am struck by the pure joy of the video, the great sax break, where Springsteen and the Big Man are united, a moment of brotherhood and love. Beautiful and moving.
Thanks for the magic, Clarence. Wish I could say how much you and Bruce meant to me all these years, but in a real way you have become part of my life. We're pulling for you, my friend. God Bless.
My eyes get teary watching Clarence's solo. I am so happy and feel blessed I actually got to see him live once in my life. His death made me realize that you need to do all those things you want to do asap. Things change.
Mike Roby totally, but there's a small group of songs that are just beyond that, idk how to explain this, but this song has helped me go through some hard times it's really meaningful to me
I was about your age when i started to realise that bruce springsteen is the best of the best! You cant find anyone like him these days! A living legend! Im 16 btw:)
we all need a time tunnel...I was lucky to see him in Feb 1975 for $5 at the Syria Mosque in Pittsburgh...college days. rocktourdatabase.com/concerts/bruce-springsteen-e-street-band-160
I was 23 then; hopefully your aunts and uncles saw him live, then. A master story teller. His concerts always ran into overtime. I hope you get a chance to see him today
Miss him too. My last concert 2016 in Munich was REALLY great, but Clarence Clemens was missed by my friends and me. I admire Bruce for still going on. Playing and rocking for nearly 3 hours without break. There's a Rock'n Roll fever burning in him. 👌👍💞
In the summer of 1985, my friends and I lined up for tickets, for what we thought would be a couple of nights. 7 nights later, we had our front row seats, for a stadium show before 60,000 people. I was singing my heart out, along with Bruce. At the end of Promised Land, Bruce looks me straight in the eyes and tosses his harmonica right into my hands. It was a glorious night. RIP Big Man... it will never be the same.
Even though I`ve seen Bruce videos several thousand times, and been to alot of concerts, it keeps surprising me that such a big artist like Bruce would share the spotlight with The Big Man. Most big artists "hide" their band away. IMO that`s one of the most important reasons that Bruce is the greatest
He makes me wish I was born 30 years earlier. I've been listening to him for as long as I can remember, and he and Clarence Clemons are a big part of why I became a musician. Go Bruce and the E Street Band!!
This song single handedly helped get over a very uggly break up with my Ex and allow myself to give this new girl a shot who seems itching for something to start. Can't say how great this feels.
+ramblin man Backstreets helped me get over a bad break up. Bruce writes from experience and its great. This song always was about restlessness in a dead-end town. Finding somebody itching for something to start was always about fighting to me. I remember before I dropped out of college and went in the military walking around the town late at night just hoping somebody would step up so I could let it all out on them.
I was a teenager when I first heard "Promised Land." It summed up completely what it was like growing up in small town America then and will also strike me to my core when the "dark clouds" start to rise again. Beautiful.
Man, when Bruce is watching Clarence playing it just hit me how much these guys must love each other, they aren't just "good friends" they are a family. Its a relationship that few will ever experience and being 18 its one i definiltey haven't. It's just unreal to think they have been doing this for more than double the time i have been on this planet. Incredible.
yeah this is it,this is what i was looking for,the best version of this song, what this band did on the '78 tour is phenomenal,i'm not talking about the four hour shows but how good they sound.
Not too many bands or performers could've taken on Bruce at this point.I'm into all sorts of music and for the last 20 years I reckon I've seen some cracking performers.Bruce's performances and many of his songs are just so much deeper and he's proven recently he can still pen a damn good song.
"Sometimes I feel so weak, I wanna explode! Explode and tear this whole town apart! Take a knife and cut this PAIN from my heart!" You're not alone, Bruce. Amazing lyrics!
What a way of meeting people and get to see their talent. At first was reluctant being on youtube, but getting to do this has brought me into the houses of some very special people. You are one of them. Life; isn't it wonderful! Keep up the good work. Hope You Are Having A Splendid Day!
wow they played it must faster back in their younger years. I cant tell if I like their current slower performance or this souped up up-tempo version... both so good!
I couldn't have said it any better myself. This is one of the main reasons I watch this video. It really shows how infatuated they are with one another. It blows my mind. It hurts.
I think the 2002 Barcelona performance of this song is more polished but the chemistry between the folks on stage is more evident on this song than any other E- Street song I've yet to see. Beautiful to watch and listen.
I hope they can play until Bruce is about 70. After that I look forward to him playing with a Martin guitar, maybe piano, with Patti backing up the vocals.

No one should ever deny the healing and consoling power of rock-and-roll music.
man, that's a one in a million statement, seriously! Full agreement ;-)
Thank you for the comment.
Damn Right!
Mike Roby totally, but there's a small group of songs that are just beyond that, idk how to explain this, but this song has helped me go through some hard times it's really meaningful to me
i think it's not rock and roll for everyone. for some it may be techno, for some hip hop. but indeed: ones favorite music has a healing power.
I was about your age when i started to realise that bruce springsteen is the best of the best! You cant find anyone like him these days! A living legend! Im 16 btw:)
The entire album, Darkness on the Edge of Town, is Bruce's masterpiece.
yes
ftsjr It's certainly one of them
+ftsjr One of many masterpieces by The Boss.
agreed
agree
Im 28 years old in 2018 but id do almost anything to see Springsteen back in 1978. Almost ANYTHING..

69 years old and I agree, but I remember that many shows from the 70's
YES I BELIEVE!!!!! Thanks for the memories....
Big Man is so amazing..Brings a little tear to the eye..I miss him..

God bless you Clarence Clemons. Thank You for the wonderful music.
The Greatest Artist of Any Generation
Look at the connection between Bruce and Clarence. It's just love - love for each other and for the music. Inspiring.
I saw him on this tour in San Diego. I was up front on the floor and shook his hand. It was awesome!!
This is beautiful. That kind of chemistry cannot be faked...it's so real it's palpable...love the Big Man and Bruce.
This is a classic rock and roll song from one of the best rock albums ever made
Ah… The Promised Land… one day we’ll get there. Keep the faith. Thanks for sharing
The boss is the best !! Love this song !!
wonderful, many thanks - we were all wondering what was to come after BtR - from the opening bars of the new album it felt OK
Even though I`ve seen Bruce videos several thousand times, and been to alot of concerts, it keeps surprising me that such a big artist like Bruce would share the spotlight with The Big Man. I love Bruce Springsteen. How much? I still love him when he goes from ridiculous guitar solo into a saxophone solo. That is how much I love the Boss.
He's having so much fun, especially during the sax solo!
This couldn't be that much after the song was released.
So fresh
The enthusiasm - it's as if it's the first time he's ever performed the song!
Che bella canzone Bruce the promise!! Tu e clarence mitici!! 😀😀😀💓💓💓💎💎💎😘😘😇😇👏💗😍
one of the top five all time songs from anyone
ロックのルーツブルースカッコよ過ぎます。どんな栄養ドリンクより元気回復します。
God, it seems like a hundred years ago! Good as ever. Rock on!
This is beautiful. Real music. The boss is incredible.
He makes me wish I was born 30 years earlier. I've been listening to him for as long as I can remember, and he and Clarence Clemons are a big part of why I became a musician. Go Bruce and the E Street Band!!
Awesome. Springsteen is one of the few artists that sound as good live (sometimes better) as he does on record. That's why he's The Boss.
this men really rocks !!
This version is great. One of my most favorite songs.
This version for me is absolutely the best!
Sono d'accordo.Sempre Grande il nostro Bruce.

+Tiziana Lelii Comunque, anche se non c'entra niente, e forse sei troppo giovane: Spandau o Duran?
This song single handedly helped get over a very uggly break up with my Ex and allow myself to give this new girl a shot who seems itching for something to start.

+TBL-TTB This song is about rejuvenation of life. Sometimes in moments of sadness, E Street is a huge help. All the best, brother.
Never ever go down with out a fight. Keep the faith my friend!
Song that made me a Bruce fan forever!
No denial - "Darkness" was a GREATPiece!!!
new jerseys own favorite son does his state proud here
Best natural, authentic artistic expression I've ever witnessed...
I was a teenager when I first heard "Promised Land." It summed up completely what it was like growing up in small town America then and will also strike me to my core when the "dark clouds" start to rise again. Beautiful.
This was a great vid. Thanks.
To Brazil! Bruce representa o que os USA tem de melhor!!!
Happy Birthday Bruce! Still gives his listeners a "Reason to Believe"...

But there are few solos that send as many shivers down the spine as this one!

this.. this is music.. BRUCE FUCKING SPRINGSTEEN AND THE E STREET BAND!!
wow they played it must faster back in their younger years. I cant tell if I like their current slower performance or this souped up up-tempo version... both so good!
This one worked so well on stage, better than the album. Darkness was a great record all the same...
So nice a song.... Did anyone notice the throw away and replace of the harmonica at 0:30 ???
Good catch. He switched keys.
this is his best live performance of this tune. the only one i've seen him swap out hermonica's
He'll never write a better song than this.
I couldn't have said it any better myself. This is one of the main reasons I watch this video. It really shows how infatuated they are with one another. It blows my mind. It hurts.
Hoping to do that tonight in Toronto!
bruce kills it on the harmonica in this video
amen!
RIP-Clarence you will not be forgotten.
Great sax solo

are you joking? the rising was epic and magic is right up there, he is still writing classics

@xIIJoshIIx Awesome comment. Great observation gives me chills.
Please watch from 2:50 to 3:31 the way bruce is connected to clarance. look how moved he is.
how the hell could anyone give this a thumbs down? Seriously?
Killer solo by Little Steve.
Big Man MADE that band.
I can't think of a better way to visit America than to visit the home of the boss #blindedbythelight
repost of a comment on the born to run video
wow!
I personally prefer this version, but Passaic is awesome too!
Something money cant buy
Dont give up. Even when its shittest. Maybe you cant get to the pinnacle but dont give up. Thats what matters.
We cant always do our best but keep trying. Keep faith. Thats what life is about
SPEAKING OF MAJOR SAX APPEAL!! BIG MAN!!
@kentuckyfirst Some of Bruce's best words ever
Bono and Jon Bon jovi were influenced by the Boss. Bono doesn't have that charm anymore. But the boss has still got it
nota 1000
Bad quality? What are you nuts? The sound quality is awesome and the video is almost 30 years old, whatya expect, digital HD?
I hope they can play until Bruce is about 70. After that I look forward to him playing with a Martin guitar, maybe piano, with Patti backing up the vocals.
this the only video i've come across where bruce changes harmonica/key. his best live rendition
8 people ain't getting to the promised land because they ain't got the faith to stand their ground.
