- Holden (Ben Affleck) needs advice, and surprisingly, Silent Bob (Kevin Smith) has a few words to say about chasing Amy.
In this scene: Holden McNeil (Ben Affleck), Silent Bob (Kevin Smith), Jay (Jason Mewes)
About Chasing Amy:
Holden McNeil is a New Jersey comic book writer who is roommates with his best friend and professional partner, artist Banky Edwards. Their hit comic book series, "Bluntman and Chronic," is loosely patterned after a pair of acquaintances, Jay and Silent Bob. Alyssa Jones, a lesbian and fellow comic book creator, comes into Holden’s life and quickly becomes a close friend, although Holden is powerfully attracted to her. Eventually, Alyssa realizes that she is attracted to Holden as well and they begin a physical relationship, much to the consternation of Banky, whose ire over losing his best friend to a lesbian seems to border on romantic jealousy. After he learns something about Alyssa's sexual past, however, Holden's immature response to his new knowledge destroys both his romance with Alyssa and his friendship with Banky.
Starring, in alphabetical order: Joey Lauren Adams, Ben Affleck, Casey Affleck, Matt Damon, Jason Mewes, Kevin Smith

I just love how Jay is eating Several servings of plain sugar while Silent Bob's telling his story.
tk maz
The reason Jason is eating sugar is because hes jonesing. He used herion but at this time he stopped. When you stop using you urge for sugar.
I love how I've seen Chasing Amy like 5 times and never noticed this before. LOL.
@@raytorres8050 He was also high on coke though soooo.
@@raytorres8050 Funny enough, when he stopped using drugs, he kinda relapsed into snorting sugar. When you see him now, he had to have some of his nasal passage and upper mouth rebuilt because of how damaged everything got.
I thought it was something else growing up
That's a real story from Kevin's actual life.
He's such a brilliant dude.
Except it wasn't about a three way, it was about his girlfriend at the time (Joey Adams, who plays Alyssa) having been to like, Tahiti or something, while he never really left New Jersey. That made him feel insecure.
@@KennyRubenis Thailand, yeah.
We all have a story like that, too.
@@KennyRubenis Maybe that's the way he tells it these days, but I remember when he used to say Joey Adams was WAY more experienced in bed than him and it intimidated him.
This isn't the only part of Smith's life that's in his movies. In Chasing Amy, Holden and Banky's first successful comic is a black and white comic about their time working at at a store, the comic being called 37. Obviously, that's a reference to Clerks. Bluntman & Chronic is actually their second series which is less popular than 37 due to its immature humour, a reference to Mallrats.. There was actually a deleted scene with Steve-Dave and Walt from Mallrats openly telling them they hate it, even referencing the Stink Palm from Mallrats. (link to deleted scenes: ua-cam.com/video/mtmhdo2oRLQ/v-deo.html)
In Dogma, Bethany's lack of faith was actually a reflection of Smith questioning his own faith in his early 20s. A priest told him an analogy about faith being like a glass of water that gets bigger and needs more liquid to fill it the older a person gets. This was said by Liz in the movie.
Kevin Smith’s dialogue is so natural yet impactful. I can’t describe it that well. But it sounds like you and your buddies talking, but the conversation is about the meaning of life. With some cussing thrown in to add light realism
Kevin smith is one of the most talented writers out there tbh. Witty, natural, amazing dialogue in his movies. He doesnt get as much credit because of how ridiculous the movies can he he directs but really to me he’s talented like tarantino in this respect
Thats one of the things he can do i think when he writes if he gets an idea he will write it exactly how he thought about it. Very cool guy
It sounds like he is telling the lines he wrote, is not that weird.
Add to that he is a pretty decent actor.
I've noticed that Ben Affleck has does some of his best work in Kevin Smith movies. They need to reunite again soon!
Jersey Girl 2
@@rejachemno 😆 He's such a tool.
Your in luck
2 years later you got your wish with Jay and SIlent Bob reboot. :)
Rahshigey you're*
Scenes like this show how genuine and real Kevin and Jason's friendship is. Nobody has this chemistry and understanding of each other's shit like these guys.
abuda gupta you realize they are working on a Jay and Silent Bob reboot as we speak right? Gonna be awesome
@nikola zazzoslki that was like 03 lol
@nikola zazzoslki they had a slight falling out because Jason was living with Kevin while he was trying to get clean. Kevin told him if he used again he was done, which he did, so Kevin kicked him out and cut him off. A while after Jason actually ended up getting clean and apologized to Kevin and they are back to being best boys
@nikola zazzoslki How is 2002 these days? Nice?
Yeah, kevin is the power bottom in this movie. In strike back jay was the power bottom.
I love Bob's silent and intimidating "do something" when Jay knocks into him at 2:12
Every best friends relationship in America boils down to a phrase and a moment..."Do Somethin"
I don't get it. What r u talking about??
@@alldogsgoheaven jay gives bob an "intimidating" jolt. bob doesn't flinch because he knows they are friends. jay wouldn't actually hurt bob, so bob just plays it cool like other buddies in america do.
@Salvador Dalí I think u commented on the wrong thread bro. What r u all mad about??
For real though... Kevin Smith's acting in this scene is solid. Fantastic actually.
I feel he is silent most of the time because he is directing so much its hard to critique your self in your own film. Thus his dry performance in this.... ok director terrable actor
Curtis Lowery disagree, great speech here by Bob/Smith.
The comedy mixed in with real life perspectives really makes things relatable and enjoyable. Kevin Smith is a master of his craft.
He looks like a dbag
I like that even though all of Kevin Smith's movies take place in the universe they all have a very different tone. Clerks felt very much like a documentary. Mall Rats felt like a raunchy 80's comedy, Chasing Amy was the most grounded and realstic almost feeling like an drama. Dogma was a supernatural and religious spoof. And Jay and Silent Bob strike back was the most cartoonish, almost an R rated Looney Tunes. Allowing Smith to do something different but similar all at the same time. Love his universe.
Love the old Kevin Smith flicks. Each one a precious gem.
If she cheated on you while you were going out get rid of her. But a persons past is the past. Appreciate what you have in front of you. Know in your heart she picked you and you picked her.
"Bitch, what you don't know about me I can pretty much squeeze into the Grand-fucking-Canyon" love it
Jay ordered bagels. They brought them. He ate sugar instead
That was actually his daily coke break. The bagels were for after.
Those are the same bagels from Dogma I believe same diner too probably
@@XxOmegaslayerxX all of Kevin Smiths films are set in the same universe called the View Akinsverse
I love Holden's reaction by the end of the story. It's like Silent Bob had every single answer he was looking for by the end of it. This scene is amazing.
Love this scene so much. Especially the bit where Jay accuses of Bob of deliberately trying to make what he says more impactful by almost always being silent. His brutal honesty brings the whole thing so completely down to earth.
Damn. This is a relatable ass scene.
Lol
Cuuuuck
Jay looking at Bob after he said “I felt small..” so damn funny!
This lesson is very true my wife had way more experiences than I and I felt this exact way too but thankfully I saw this movie right around the time I found out everything so instead of hurting her for things that happened long before we realized we cared for each other I focused on us and just tried to make the time we spend together as memorable as possible cuz at the end of the day she’s with me because she doesn’t want any of that stuff anymore she wants me and for me to love and accept her the way she loves and accepts me. We’re going on 6 years strong now and I couldn’t be happier.
Omega Animations I'm glad it worked out for you.
Translation: my wife rode the cock carousel with countless men and after having her fun she is ready to "settle down" with some unfortunate provider like me so I can be her janitor and mop up her shit life.

Jay eating sugar while Bob Narrates 😂😂😂
He's on heroin. He was using when filming this scene.
You missed the best part where Jay just shits on the entire story.
And the fact that no one really gave a f*ck about Silent Bob's story.
@@boogiedull OH WOW LOL
People don't say it often but I think this is Kevin Smith's best acting performance.
I really like this scene, particularly how the cigarette changes size, then just flat disappears.
Chasing Amy is such a well written well acted funny dramatic comedy and Kevin Smith doesn't get the credit he deserves for any of his films and that's a shame because he's a terrific filmmaker.
I love that undertoned, "do something".😂❤
Chasing Amy was peak Kevin Smith, even Silent Bob was a gigachad in this movie.
So this so real footage of Ben Afflecks marriage counselling lol
I love that they have the old diner jukeboxes in the background.
Bob had more lines in Jay in this movie.
mariogamefreak1 my name is Jay Fleming I love this movie is very good video chat with me okay my email address is Spider-Man@gmail.com I
@@jayfleming2425 did the video chat happen? I need to know.
Drakijy +1
Bet jay did more lines than bob though
Jay Fleming and Mario video chatted, went ass to mouth, then Mario looked Jay in the eyes and said "its over". So every day since then Jay has been chasing Mario...So to speak.
"You can always tell that chasing Amy story or 'hey those are some good cheese fries'"
Man, these movies were very entertaining. I remember just feeling lucky whenever I got to watch one of these movies, they were such a treat.
I’ve been chasing Amy for years
Ive been chasing her too
Mark Wilken you mean chasing Jamie?
For me I'm Chasing Rachel
You been chasing the dragon more like
I still haven’t found Amy Probably never will ether
Been here. Crazy how sometimes we think things and funny how we believe we are the only ones.
what a scene
Cut before Jay drops one of the greatest, most profound lines of all time. “The world has one bitch... one bitch with many faces.”
Silent Bob can talks, he just chooses to be silent most of the time. Silent Bob is not a mute. There's a difference between a silent type and a mute.
As a guy I'm gonna tell the truth. Holden isn't upset that Alicia Jones did all that shit. He's pissed off she did it without him.
Twenty years after this movie, David Fincher showed the world that Affleck is still Chasing Amy.
This is probably the best Batman ever
Yep. Now he is chasing Joker.
I forgot I remembered this scene. Such a great monologue.
Ah....I miss the 90's :(
Did you know I always wanted be a dancer in Vegas?!? 😂
So ironic how the director that makes the most interesting conversations is the silent one in his movies. Irs like he's telling HIS life and stories through his actors while he watches...like a movie!
I always loved how Jay calls Bob out before he even gives his speech
Great scene
Ahhh the 90s where you could still smoke indoors.
haha Silent Bob's Amy should like when kids say they had a girlfriend over the summer and they met them at camp that's far away from home and their friends are like "righhhhht, ... Bullshit!" ... honestly, I love this scene! I love this movie period!
Such a glorious movie
That Batman foreshadowing though.....
Saying the name of the movie almost at the end of the movie is TIGHT!
It’s also super easy, barely an inconvenience.
@@mr.flitch4287 or is getting over your girlfriends past super easy barely an inconvenience.!
I bet you didn’t know I wanted to be a dancer *jazz hands* Classic cinema!
2:11 'do something' 😂
"Now that is what they call a Shared Moment" lol
lotta truth in this monologue
Glad Jay and Silent Bob Reboot made a nice call back to this
Love that movie.
Good movie.
I miss being able to smoke at the diner
I miss being able to smoke period. It's kind of tough with the valve in my trachea, and single lung now.

The dumb thing is it’s like the words flew over holdens head and then just winds up screwing up his relationship with Alyssa
Best
I chased Amy once, fuck it hurt me more than ever after that.
Thank you silent bob 😥
God I need a smoke
Why does kevin Smith remind me of Ryan Dunn in this scene?
daysErlock the face and the beard
Oh and the hair
And the movie Haggard.
so true =(
Wish Miramax would join movies anywhere.
I eat sugar like that when no one is paying attention! Truth. Silent Bob wrote this brilliant monologue first!
I like Jay & silent bob movies
Bruh it feels good to see a movie use a blunt as a prop rather than a joint,
Blunts out do joints over 9000
That’s pretty deep
Brilliant use of smoking and the way he puffed at the end
But if Bob had stayed with Amy he wouldn't have been there to help save the universe and we all would have been screwed.
this scene cuts to the bone man
we all jst chasing Amy now now..😊☺🙂😌🙁☹😦😧😔😭😭😭
Do something!
This shit hits too hard Kevin
pay attention to whats on the table and the cigarette in bobs hand, multiple takes were taken here
What's the instrumental piece that plays in the background while Bob tells his story?
So to speak
I see why this is a movie now
There's a hundred dollar bill in the middle of an intersection...
Oh i get it. Jay talks a lot of shit to silent bob.......only because bob lets him. The silent one can dish out the verbal pain too.
Just don’t tell me about your ex and I’ll never ask
Haha! Yo Flo! Tell Mel too whip me up a toasted bagel with cream cheese! You want one? Make that 2 and kiss my grit's mooch!
Kevin says he can't act???? Yeah fucking right! It's RIGHT THERE.
Fucking legend
Girls like the chase
Wow, smoking in restaurants. Probably a year or two before the ban kicked in
Tell'em Stevedave!
