- Tonight I am joined by Mark and Ray from ICOM to talk about the Multi-Use Radio Service and how it lines up with your communication planning. MURS Radio is a license free service that offers features above that of FRS and GMRS that you should consider when planning for emergencies, going outdoors or a simple day trip with family and friends.

I have a pair of Retevis BR17V MURS radios. They are great for giving to non-hams. Simple to use. Nice solid radios for the price. 4000mAh battery.
Has there even been any talks about extended MURS channels and watts? Like a VHF version of GMRS.
“Take a dump in the creek, in the water”, not gonna lie......I laughed
Nice video Josh. I can’t wait for mine to arrive. I feel like a kid on Christmas mornin.
Keep up the terrific work!
Larry
I don’t have any icom radios personally, but the hts we use at work seem rock solid, which looks like the ones shown. Idon’t know how many times I have dropped that thing.
Love my IC-V10MR. Use these with Dakota Alert base station and alert transmitter as well as Wouxun 1000M base station for communication around the property.
If the radio could squak a basic CW ID per radio "man down" that could be a good way to know what radio set off the alarm
“Man down” application - My son lost his FRS radio in the woods. He had it clipped on his pants and it came off while playing. He had no idea where, naturally, because he’s 8 years old. With a “man down” feature (the man being a radio in this case) we probably would have found the radio. -KE0VIM
Good use case.
You could use another that has the "calling" sounds. Trigger it while walking around listening for the sound.
@@0150r We tried. My son didn’t realized he’d lost the radio until it was dead.
Walmart stores use MURS.
Market MURS to the same people GMRS is being marketed to. Add a mobile and some good antenna options and it may compete. All non licensed.
MURS like CB is excellent except for the power limitations. My villages radio clubencourages MURS and GMRS for the community members who are not Hams.
Excellent video. I've been exploring MURS (along with GMRS) as another tool in the box when friends who aren't Hams need comms. Had no idea Icom made MURS radios, they need more marketing for them. Are the V3MR and V10MR manufactured in Japan or China?
My V10MR is stamped made in Japan. iCom says anything marked china is counterfeit.
@@04shifty Yes, MIJ, and excellent HTs for around the property
Strange Question - But I like to get some help from yourself in regards to my two young sons live thier mother about 5miles away and i thought after watching your videos that you could help me get a cheap set up going not only in my own home but my ex-wifes so me and my boys can talk and play over the radio. I would a receiver set up in my own home and a hand held for the boys that is easy to use. what do you recommand - UK
I really like MURS radio myself except nobody at Walmart seems to be using one of the frequencies and that's all I hear I've got mine on all the time scanning all five channels and not a word from anyone out there so I am monitoring I just don't hear anything since I live in Southeast Wisconsin that probably explains why most people don't use this serviceeither they never heard of it or they just don't wanna try it out
12v charging might be nice for some in an emergency, but USB-C is a requirement for all my future radios.
The FCC may never announce a real emergency lol. Don’t interfere with other people’s coms, but don’t wait to do what you know to do. Having a coms band plan solves many issues.
Wow
80s people recognize the shirt.
Keen eyes sir.
Howdy Josh from Orlando, FL
Love my Orlando friends. Thanks for watching.
You did an hour and 5 min on a sixteen channel MURS HT. Three years ago you did an hour and 50 min on the IC-7300. You could have covered that MURS radio in 20 min max, but most of the video was a marketing commercial by Icom. I miss the older videos when it seemed you were just you, and not beholding to a manufacturer. That being said...I will probably buy a couple of the damned things...
LOL. I don’t see it as I don’t do things the way I did in the past anymore. I see it is I have the opportunity to do many additional things now. Which I try to do in balance.
I personally thought the features for these radios were super cool.
Ray is awesome!
The ICOM guy is wrong about the emergency idea - very wrong.
No one should be required a license to speak
You're not, go talk to someone outside. If you want to amplify your signal and use amatuer radio, you should at least be able to show a little understanding of how it works.
So Josh sold out to icom I guess
I guess so. I picked up Hamcation and they sponsor our efforts. And I’m always happy to talk about cool rf stuff.
