    I am Tom Saguto, PGA Member and founder of SagutoGolf. Thank you for visiting my instructional page where you can find how to get on the fast track to improving your golfing abilities. Whether you are a seasoned golfing veteran looking for a quick swing tune-up after an on-course emergency, or a beginner just looking to get the most out of your golfing experience, I am here to help you achieve your golfing goals.
    My mission as your swing doctor is simple, to help you maximize your enjoyment in game of golf. Because, let’s face it, golf is a hard game.
    My philosophy is wholly based on the student having a fun, meaningful experience in a frustrating and complicated game where potential lifelong golfers either quit because it is too difficult or that they experience some form of swing-related pain or discomfort. I mitigate these problems by focusing entirely on the student’s needs and goals while teaching a golf swing method that ultimately takes stress off of the common pain areas of the swing.

    After viewing god-knows-how-many videos and taking a number of lessons, the shoulder down method is probably one of the best pieces of information that has improved my game to take the divot in front of the ball. Couple that with cupping the lead wrist (knuckles down) for shaft lean and left elbow glued to the body on the down swing, presto, low scores. Thank you!

      @@SagutoGolf Tom I had to laugh. It was like one of your videos were some poor sod is struggling further down the line while you crisping your way. I was hitting balls on the range and there was a lesson going on before I got there. Poor buddy was chewing on chunk burgers . Thise burhers must have been tough to make because he was sweating so much trying to crush the ball. His instructor just moved him to where I was out of his sight. It was obvious that he was having problems transitioning from position 17 to 18......

    Tom, tilt in the backswing has been my achilles heel... such an underrated move for amateur golfers. It is a necessity!

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  3 місяці тому

      It's not so much underrated as it is under-mentioned, and as a result widely accepted "conventional" instruction - such as taking the club straight back, turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the club, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, firing the hips, actively hinging the wrists and rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). I’m doing my best here to clear these up, put an end to the madness, and get folks on the path towards consistently crispy, powerful, body-friendly ball striking bliss.
      So yes - tilting is a necessity!!

    You have created a lot of issues for me with my golf game. I started golfing last year with 3 of my buddies who had never really golfed either. We play together almost every weekend. We are super competitive and talk a lot of trash to each other even though we were scoring around 110-120 ea for a round. I came across your videos while desperately trying to improve because I am super competitive. Your videos made me compress the ball a bit better and i loved that I was hitting my clubs about 15 yards further ea and it sounded crispy and delicious. So I bought a membership to your online golf school and bought a net for the back yard and dove into changing my swing. So here is my problem. My buddies are still shooting around 110 and now I am shooting around 80-85. They are no longer enjoying golfing with me because I am so much better than them. So my dilemma is do I turn them on to your golf videos or do I continue to stomp them on the course without them knowing why. 🤔 These are golf issue I didn't know I could have.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  3 роки тому +4

      Nice "dilemma".......😂😂😂😂😂😂
      If they are no longer enjoying golfing with you then your days of stomping them are likely numbered. Reveal your secret and get them enrolled in my online school for just $10/month or $99/year - a small fraction of what they are probably coughing up to you with each subsequent thrashing. You'll still have a huge head start on them, and ultimately at least you'll gain the satisfaction of beating more worthy competition rather than this growing emptiness of stealing candy from babies... 😎

      This body-friendly, powerful, consistent, low-maintenance swing system is designed to provide a lifetime of great ball striking, and since it is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology it does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to seniors and everything in between, and inclusive of the best players in the world. I give all credit where it is due - including Andy Plummer and Mike Bennett for analyzing and interpreting the science, and to those who preceded them with their empirical observations of the game's best ball strikers and all their subsequent chalkboard number-crunching. I just do my best to take what they have built and convey it in my own simplified teaching style (which is fully on display in the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of my online school - saguto.golf ).

I hit it higher but mostly longer. I think there's alot of misconceptions about weight transfer.... I was shifting weight to my bavkfoot early on the backswing. U taught me timing of weight transfer was commonly miscocieved and it I should only load on the backfoot at the tippy top... idk how u did it, but thanks again

      Sadly, many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings of "conventional" instruction - such as turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the club, shifting into- and torquing against - a firm trail side, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). There are a few possible causes for hitting the ball too low, and without actually seeing your swing and ball flight it is impossible for me to offer an accurate diagnosis and fix. In this regard, if you'd like to we can arrange for a V1Swing Video Analysis. The process involves downloading the free V1 app and then submitting two videos to me through the app - one down-the-line (captured from your stance line, not the target line) and the other face-on. You'll find more information about the V1 Analysis halfway down this page on the Saguto.Golf site: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolf
      Perhaps you might also wish to consider enrolling in the online school? For just $10 US/month or $99 US/year it'll get you on the fast track to owning this swing through succinct, step-by-step videos. Additionally, there is an abundance of content aimed at resolving a variety of swing flaws and ball flight issues. Here's a link if you'd like more info: saguto.golf/p/golf-swing-simplified-tom-saguto-pga.
      It's not my intent to "sell" you on anything. These are simply my best available options - aside from an online private lesson - to help you achieve your desired ball flight while also putting you on the path towards consistent ball striking bliss!
      I hope to see you there!

    Tom, you changed the way I hit crush a golf ball. I utilize every aspect of your swing except one, I Start in a single plane, hands up. When you start in the single plane setup, your swing makes it the perfect swing, I've gone from a 12, to a 4 handicap. Try it, try it, try it.

      That's fantastic, Drew - I'm thrilled for your dramatic improvement, and I'm very glad to know that my instruction played some role in the process!!
      While the Stack and Tilt swing I teach shares the single plane feature, it is definitely different from the "Single Plane" (Moe Norman) version and for this reason I do not recommend crisscrossing between the two methods as it would certainly lend itself to confusion. This should not be construed as a knock against Mr. Norman's renowned ball striking prowess or the style of instruction that he inspired; it's simply that components of his swing style are not compatible with S&T. So typically my suggestion to those who are weighing these two methods is to choose one or the other, but not both! Having said that, if you have developed a hybrid method that serves you well, then I'd say keep doing what you're doing!
      Keep up the great playing and have fun out there!!

      I'm very glad to learn of your improvement, Charles! 💪💪
      Your shanks can be the result of a variety of actions: 1) You may be too steep on the downswing and thereby exposing the hosel to the ball; 2) Conversely, your downswing path may be too in to out; 3) You may be rolling the face open during the backswing; 4) Your wrists may not be hinging properly; 5) You are setting up with the ball positioned at the heel of the club; 6) More... In other words, there are a number of potential causes, and without actually seeing your swing it's impossible for me to identify the culprit behind those hosel rockets. However, those are a few of the common ones, and video may help you to self-diagnose.

    yes. your, swing is seriously good. the simple fact is that a player needs to get into a level left position at the top. and, a vertical line can be drawn down you back at the top- as is the case with all top players. a great exercise to help players to get into position at the top is to stand in a slightly raised position, hold the club out to your left and put your right hand on the club as you swing back. you can feel your left side working itself into position as you swing back. but, looking closely at your swing it is interesting that the main part of you turn is the second half of your backswing, when the club crosses over to the target side of the hands; and, this proves that pressure on the ground, with the left foot, helps the body to turn as a player gets towards the top of the backswing.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  3 роки тому +1

      Indeed, that gradually increasing pressure into the lead leg - with the knee bending straight down in its pre-established outwardly-flared orientation - is a key component in facilitating a full and stress-free turn.
      Thanks for your kind words and excellent analysis!

    • @SagutoGolf

      Hi Michael,
      In the backswing the lead knee always works down in the direction established at address - which should be slightly flared outward towards the target. This keeps the weight forward and the swing center intact. Any inward movement of the lead knee will shift the center and low point backwards. This can lead to inconsistency and may also cause some discomfort to the knee.

      You might want to experiment with adjusting your ball position with the wedges. Toe hits are oftentimes the result if impact occurs after the downswing path has begun its journey back to the inside. Try moving the ball position back a little with these clubs - perhaps around the middle of your stance. Make small incremental tweaks and monitor the results.

    Hey Tom, I am a subscriber to your website. I'm loving the content and slowly working through the main course. The only problem I Have with stack and tilt is MASSIVELY hooking/extreme pulling, especially on my drives. • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  3 роки тому +1

      Hi @Theophilus,
      I'm glad to learn of the success you are experiencing in the school!
      Oftentimes when golfers are hitting everything well except for the longer clubs it can be attributed to one of the following:
      1) They don't start with - or maintain - enough weight on the front side. In general with the longer clubs we should add a little more front weight load at address - more like 60/40 instead of the 55/45 prescribed for the other clubs. This forward weight should gradually increase to the top of the backswing (70/30) and build further on the downswing - approximately 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish.
      2) Their hips are not continuing their lateral slide through impact. This is common with the longer clubs as the wider stance means that the hips have a greater distance to travel. If the hips stop moving laterally towards the target on the downswing then their rotation takes over, changing the low point and rerouting the club. This can produce a variety of undesirable results including fat and thin contact, topped shots and popups, straight pulls, and “banana” slices. You'll find some drills specific to this in the Downswing chapter of the school's Fixing Common Swing Problems section.
      3) They are not allowing the length of the club to dictate the backswing path and are getting too steep as a result. The shaft length of the longer clubs encourages more of an around the body backswing as established by the shaft plane at address. It may "feel" flat as you take it back along the shaft plane for the first few feet, but as long as you maintain the "weight forward, shoulder down, and hands in" components while allowing the club to work around you, it should put you in the proper position at the top so you can attack the ball from the inside.
      This is a common issue that I am regularly asked to fix, so if yours doesn't relate to any of the above causes - or if it does and you are experiencing difficulty resolving it - we can always arrange for an online lesson or a V1 swing video analysis to pinpoint the culprit and offer an appropriate solution.
      Keep up the great work and have fun out there!!

I was concentrating on "Hogan's Magic Elbow" which pulled my leading arm tight across my chest and put pressure on my leading shoulder (I had rotator cuff surgery last fall). I still do Hogan's Magic Elbow but it is in a more side-front position helping me keep the left arm off my chest putting less strain on my lead shoulder. My hands aren't as far back. Is this the same for driver? This seems more difficult with spine tilt at setup with driver.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Рік тому

      Yes - This swing key also applies to the driver, Todd. In fact, it is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some driving range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: ua-cam.com/video/o0xscMyN3v8/v-deo.html Beyond that, if you search the word "drive" on this channel you'll see some related content.
      I am aware that many folks out there believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver. However, consider that in our stock setup with the driver the hands are even with the inside of the lead thigh (as they are with all clubs when playing a standard shot) and our ball position is even with the inside of the heel of the lead foot. This presets a very slight degree of forward shaft lean with the driver. Beyond that, the ball is behind the zero-point of the swing (which is even with the lead shoulder), meaning that without any contrived manipulations the club will still be on its descent - albeit very close to flat - at impact.
      So, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or those Long Drive participants teeing it extra high and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - in general the path is still ever so slightly down. In fact, the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.5 degrees - nearly level - and it should feel level - but slightly down nonetheless. (Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws )
      For these reasons I do not advocate trying to hit up on the ball, and efforts to do so due to erroneous advice has caused many an amateur significant issues with their driver.
      Upon learning this swing properly you will be harnessing the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum". This is the reason my students and online school members of all age ranges end up bombing it farther than they ever had previously, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews.
