- 2003 Ram 2500 alternator guage started low, then bottomed out with the check gages light turning on about a half mile down the road. At first thought, my alternator went bad, after researching I found it could be the crossover cable.

Mine did the same thing. In my case the crossover cable was fine. The gremlin was the thru-bolt that clamps the cable to the driver side battery. That bolt was all fragged inside of the terminal. Outside it looked fine, but inside, not so much. Replaced the bolt. Cleaned ALL of the terminals very well. Put it all back together and I'm good now. Watch out for corrosion in the connectors that you can't see from the outside.

On my 06 I replaced all my cables. I upgraded all my cables on the positive as well as a negative to at least two art cables off the battery the battery the battery were one cable. I ran double cables from both sides made them up myself. I still had enough leftover to put a one cable from the alternator to the battery, I do not run 670 cranking batteries in my truck they’re worthless. You need to run a higher cranking amp batteries in your Dodge to spend that starter properly and for the electrical system to properly handle it. The batteries used to be running in your Dodge are. Odyssey these batteries have been in my truck for five years and they’ve never failed me to start my truck no matter how cold it is or how much of a load I put on them. They are the best batteries that you can buy for the money that might be expensive, but they last in the alternator, the voltage out of the alternator they will never fail and have a good warranty. I think mine were five year warranty when I bought.

My alternator wasn’t putting anything out probably went bad from over charging I tested it with a multi meter. My new alternator is putting out 18! When I have the passenger side battery hooked up but as soon as I take it out of the equation everything runs normal so it has to be my crossover wire connection. I get 18 volts at the terminal on the cross over wire at the driver side battery but it must not be taking it due to poor connection at the driver side battery.

Yeah man. Not to plug for anybody, but it was the Car Quest in town. Cat came out with a little tape measure and 5 minutes later I was headed home.

Ok so mine is doing that same issue over charging my passenger battery. And blew it up. I replaced The battery. And tested the voltage from my alternator. And it was reading 17 volts. I changed the wire from battery to battery and no luck. I changed the alternator. Again and. Still reading 17. So what do I do ?
My brother's truck had same problem and it slowed down and shut off
It did it again but it's fixed now but it's was SCARY!

My truck does not turn on the low beam on the driver's side, not the brake or the flashing light on the same side
I replaced the battery alternator oil pressure sensor. Drive for three day check gauges light came back on. WTH going on

question: how is the passenger side battery doing now ?. You had to replace it?
It's still holding up. I am getting some corrosion again. I have to figure out how to stop that nonsense.
@@Tieknee that's good to hear the batteries are still holding up👍. For stopping corrosion, I use dielectric grease and it seems to be working for me and I Only do a very thin layer over the terminals.
@@Tieknee You have to neutralize the corrison 1st. You can use white vinegar and get off all the green crud 1st before applying sparingly then you can scrub some more. Then use 70 percent rubbing alcohol to go over everything. Then use a electrical terminal protectant.

I’ve been running off driver side battery for like 6 yrs now , passenger battery completely out and disconnected from truck , my cage is just now having this problem wher it won’t charge any thoughts?

grate job my 2008 6.7 doing the same thing i replaced my autozon battery that lasted 9 years with batteries/bulbs. battries only been in truck 5 mounth. help.
yeah my 06 just did this but wouldnt start and both check gauges and parking brake light went on. i do see the voltage drop from one battery to the other so maybe its the calbe ill try the pos to pos and see if that works

When I first got my 5.9 the passenger battery started leaking so I changed both batteries just to be on the safe side and cleaned the terminals but then about a month later,the new battery for the passenger side started leaking again🤦♂️So just yesterday I got another battery but then I left it running at idle for awhile that evening and it still ended up leaking even tho it’s a new battery🤦♂️ you have any kind of info on what may be causing this problem?

Why don’t you upgrade to an agm battery
Would this also possibly cause the engine to lose power start shaking and knocking. I had these symptoms drove home then lost the power etc now won't start just clicks

My truck stopped charging, check gages light came on and off intermittently for a few days and then I lost my radio, lights went dim, abs light came on, truck would shift when it wasn’t supposed to and engine cut down to 3 cylinders. This is your problem I would think too? I know that the 5.9 cummins ECM needs minimum 11 volts to function properly so that why this is happening

How old are those batteries, they look orginal. Also on Diesel Trucks you should clean the terminals every now and then and spray the terminals with a battery cleaner. I got 276,645mi on my 07.5 and I've had to replace both batteries only one, cause a weak one will cause the good one to work harder trying to keep up. Those are the worst battery terminals and posts that I've seen. Little maintenance will go a long way so you don't have several things go bad because your to lazy to clean them up
Mine blew up 2 batteries I went to a salvage yard amd picked up all 4 cables in a harness I'm replacing all the cables as they aren't tighting uo on the batteries.
Don't forget to charge your batteries before you do this. Your alternator WILL NOT charge low battery levels.
I had that issue my grid heater relay solenoid was staying on causing a discharge

@@Tieknee it burned up a battery before i figured out the problem i changed alternator thinking it was going out the i saw the solenoids on the passenger side battery tray towards the bottom disconnecting and the discharge stopped put new ones on and no more problems

You need new terminals
