of this kit for less than $100! Recording interview audio with an on-camera mic might not be the first thing you think of, but it totally works in many situations!
    Let us know in the comments below how you would change this kit or what you want to see from us next!

    I ordered both the stand and the cable from the links in the description. The stand was not the stand pictured in the video and was for holding a deflector screen, and the cable was not a TRRS cable. Thought I'd give y'all and Deity a heads up to update the links in the description for those still referencing this video. Had to return both.

    As mentioned by someone else, I purchased the boom stand from the link and it’s actually different than the one used in the video. It has clips for a reflector, not a screw mount for the mic. I purchased it and sat on it for a while and noticed too late to return. Please change the link so others don’t deal with the same issue.
    Appreciate the video though. It’s very helpful.

    Quick lighting tip: if you use a Long fixture like in this example, or (Quasar Tubes, Kinos etz.) don't put them vertical, a lightsource that is wider will usually result in a softer and more pleasing image than a tall one. But of course this video is about audio. and that sounds surprisingly good for such low cost. This might be my go to setup if clients ask me to set up a permanent solution for them.

    I happen to have a question for which I can't find an answer at this late date.
    I wrote to Zoom Corporation, however, they won't be able to respond until next Monday at the earliest.
    Unfortunately, I didn't think of this serious question until too late. I'm planning on driving to an archaeological site today, June 25th for a two day shoot.
    I have the Deity D3 Pro Microphone (with the XLR adapter) and also the Sennheiser MKE 400. Both of them have as I'm certain you know internal battery power. So if I want to use either of them for field recording (with NO camera input), just mic to Zoom F3, what do I do about the phantom power setting on the Zoom F3. Do I leave the power off on the mic and set the Zoom F3 input setting on Mic (+48)?
    What about the power on the Deity D3 Pro Microphone? Do I leave it OFF or Turn it ON?
    Or what???
    Any advice will be most appreciated.
    Thanks,
    GB

    Can you please share (record ?) an example on how to connect D3 V-mic to an audio interface. When I try to connect D3 to Focusrite 2i2, I have to slightly unplug the mic connection (TRS or TRRS) to get the sound. I tried D-XLR, but it had the same problem. Mic works great with Sony A7R4, regular sound card via TRS. It looks like TR(R)S->TS is the root of the problem.

    Nice walkthrough! I got the D-XLR adapter to use my V-Mic with an H4N recorder and XLR cables. If you've already covered this setup, I may have missed it. The phantom power requirements depending on what gear we are using can be a bit confusing.

    • @DeityMicrophones
      @DeityMicrophones  3 роки тому +1

      Always us +48V if you are using the D-XLR adapter. It converts the 48V to 3V using some electronics we added to the D-XLR. That 3V power is whats triggering your V-Mic to wake up.

    #mailbag - I hope I am asking this correctly - When recording multiple people at one time, is it possible and/or better/worse to record separate audio tracks for post-production purposes? I recently purchased the Tascam 60D Mark II. My thought was that even though there would be bleed over, I would have one mic on voice and maybe a separate mic focused on guitar or a second person signing (something like that) I thought I would later take the individual track and tweak each one in post based on the priority of its purpose, then mix them together. I discovered that plugging in both channels 1 and 2 on the Tascam records on the same track. Do I need a different devise or am I thinking about this all wrong?

    • @stevenchristides
      @stevenchristides 3 роки тому

      In that situation, your best bet would probably be the shotgun mic since it can reject off axis sound and thus minimize the reflections in your recording. Something that a lav mic, (assuming it's omnidirectional) won't do.

In my local video production store the audio salesmen recommended I run my shotgun mic(rode videomic pro+) to my audio recorder(zoomh5) with a 3.5trs-xlr cable then use the “line out” on the h5 with a 3.5trs to my camera. I’m getting a ton of noise/hissing and cannot seem to get rid of it even after adjusting the h5 line out to -30db and Gh5 to -12 in camera.
