“That time we hit it good, let’s go look at it.” Umm.. look at what? It’s gone. I’m fairly confident that clay left this planet.
These videos make everyday better!
😆😆😆
I'd prefer the 3006 over any 270 I've owned and shot the 3006 , sold it my favorites are 300wm & the 338wm there the two best rifels and ammunition
Amen to that👍👍
@@jamesfarmer63 300wm is a beast but I prefer my little 243 or 30-30 for deer. I even took a deer with my ak a few years ago using Tula 154 grain sp.
30-06 won
I don't think a deer could tell between the two
You are probably right about that
Neither do the clay bars.
The best description between one hunting round and the other, is one will leave a smaller exit wound (i.e. more to bring home).
@@elphi4321 and the kick
I'm a 30-06 guy. That bullet has been used for 114 years! I dropped a deer at 100+ yards. Separated it's neck bones.
You used a 1,000yard bullet and wonder why you got a atomic result at 100yards. Hmm.... Ya....
MT- I didn't wonder why, I just said it works great on deer. Also, I was using iron sights.
Blasting clay blocks really demonstrates how much energy these projectiles transfer onto a target.. Pretty incredible..
Need bigger blocks..
I have taken many deer with both. They are both fine for deer. The 06 is down loaded in factory ammo due to the many older surplus rifles that are out there, but it can be hand loaded to be darn near nuclear powered capabilities.
I have a 30-06 700 ADL from ‘90 with a hard butt-plate... not a Sunday plinker lol. Shot my deer at 90 yards with ‘er this year though 😊 I love the irons!
You know 06 is the king of the hill
💪💪
Well they are both good rounds, and I have taken deer with both. I was dumb and sold my Remington model 70 in 270 cal. Yes it was a pre 1964.
I have both these calibers. Throwing 130 grain Hornady SST’s with the 270 and 165 grain SST’s with the 30-06. Extremely happy with both rifles. If anything, the 270 is a little bit “friendlier” to shoot. Both very effective. Another great video. Keep it up. Cheers from Down Under.
Totally agree.👍🏽
I have shot moose, elk, mule deer, whitetail deer and black bear with a .30-06, and I have shot 1 whitetail with a 270. In my opinion, the .30-06 is the better round because of versatility, but if you own a 270 there is no need to get an 06 unless most of your hunting will be for elk and moose. Personally I shoot 180 gr. bullets out of my 06.
Really like your channel. FUN!!!
Thanks for watching
Very nice
.270/130gr for me... .25-06, .270 and 6.8 SPC are my 3 favorite calibers. Nothing wrong with the .30-06... Its a proven cartridge. I really want to try the 6.8 Western next.
Can you do 7mm rem mag vs 270 or 30 06
I like both rifles.
Owned them both

Every deer i have shot with my 270 didn’t go anywhere.
I agree. The 130 gr. Stone cold kills deer on the spot.
@@jasonsimone3523 i shot the 150gr
I have shot caribou and dropped them stone dead with a 270 150 grain and also with a 30-06 they are both good guns in my opinion
@Henry Payton dnr will be knocking
Jack O Connor favored the .27. Col. Jeff Cooper favored the 30-06. This debate might go on forever. I don’t think there’s a deer alive that’s been shot with either one that could tell the difference.
Actually O'Connor stated in his writings that he preferred the 06 for larger animals. There isn't enough difference to argue about with the 3 sisters: 270, 280, & 30-06.
Not true! Ive met several deer who been shot by both and they all said they rather be hit with a .270.
@@bobbyrobbins9816 Friend now that I think about my first girlfriend, and that I sleep with her sister, the truth is that I use the 06/30 bull barrel because I could not get 270, the truth is I do not regret using the 2 calibers or having had sex with the 2
@@bobbyrobbins9816 280?! That's the ugly third sister ;)
I have never owned 30-06 but give it respect for availability, longevity and proven reliability. However, I love my Winchester Model 70 in .270 Win and would never give it up.
Love my Model 70 featherweight in 270. Shoots like a dream.
@Jason Stewart. True, and both calibers have a wide range of projectile weights
I'm a .270WIN hugger. Here's a list for those who don't know of cartridges you can buy made from the .30-06 brass shell cases. These are all exceptional cartridges. .25-06, 270WIN,
.280 REM, .338-06, .35 WHELEN
And a bunch more that were never available for sale. This is why I without hesitation give top honors to the .30-06 👑🏆🥇
I have to commend our man WHO-TEE-WHO for his honesty!
He made some misses and we all do but could have easily remade the video but uploaded it knowing folks all over the world would view it. My first Buck with my 30.06 I hit him in the heart. He jumped up landed took a step and dropped. 150 grain bullet. Good shooting Adam!
Just got my first buck Thanksgiving morning with my 30-06. Congratulations on your buck Jake
Targets get real small at 100 yards using only iron sights! I've been there with my Mosin Nagant. Great shooting!
270 all the way. 💪💪💪
Every domestic hunting cartridge released since 1906 has tried to dethrone the .30-06 and yet it's still probably the most popular caliber taken out every hunting season. That says a lot.
The .30-30 Winchester.... a caliber developed specifically for hunting. A caliber and rifle that has sold more and taken more game. But... I own both, love them both equally... however... the .270 ... well hands down just a better option. Three absolutely fantastic calibers, so versatile that you can use them for every type of hunting you wish to do.
It’s the most versatile, especially with all the available bullet options! But I had to have my shoulder replaced (old military issue) and I was warned by my surgeon, himself an avid shooter, that 30-06 or even 270 would be too much recoil impulse for the new joint. Bummer! I’ve been shooting 30-06 for 45 years. Now the biggest, fastest I can do is.243 win. or 30-30. I’m looking hard at that ranch rifle in 6.5 Grendel! Inside 300 yards, it’ll do most anything that I need it to do. IF I can find ammunition for it, I have access to my dad’s Marlin 336 in.35 Remington. That’s for hogs and bear or an elk if I get close enough. Not easy in a wheelchair!
Much like the 1911 45 ACP they both WORK even to this day.....
I love the versatility of the 30-06
@@JimiBones I shot mine for about 35 years ..The 03A3 great gun....
The two greatest non magnum long action cartridges available! I've used both with outstanding results.
Well put!
The whole 06 family is exceptional, 25-06, 270, 280, 30-06, 338-06 and 35 Whelen(I left off 2 or 3 wildcats)
I’ll bet you have more than a couple interesting hunting stories as well.
I favourite caliber is the 30-06 but there is nothing wrong with the 270
I love em all. Thanks for watching Owen
I approve this message!
I have a 30-06. Everyone I hunt with says to get .270. I ended up buying a .308. I dont think i could go wrong with either of those calibers.
308 was designed for military carry capacity.
.....short range compared to 270,6.5,30-06
7mm is my favorite.
250 yards is the about the max range where I hunt. All those calibers would be just fine at that range. Since everyone in our hunting club shoots 270 I wanted something different. And the rifle I wanted didn't have 270 as an option. It came a 6.5 cm but I'm not a trend follower either.
no pero se esta privando de tener el 270
I like them both. Can't go wrong with either on deer., But if there was a bear in my backyard trying to eat my kids, and both rifles were in arms reach, the 06 would be the one I would grab.
Depending on what rounds you had loaded
I dont know about grizzly , but black bears are pussies. The cats usually run them off. If you're going to shoot one I'd recommend a hard cast bullet for deep penetration and hydrostatic shock. A 9mm will eventually kill a pissed off bear but not before it eats you. Like I said bears really don't want any trouble and a air horn will run them off provided they aren't use to hearing the sound. I prefer the .45-70 when Im in close proximity to a large animal that's potentially dangerous. The 405 grain bullet hits like a truck and leaves a big wound that causes a rapid loss of blood blood pressure. Of course for deer I'd use the 325 grain semi jacked hollow point if using the .45-70. I hope you have a great day.
@@rickhunt3183 I’ve killed black bear with a 20ga slug and 30-06
@@jebbest1947 You know...I forgot all about slugs. I have a pump action 20 but I seldom shoot it or even think about it. I'm more of a rifle person. I love the 3006. That guy was Jack O'Connor who praised the. 270 Win.
@Max Mccurdy They are all good cartridges, but I will stick with my 7MM Rem mag.
@Max Mccurdy My 7 MM Mag M77 is the first gun I bought when I was 14 years old. It has served me well for 47 years so can’t give up on it now. Having said that, I am not much of a cartridge bigot and would be happy with most.
He liked the 06 very much also, his wife used the 06 as her heavy rifle with 220 solids, took Elephant, Tiger and more of the dangerous ones with her 06.
Jack O’Connor praised the .270, but he was getting paid to do so. He was in Winchester’s pocket and touted whatever they told him to. Don’t get me wrong, I own several .270’s and I think they are the ideal cartridge for deer out west. And then again, what Kack said about the .270 is mostly true. But he said it because he was paid to say it. It was a savvy bit of marketing to use his golden pen to proclaim the .270’s virtues. Remington never ever figured out how to do that. Example: .280Rem; which Jack actually preferred.
*Jack, not Kack. Fat thumbs. 🤦♂️
I've owned a Remington 30-06 semi,, and now I just bought a browning 270 "A" bolt,. love the 270, sold the old 30-06.

I've been a fan of the 30-06 for as long as I've been shooting. It's a great cartridge that can take out anything on the continent.
That being said, I wouldn't hesitate to take a .270 into the woods either.
Just as formidable a round as the 06.
I love em all
You got that exactly right I got 25-06,.270, 30-60, 7mm mag 300 win all work great some are lighter and easier on my old body love em all but I always reach for the .270 some don't like ultra lights shorter 22 in barrel weighs about 6 pounds and kicks like a mule but you can pack it all day thru brush and never know you got it and it's on the mark I have never failed to pull the trigger on a deer and it escape .270 is great.

The dude is Jack O’Connor, he wrote for Outdoor life magazine and a number of other mags and wrote several books on firearms and the shooting world! He wrote a great deal about the 270 but he did love the 06 as well and wrote quite a bit about that cartridge as well.
I’m a Jack O’Connor fan boy. Over the past 40+ years I bought ever book of his that I could find. He was quite a character.
Me too. O’Connor never said it was the best, but promoted it as versatile, shootable and reliable with the right bullet for the job at hand. He also admired the 30/06, said it was probable even more versatile, the 7X57 and 375. He is why the first rifle I bought was a 270. He also wrote at least one novel while he was a college professor in AZ, Horse and Buggy West: A Boyhood on the Last Frontier, which is hard to find now.
@@jeffnunes9780 I have most of his books, but not Horse and Buggy West. I can’t remember who it was, but one gun writer who was also a magazine editor wrote that anything O’Connor sent him could be sent straight to the printer. Not so with Elmer Keith, his rival. I never took up big game hunting, but always enjoyed reading about it. I was 25 when he died. I’d have to say he’s one of my “hero’s.” I’ve owned one .270, but regrettably sold it. I’m thinking a .270 Winchester Model 70 Super Grade is in my future. I just got a .243 featherweight.
O'Connor was actually a good writer, which is rare for gun writers.
"There's some old guy who wrote a book about .270"??????? ☹️
If you are referring to my esteemed Friend and former colleague the late Mister Jack 'O'Connor, Esquire, PLEASE show just a bit of respect.
And YES, Jack wrote and had published more articles in the Shooting Press about the "Fabulous" .270 Winchester cartridge THEN ANY MAN ALIVE!
Jack also hunted with both the .270 and .30-06 ALL OVER THE WORLD! Way back when, Jack hunted game on every known Continent. He even was a Friend and hunting partner to the last Shaw of Iran!!!!!
So, please;
Next time, just a bit of respect for both a fine shooter, hunter, writer and man!

I like them both. My first rifle was a Winchester model 70 in 30-06. I traded it in the early 70s. I've owned a Remington 700 BDL in 7mm Rem Magnum. Between the 30-06 and 270 these days I lean toward the 270. Seems to me it shoots a bit flatter than the 06 and it hits with authority.

30-30 Winchester has taken more deer than any other caliber. Prove me wrong.

@@davidmiller8270 he didn't hit it right the first shoot. That's why he shoot it twice. The explosion from the 06 was better
Jack O'Connor wrote a book about hunting rifles that was leaning heavily toward his favorite cartridge...the .270. He hunted and took every big game species in North America with a Winchester model 70 in .270. He harvested most big game in Africa with the same rifle.

@@MrPopeyeJohnson when I got mine, there was another available in 300 H&H and I almost just picked up both of them!
FYI, when they shoot into ballistic gelatin the lay it down length wise to see penetration.
I think it would also illustrate more effectively the difference between various bullets etc.
Shooting into short side captures the initial energy dump then it's out the back and gone.
I have both, hunt and killed deer and hogs with both. Performance was pretty much the same. The .270 I prefer for longer shots in more open areas, the ‘06 for closer range, especially big hogs. 130 gr. in .270, 180 gr. in 30-06. The .270 recoils less, the 30-06 can use heavier bullets for game bigger than deer.

270 even being smaller actually was a better blast no wonder so many people love their 270 maybe 'you can't go wrong with a 270'
270 and 30.06 both fantastic, to close to call. It's a matter of personal preference, in similar drinking Heineken or Becks.

I just looked it up. And to my surprise the .270 is carrying more velocity and more foot pounds at 100 yards than the 30-06 both with 150 grain bullets. I wouldn't have guessed that. But all the ballistics tables i checked said the same thing. Plus the .270 has a better bc.😕

Popular (and rare) 30 cal rifles
Well you know I'm a 06 fan. But 270 ain't a bad round with the right ammo like the round nose soft point(SP) pointed soft point (PSP) like you was using on deer under 300 yards tends to over penetrate with less smack down power and you have to trail further more often.. At least that's been my experience..
But it's hard to find the SP ammo ( for example I'm a corelokt fan) unlike years ago the SP and PSP were on the shelf and sold side by side in the same calibers and weights.
130 grn core lokt is my go to for .270. However , I don't think anyone can argue against the 30-06.
The first deer I shot was with the 270, dropped on the spot. It was a cloudy day, man I'm glad I was not using a 30-06!!
🤣🤣🤣
I'd Say it was the 30-06 , is the winner.
Both the .270 and the 30.06 are great hunting cartridges and as for the debate on which one is better than the other that will go on forever but I love my father's .270 Model 98 Winchester. Thanks again for another great video 👍
I got a Marlin 30-30 lever action rifle for Christmas when I was 15yrs old and it's all I have ever used for hunting deer and I'm now 34yrs old.. I've had much success with it just using Remington 150gr. Core-Lokt's and I even dropped one at 223 yards!.. For me it's my ultimate lol.. Anyways thanks WHO_TEE_ WHO as always and I hope that all is well with you and yours. 🙏🙏
Edit: That one wasn't at 223 yards wrong rifle sorry!. It was actually 186 but to me with a 30-30 it's still impressive considering.
That is awesome!
Biggest problem with '06... such a wide variety of ammunition choices i can never remember what i used to sight my scope with! Awesome video, thank you!
I would say they were real close. Shoot both so I love both calibers and can’t say which of the 2 was the most destructive , both were even.
When I bought my 30.06 in the late 80's, I was looking at buying a .270 instead. The shop owner told me they were almost identical ballistics wise, but there were so many more options in ammo for the 30.06. That's true. I shot 100 grain plinkers up to 220 grain "cannon balls". They were all so much fun. There were even 50 or 75 grain sabot bullets. I'm surprised I didn't wear the barrel out with all the ammo I shot with that rifle.
Used to shoot groundhog with the 75 grain excelerators out of my 721 06 they was ultra fast and took the groundhogs head clean off definitely a versatile caliber.
Man, do the .450 Bushmaster vs .45-70 at 100 yards on clay blocks!!!
50,000 thumbs up to that Joe!!! 45/70 is my absolute favorite
Two beautiful rifles, two wonderful calibers. Either is good for elk. You hit it more than you think.
270 all the way
Got a 1903 that 100years old this year and it the 30-60 that i will pass on to my son 😜 love the 06👍👍
Nice. *My Hunter safety instructor gave me his WW2 issue '03 service rifle on his 82nd birthday and died a few weeks later.* I stubbornly shot NRA high power rifle competitions with it in NorCal for a few years in honor of the old goat. It's strong medicine on the feral hogs out here. We have a real genetic box of hog chocolate hereabouts. Plenty of the typical Yorkie or other "feral farm pig" genetics with a stout dash of Russian blue boar semen leftover from the time when Russia effectively owned the west coast. It seems the livestock they left behind STILL hold a collective grudge against humans. I hunt steep terrain with thick chemise and manzanita type cover. Brush gun territory for sure. My model '94 30-30 seemed to fit the bill perfectly until the day I took a 15-20yd snapshot at a hog I had just spooked off it's bed in the shade. I hit it bang on the shoulder. No bueno. Muy malo, mucho calor.
It charged a couple of steps then laid over on the shoulder I had hit and started spinning around biting at the ground, forelegs tucked tight to it's chest, hind legs pumping furiously and SCREAMING in anger the whole time. Everytime it would finish a circle it would see me again and kick and scream even harder, coming a little bit closer every time then *BuhWHOOOOOM!!!!*
Then a heartbeat later "pink".
Miss Piggy was stretched out on her side, legs pointed front and back like a bacon butted ballerina getting 100,000 kilovolts in a Turkish sauna. I was on my tiptoes moonwalking at 60mph and getting nowhere trying to back away blindly while jacking in another 220gr flatnose. Strictly by chance, my hunting buddy (#1) had the presence of mind to hit her carnitas center-mass with his 30-06. (Thanks again MuhDude)
My bullet made it through the shoulder but got stuck in thick gristle. Hunting buddy #1 put the pig down but she was still squealing like a dry bearing when hunting buddy #2 makes solid contact with the sow's cervical spinal cord literally switching Miss Piggy off with a .22lr.
HB#1's shot was a bit of a mystery until we got her field dressed. No visible entry wound! Turns out my dude skewered her from stern to stem. The bullet entered her ladyparts and traversed the entire body, lengthwise, exiting on the left side of the pigs neck, just below the jawline.
To this day I still can't figure out how she was squealing after that twat shot since it turned both lungs into cherry pie filling.
Anyway, that's why my "brush gun" is a full length '03-A3 that has probably killed more actual Nazi's than deer...
@@crucifyrobinhood nice 👍👍
Don't b humble, your a great shot and have really improved since the backyard days.
🙏🙏🙏
My dad hunted for 50 years and his only 2 rifles were a 30/06 and a 35.Great upload!
My dad favored the Marlin 336 in .35 Remington. He was a lefty and couldn’t find a bolt action he liked. He was a Depression Era kid whose father was a New Mexico blacksmith and water well driller. This place is still the Wild West and, in 1929, it was much more like the real Wild West. So he was a great fan of a heavy hitting lever action. Wyatt Earp died the year my father was born.

Yessir I like the lever actions myself..The Rifleman. 😎
If I remember the ballistics between those two, the 270 is faster and flatter, but technically more susceptible to deflection from branches, etc. as the 30-06 is a bit slower and heavier so its a good brush bulldozer. I used a 243 in Virginia, which was heavy brush shit all over the place, and any shot I took thru brush missed, my buddy with his 30-06 never had that issue, but my 243 did far less damage to the meat AND it usually liquified the heart cavity and dropped the Deer within a few feet of impact. ( higher velocity i suppose) ....as a sidenote, my .243 was a REMI 740 and that puppie hated cold weather, anything below 20 dgrs and it wouldnt fire, even after using low temp lubricant...shlda bought the 700 huh man (lol)
Two beautiful guns! I sure wish gloss black scopes weren’t so hard to find. They really compliment those classic rifles.
I own both, hunted with them for years Can't go wrong with either. 30-06 is my favorite hunting round .
I like the 30 06 cal
270 everyday
👍👍
I think the 280 as far as bolistics will out shoot the 270
Thanks to your comment, I now know what a 280 is. I've never heard of it.
Still learning after all these years.
That 270 is my grandpa's rifle model. Damn thing's amazing I tell you.
The 270 has less kick which would make it a more accurate piece of equipment. Especially if one was fatigued from a long dayof staking for say a deer. Both rounds have good stopping power.
Apparently 270 is more accurate........
Scope no scope
Does anybody remember the blob from sesame Street he'd make a good Target!! 😆💥💯
Great video . I just love the 30:06
Its a good caliber for big game .
The 270 will also take as much big game as the 30:06 so it just comes down to what you like . But nothing wrong with having both . You can never have enough guns .
Me, another gun?!! Can't agree more.
You don't need to shoot warning shots at clay blocks! They're dumber than a sack of hammers.
I vote .270, but that's what I shoot, so I'm a little biased.
Thank you, I have 30-06, it’s a military cartridge and it’s been used in heavy sub machine guns, it’s a devastating cartridge.
You need a more massive blocks ,
I got no idea maybe wood blocks.
Listen I think I know what you were trying to say. The term sub machinegun by definition means that weapon fires pistol ammunition ie Uzi or Thompson. The 30 06 has been used as a machinegun cartridge since the M 1919 . We both agree though, the 30 06 is a awesome cartridge, best ever as far as I'm concerned.
They are special.
In my view, the 30-06 is a .270 XL (Extra Lead).
When it with 180grain 30-06, deer definitely fair less, I felt it on my end pronounced increase in recoil. Great videos. When I shot it with 180grain the recoil felt TWICE what 165grain was.
When looking for my first deer rifle, (I used Dad's 30-30 and .303 for years), I first chose the caliber. I looked at 300 WinMag, 30-06, and .270 Win.
I chose .270 Win because it's an in-between caliber among 8:25 the three. I also didn't want to be accused of copying someone else's setup up. 😂. The 300 Win Mag was just a fantasy in hindsight. No pratical use where I live and hunt.
