      WHO_TEE_WHO When you look through the barrel to bore sight in you turn the dials in the opposite way, but when you look through the scope to then actually sight it in while shooting turn the dials the way as indicated.
      Yes I know this sounds funny but that's how it works out. when looking threw a barrel to bore sight LOL
      Plus hit the top of the turret after every adjustment to make sure the cross hairs move.
      just a suggestion.

      THANK you SO much for making me laugh. There are some great gun channels out there, but not many of them are REAL LIFE. This is what happens to Real Guys all the time.

      knownknot I like both calibers but for white tails a .243 is my choice. Deer ain’t difficult animals to kill if you have any marksmanship skills at all. If I deer hunted in parts of the country that had potential man eaters roaming the woods I’d step up to the .270. That’s a no brainer. I don’t see it as one or the other. I love them both. It’s just that here in the Southeast where I hunt the .243 or 7mm-08 make more sense. With urban sprawl being what it is along the I-85 corridor here I can see the age of shotguns only coming within the next 25-30 years.

    The .243 doesn't need the knock down power. It explodes on contact. Way bigger wound channel and you have to plan for that. I shoot the head shots with my .243 out to 200 yards. Very satisfiying to see a head explode through my scope after a slight delay.

  • @devildog3246
    @devildog3246 5 років тому +4

    You can't go wrong with either on deer brother. The .243 may not carry the same energy as the .270, but deer don't know the difference. In the past two seasons I've dropped 6 whitetail and 3 hogs with it. Only one ran more than twenty yards before dropping. The others drop were they stood. That was with 95 grain Federal Fusion. I prefer my .308, but feel pretty good running around the woods with a .243.

An old man that worked at a reloading store I used to shop at said to me that the snipers in WWII had scopes that weren’t as good as the cheapest scopes around today, and they were successful. He told me to just pick a scope and get good shooting it. I took that advice and bought a few Nikons.

    Love the rifles, but one thing I've learned over the years is there are a lot of animals lost or wasted every year from not being precise enough on sight in and not buying quality optics. If you sight in at 25 yards you could be off inches at 100. If your optic fails due to being bumped or mishandled you could gut shoot the deer. Two inches high at 100 will have you hitting pretty well at out to 200. And buying better scopes (not saying you need zeiss or swarovski) is just much more ethical to me.

    • @WHOTEEWHO
      @WHOTEEWHO  5 років тому +5

      Where I hunt there are no shots beyond about 40 yds. 😃 I am dirt poor, and everything i own is "budget minded" ive never had any issues with my scopes - most ive ever paid for a scope is $50

    • @beardedrancher
      @beardedrancher 5 років тому +1

      Trust me when I say I understand. And if you're not shooting over 50 yards it is really unlikely that you'll wound anything. But if you ever go hunt somewhere that shots are far a leupold for 150 or 200 bucks might be worth considering. I get being budget minded, the most expensive scope I have was 300 bucks. It's a like a good guitar only sounds as good as the amp it's played through. A good rifle is only as good as the optic that's on it.

Kills the bear good enough but not before it gets you before dying. He also carries a short bbl shotgun w brenneke black magic slugs for UP CLOSE bear encounters on all his hunts because ALL of Alaska is "BEAR COUNTRY". Im Alaskan & I carry a 45/70. You said hogs, deer, coyotes and you could have also said elk, moose, mule deer, and black bear. All you would need would be that 270 sighted zero at 290 yards and make kill shots from 100 out to 600 yards by aiming dead centre for the lungs. That is how flat shooting the 130 grain bullet is. even at that extreme range it still has lots of penetration power! When they necked down and slightly extended the bevel (to prevent chambering problems with the 30-06) to a 27 cal. they essentially produced what today would be called a magnum load. One heck of a round, under appreciated by peple that haven't used it. This round has converted the most 30 cal guys than any other. As always love the vids.

    All scope dials come with an arrow indicator indicating ONE direction for adjustments so it might have an arrow indicating a clockwise direction for UP, that means an anti clockwise direction for DOWN, and the same for LEFT and RIGHT, other manufacturers might show an arrow indicating an anti clockwise for UP, so then it would be clockwise for DOWN, so check which way the arrow is indicating on your scopes.

    The 243 is the compromise if you only want one rifle. The 270 to 300 win mag is overkill for small game. The 243 can do ground hogs, coyote and up to deer sized game.

    When you look through the barrel to bore sight in you turn the dials in the opposite way, but when you look through the scope to then actually sight it in while shooting turn the dials the way as indicated.
    Yes I know this sounds funny but that's how it works out. when looking threw a barrel to bore sight LOL
    Plus hit the top of the turret after every adjustment to make sure the cross hairs move.

    The reason it was backwards at first is because you are bore sighting... when shooting you are “raising the bullet, not the crosshairs” when in reality it’s the crosshairs moving to the point of impact so when bore sighting you do opposite of what the scope says

    Your scope height is a HUGE factor, when using a short range zero. I was guessing at my scope height on a ballistics calculator. I put it in as 1.4". I later got a precise measurement, and the difference in trajectory was a lot! My scope was actually 1.7" from the bore. This made my zero change from 38 yards, to 45 yards. This was to get my bullet to hit 1" high at 100, then 1" low at 200. Test this for yourself. It makes a significant difference. This is the reason that AR shooters can use a 50-200 yard zero. Their scope height is somewhere around 2.5". A hunting rifle(1.5") will be more like a 50-130, or a 35-200 yard zero.

    I shoot a 7 mm mag
    Grouping at 100 yds is about the size of a dime
    If you want to improve your grouping, with that stand, Take your left hand off it an place it over your right hand fingers, Pull the whole gun tight to your body, watch your breathing an heart, both will cause slight movement in the barrel at long range, see if that improves your grouping.
    Also throw those store bought bullets away as far as you can, I had super X as you were using when they first came out or many years back, You could actually see the bullet come out of the barrel an drop in front of you.
    Try reloading, an some times just going slightly over the rated loads (possibly 1 or 2 grains) will bring the grouping in so it will shock you. Each gun an barrel is different, also check your bedding, If it is damaged or the barrel rubbing ever so slightly, you will never hit the broad side of a barn door.
    That 270 at that range should have gone through the same hole.

  • @Coyote-wm5op

    .270 win is limited with grain weights but it’s big advantage is longer bullets to fight wind drift and have a high ballistic coefficient to keep high velocity with less drop. 500 yds and closer it’s considered an effective elk cartridge. Lol I’ve had something similar happen with zeroing scopes. One time was with my .270. I had to take a massive piece of cardboard since it was off about 2ft.

    Turrets are designed and labeled so that you move to the right when you want the bullet to go right, turn left when you want the bullet to go left. You're losing your mind. You're moving the bullet, if you get my drift.

      If I was you, I'd go with a .308 or the 30-30. The .308 will have more range than the 30-30 but if you're not shooting over 150 yards it won't matter. Another thing, the .308 is the same as a 30-06. It has almost the same amount of powder and doesn't break your shoulder when you shoot.
