Hi everyone! Are there any other Steve Lukather solos that you would like to hear? On that topic, I also have a lesson on how to play the solo from Rosanna: ua-cam.com/video/8PnyA7tPOrw/v-deo.html I hope you are all doing great!
The second solo that fades out the song "Gypsy Train" from the album Kingdom of Desire is a frickin monster of a solo! That would be a great one to tackle.
LOL thanks bro. It's funny you say that because back in the '80s, I had the Steve Lukather instructional video tape from Star Licks, where he teaches you a bunch of his licks from various songs. While I was doing my research and working on my transcription for this solo, I noticed someone posted a copy of that old video tape here on UA-cam. Lukather tries to explain part of this solo, and it sounded off to me. Then I found an interview online with him where he was talking about how he was totally unprepared for that video shoot, and just winged it LOL. What he teaches still sounds cool though :)
I love this guitar solo! I was trying to play it form other tabs but they were super unclear but you always just simplify it all. Thank you!! Also can you teach us Poundcake or Feels So Good form Van Halen?
That guitar !!!! What a nice top!!! Love those tops!! So glad you did this solo as there are so many WRONG transcriptions, when I saw you were doing it I was like" finally" it's gonna be done right!!! Your the BEST pdx!! Bar none! Ty
Hey Pdx,how about the " Dirty Laundry " solo by Lukather and I think Joe Walsh on the slower parts, but it's an awesome solo and haven't seen it transcribed anywhere, that would be double awesome!!!! Do it !! Do it!!
Ta be that great at 19 is God given talent. That isn't taught/learned, ya born with it. Ya the sameway! You can nail every solo perfectly! This is one of the top hard rock solos of all time.
SMOKIN 🔥 !!! One of the 1st songs I learned by ear at 14 on the guitar, though I was lost on the correct Solo, WAY out of my league, so I improvised. 🎸 🎶
Hey thanks Mark! Starting with the Les Paul, it has Super Distortion pickups (I'm using just the bridge pup for this solo). From there, I run the guitar through a Line 6 Helix, and then into my PC where I mix audio/video. I mix using Vegas Movie Studio, and often will do some audio EQ tweaking via Vegas too.
Not according to multiple interviews with him, where he specifically says he was 19 when recording it. Unless, he was doing the "let's lie about our age" thing like Van Halen did :)
@@PDXguitarfreak He/They may have wrote the song in 76 as they were playing together just not officially as Toto, who knows then but all accounts today he states his age that would have made him 21, he was killer then and still to this day. Can't imagine how many songs this guy played on that few would even know it was him. Late 70's throughout the 80's he was on everyone's albums.
I hear you regarding his age... I initially thought he was 20 based on my math. As for the recordings, Wikipedia says he has played on over 1500 recordings. I know we can't necessarily trust that source, but its the only number I can find :)

Since you asked, His killer solo on, talk to you later by The Tubes and or, Shes a Beauty.
I'll be over you... the live 1991 montreux version, including the outro would be great!
Love how you do this. Thank you for putting in the time.
Do those famous guys ever ask you to teach them their own song. I would. Hahaha.

When solos were wrote from shredding emotion, just feeling the vibe and letting the fingers fly
Those are my favorites... where you can tell the player was just going for it, and then the magic happens :)
