- This is the third year that I have visited the Sewing for Pleasure Show that is held every March at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham.
Once again it didn't disappoint! Lots of lovely fabric, lots of interesting people and lots of things to give you inspiration.
So... what was there? Well.. just so much that it almost makes you dizzy!
Who did I see? Some people, like Sarah at Sewing Sanctuary, who I see at each show, were lovely to catch up with.
Then there were new people, like Vicky and Wendy, who I hadn't seen before. Also I was pleased to meet Sarah the Vintage Sewer. She looked amazing and was lovely to talk to.
We had a lovely day and were totally worn out by the end. But it was all lovely.
I couldn't believe someone recognised me! I was totally lost for words! Thank you to Jess for agreeing to be filmed. It made my day....

What did I bring home with me? I'll show you at the end of the video. I definitely didn't expect to bring back so much! But it's all lovely and it has a purpose too. There'll be a lot of sewing going on in the next few months that's for sure....

I so enjoyed this video and seeing familiar suppliers as I used to go regularly on my own or with Embroiderers' Guild friends. Wendy Dolan came to a meeting which was very good but I gave the book to a friend as after workshops it was obvious I'm not a textiles dabbler!😂. I still have to do something with the bird panels of Kate Findlay's design that I bought online then saw her amazing stall at the FOQ last August. I missed going with friends and getting together later at our B&B to show what we'd bought😢. Thank you Marion for sharing your day. I loved seeing your purchases especially the floral duo and will look forward to seeing what you make later.

I saw a sign at a quilt show one year that said "sewing and collecting the supplies for sewing are two separate hobbies" 😂

My aunt use to lose her embroidery scissors in the cushion area of her sitting chair. Then one day she sat down rather hard and found them. She had to have her granddaughter pull them out of her thigh.
I'm always conscious of my own now. lol

I just discovered your video tonight and I am soooooo grateful that you shared your visit to the exhibition I live in Prince Edward Island, Canada, and at 71 y.o. I will never travel again. I draw my own patterns for embroidery. I can paint people, pets, landscapes and I want to try painting on fabrics. I sewed 13 outfits including summer dresses, pants tops, etc. during the pandemic. What a fabulous show. We have so much trouble sourcing fabric for things other than quilts where we live. If only we could attend a show like this one!
Considering I usually sew with thrifted fabric I always surprise myself by enjoying a show like this. There are bargains to be had though and there's always such a buzz of excitement in the air.

It was an amazing show! I loved the muted colours of felt on that first stall - I picked up the purple/green roll to play with!

Enjoy sewing and your new scissors and new materials. I look forward seeing what you will make out of everything. Stick to wearing dresses. They are my favorite.
I do love wearing dresses and skirts.. especially 1950's style ones! The big scissors I got after I did the cutting challenge are brilliant...they work so well. However I also bought a new pair of embroidery scissors from another place and they haven' been very good I'm afraid... I've since had to get another pair. I wish I'd managed to try them out first.

Thank you for this lovely video tour of the Sewing for Pleasure Show! So many incredibly talented textile artists! I very much enjoyed your chats with the vendors and it was wonderful to see the variety of the beautiful textiles and activities on offer. You came home with some lovely fabrics and threads which I look forward to seeing in future videos. I'm very curious about that flexible tape measure and the ring cutter, so I hope you will show us how those work as well. Thank you for the excursion to the craft show, which I loved. It is very similar to the concept we have here in Australia. I adore the vintage flowers at the thread painting stall and had to comment. Now I shall continue viewing with you and your friends. By the way, those scissors look amazing!!!!❤

My favourites had to be Stitch n Stuff (I have bought a couple of embroideries off this lady and she was so helpful too at our last Craft and Quilt fair in Sydney. I drove 600km to see it. My children are down in Sydney too. The other favourite has to be Sarah Findlay oh my goodness! Your perle cottons beautiful! You have some great buys there and it was just as exciting for me to see all the lovely fabrics, quilts, embroidery thread and additions all those beautiful trims!! Hope you had a good time there. How grand that someone recognized you, fabulous! What an interesting show, with so many different sellers. I made the same Tilda quilt and I love it.
Did you make it with all the little background squares too? I really love the design and I've never made a quilt with plain fabric before, but I was thinking of making up the flower part and appliqueing it on instead 🤔
Marion, I purchased the kit with fabric and completed with each square. It did take time to cut fabric but I used the Stripology Rule and it was a winner. I'm not an appliquér but you are a superstar with appliqué, it will give it a completely different look. If you use appliqué I'm sure you know you do not have enough background fabric, but knowing you, yours will come out beautiful, however you make it. I love working with solids, it's my go to fabric. Love your channel and how sweet and calm you show us how to create your art. @@marionsworld24

Hope by now you have recovered after a long day at the NEC. I live in Bedfordshire so not that far really from Birmingham. My husband wouldn't drive me there, these days he only drives close to home. Perhaps I can find someone to take me or see if I can find a coach trip there. Looking forward to your next video. You always come up with something I haven't thought of!!! 😅🤔
Oh, this was great fun! I wish I had access to some of these vendors here in the US. I used to drive 400 miles round-trip to Atlanta to the Sewing Expos before Covid, and loved all the fabrics, but there were fewer booths for hand work than you saw at this show. Thank you very much for sharing this.

Hi Marion Glad you had a great day, I went on Saturday, your right there was so much to see. The stall with the dragon on I bought a beautiful badger and bear. I'm very much a novice film maker 😊 I had so much footage where I spoke to people but my camera was wandering off and I ended up with just their ear in the frame 🤣

There’s nothing like this near me in South Wales. There are very few sewing and knitting shops. The yarns, silks and fabrics were making my mouth water!
I don't know where you are but I'll be going to Wonderwool In Wales in April. It will be my first time there and I'm looking forward to it.

Oooh, that Tilda quilt.... ❤ I'm using some Tilda prints in a quilt atm - they are yummy. But that quilt made with the solids is soooo gorgeous. Enjoy making it, Marion. The recipient will be over the moon❤
