    I'm researching my next Scotch whisky purchase and literally every bottle I'm considering - Erik has a video on! Very helpful in my decision making process, thanks!

    A few years ago, when piles of this were in Costco for $37 I was happy to keep a few stocked. Over time I found it to be a bit too sticky sweet and moved on to other things.

    GlenDronach 12 has a special place in my bar because it was my introduction to sherried scotch. I still have a few of the old NCF versions as backups.

      Nothing like one's first love! Mine was The Macallan 12 Year Old Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

    Great video. Weird to see that it's the only glendronic in the core range with 43 abv. I am looking forward to Glenfarclas 12 and this comparison. I can get this bottle from 40 to 53 € in my country.

    always love your videos and insight Erik.
    The Glendronach 12 yr is always on my bar. just a really nice pour. prices range 59-74 by me

    It's a really good whisky, but it goes for around $55 here, and it's hard to say if it's worth that. Delicious sherry bomb of a dram, but there whiskies that come close to this flavor at a better price point. Still definitely worth having in your bar though.

    I just acquired a bottle of this 12 yr old , my favourite Scotch so far of my collection, paid $104 CDN here though , so more expensive than other countries

    i got a bottle of this and i was kind of hyped because it sounded right up my alley but it has a taste that i can only compare to the mosquito poison spray that gets sprayed in the neighborhood periodically through the year. not exactly new to scotch, including sherry bombs, but what you're saying makes sense. i was thinking of trying to go back to the store and exchange it for another bottle but i feel like there's a good chance they'll just think i'm an idiot

      Is that non-chill filtered and natural colored mosquito poison spray? 🥃

      @@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies yea, and i gotta say it's grown on me too. glad i didn't try to return it. i wondered if i'd gotten a bad bottle but seeing your video made me understand what i was tasting. the first night it was hard to get past that but it's got a delicious spice to it

    Hey Eric! Thanks for your great review :)
    There's a 3rd option to the rising Whisky prices, though. Buy Whiskys Not for their brand name but for their quality. There are many new distilleries and rebranded ones which offer high quality, are craft presented and priced the same or even lower than your standard big brand name. The glen Dronach 12 is a fine dram, but Glen garioch 12 in my market costs the same, offers 48% and ncf and is overall, in MY opinion a better whisky. Also, let's not forget about well made blended malts :) we have never had so high prices but also never such a choice of different fine drinks
    Cheers and slainte!

    I have enjoyed this bottle. For the price and what the prices are nowadays, I would say it's reasonable. 46% would be nice. It's a good go to whiskey to start off with or something to enjoy without spending a fortune.

    Definitely worth $50... but it's $70 here. Tough call at 70. 😬
    Totally agree that we need to adjust to the reality of the market now, but at the same time if we're paying substantially more money for a product we have the right to raise our expectations accordingly. Half-assed efforts are harder to excuse at 2023 prices than they were in 2019 prices. The concept of value has not left our world entirely, however much it's being reshuffled these days... cheers!

    I love Glendronach. Bought 2 12 years here in Nederland for 35 Euro a bottle. Nowadays that is a good price.

    Its a good drop Erik. I have a few of their others including the Dr Rachel Barrie Cask releases & had never had the standard 12 yo until recently. I was surprised how good it is & especially for the price. I havnt seen the 8yo before in my market (Aus), but will keep an eye out for it. I will admit I'm not a fan of their peated version, there are many other better peated whiskies (imo) for the same price.

    No such thing as a reasonable priced scotch in Canada esp Ontario. This is over 100 dollars CDN here.... I have stopped buying scotch because of the price.. But just like everything else prices are going up while my pay is not

    Entry level sherry bomb!
    If you've never then you should.
    There may be some controversy here if you care but if you've never had Glendronach then you are missing out on the real deal sherry.

    interesting that in Canada we also have two 10yo releases, labelled as vintage 2009, and 2011, but otherwise identical to the 12yo

    Are you sure that all but the 12 year is non chilled filtered? I thought everything is now chilled filtered.

    • @matthewreinke2047
      @matthewreinke2047 Рік тому +1

      Actually non of them are. They have not changed anything in their bottling process. They removed that from the label as the new owners did not have clarity on the definition of non-chill filtered and removed it to be legally safe. To be honest that is still a crappy answer and they should put the NCF aback on it if still holds true.

    • @teddyballgame25
      @teddyballgame25 Рік тому

      I don’t buy that. You referenced SB and they mature their batches different on purpose. Other big boys are able to do it. IMO the difference is that those barrels that are off profile they just age them longer or create a LE that isn’t necessarily good or bad, just different and charge a bunch more for it. Not sure I call that integrity either but at least I know what I’m getting into and is also half the fun.

    Reporting on 8/27/2024, my local Costco selling this at $43 usd. I’m here to see whether it’s worth it to me or not. Think I’ll pull the trigger.

    This expression is $115.99 in BC before tax! I enjoy the Glendronach 12 but not again at this price. I will pay a lot for terrific single malts but for this one $115 plus a 15% liquor tax feels high.

    $48 US ~ $65 CDN Available in both Ontario and Quebec Canada @ $109 CDN = totally over priced ! Much better alternatives available and at lower $. Have one unopened bottle, not going to replace it.

    • @garysusick1653
      @garysusick1653 Рік тому +1

      Great $ alternatives (not similar taste profiles) in my area to GlenDronach 12 = Bunnahabdain 12 ($95 CDN) Glen Scotia 15 ($105 CDN), Arran 10 ($80 CDN, I purchased 10 + bottles before the big $ increase @ an amazing price of $56 CDN), Craigellachie 13 ($81 CDN) just to name a few.
