Looks delicious. My father-n-law was from Pennsylvania. They made a dish of pork & kraut served over mashed potatoes. I loved it. (Now me being a southern country girl I only had kraut on a hotdog before. )
Looks good my man! I will be making this on the weekend! I use this exact brand of Bavarian kraut. This makes a great dinner, with a big slice of good homemade bread with butter! 😋 I like your choice of mustard, it's closer to the German mustard that I have..
Snow is drifted high today. The fireplace is a blazing, and this is gonna be sooooo good for dinner. I can't wait! Oh yeah take me back to my childhood days in Pennsylvania.
Mr tom that looks absolutely yummy,I will have to do that for my family maybe on Thanksgiving. Cornbread looked yum too, have a great day, s.d in beebe👊
I just want to reach in and grab a few of those sausage rounds, with my fork! I do that all the time while cooking. I’m usually almost full before the meal is done from my tasting! I will try this recipe and add it to my Alabama football days menus. We never know who might show up to wat h the game here with my husband. I read or watch YouTUBE ideas during the game, I don’t do football, what I do is football food! You have a good one Mr Tom, maybe I will hear from you on Alaska Prepper. I consider him a friend of mine, just from his videos and comments. He is such a sweet humble man who loves his family, plus he’s smart as can be! Just, like you!
Looks delicious! I've been in Texas most of my life, my Mother is 100% Polish decent (Cleveland, OH). This dish was a staple in our home growing up. Both my Grandma and my Mom made sausage and sauerkraut. Going to the grocery store tomorrow, I'm going to make this for my family. Thank you for the video!
@@DeepSouthBama56 The loved it! I used Texas Smoked Sausage though...it has a bite! These Texas boys love some spice in their foods.☺ I'm making this again tonight for dinner - got in the slow cooker now.
It looks delicious!! A meat and potatoes meal, something a husband and two sons could devour in a matter of minutes!! He sounds like a very sweet neighborly friend!!
I think I might really enjoy this with a small order of long cooking, homemade baked beans in my stoneware baking crock. I think it might be that good looking sausage that’s making me want those beans! Such a nice recipe and an enjoyable chat to go with your video! Hats off to you Mr. Tom!
My husband's grandfather (PA Dutch) in PA, taught me how to cook saurkraut. Adding 3 pepper corns takes the acid taste out. He served it over mashed potatoes. Makes me hungry to watch you cook. Love it.
@@katdadi1 Yes. Whole peppercorns. Remove before serving. Using 3 makes that easy. Enjoy. BTW if onions are left in strips and separated, they will just disappear. Delicious when served with mashed potatoes!!!
Made it yesterday. Oh my goodness! Delicious. My maternal grandmother was from Ohio, of German decent from a Pennsylvania Rev War Patriot. Came to Alabama around 1900. That was my Yankee grandma. 😊
Mr. Tom my husband grew up in Kentucky. His Grandmother made something like your recipe. She baked pork ribs done then put sauerkraut over them and baked that all about 20 minutes more. This casserole dish was served with mashed potatoes. It is unbelievably good. I'm a Florida girl and never heard of it. It is now on our supper table as often as I can get it fixed! I enjoy your cooking videos and I can't wait to try this recipe of yours!
Hey, my husband and I live in Choconut, PA. I know Bradford is around here somewhere as I see signs for it here and there. I can't wait to try your recipe and others you may have.
You remind me of my my grandmother and grandfather. We live in a small fishing community East Jacksonville Florida called Mayport. She lived in the same spot or 107 years. We will at the mouth of the st. Johns River. Seafood has been our thing. I see you use uniodized salt. Please start using iodized salt. And stop using sea salt. Iodine is important in your diet. I see you combine both northern as well as mostly southern. Cooking. All respect and keep it up. I love it. Would like to see ur son. Your daughter and grandson are wonderful. Keep ur chin up. And stay busy. Helps with the mind.
Mayport Ferry actually it’s only one mineral in the salt they’ve added after taking out all the minerals. Your better off combining sea salt and hemalayian salt to get your minerals.
I'd have to say, . . . With that dish, you definitely qualify to be in Granny Clampett's company! yes sir'ee, she would would be dang well proud of ya!
My Grandmother made sauerkraut and always gave us a gallon jug we kept in the fridge .We ate it as a snack almost everyday .My Dad did not like the smell and did not eat it at all . Your dish looks delish and a side dish of white beans and cornbread would be marvelous . And now I am going to see if maybe there is a can of Kraut hiding in my pantry .Enjoy your great meal. ! 😃
Been making a lot of polish sausage and kraut lately but ever since I was a kid I've always ate it straight up pretty much without potatoes and some of the other ingredients. Sometimes I will add a touch of brown sugar or recently tried a little Worcestershire sauce. This will be on my to do list soon. Thanks for the vid.
Definitely northern food! I'm not sure if we eat more sausage or cheese in WI. I have many roots in NY and PA too. I can live without the carraway though. And I might use bratwurst. Especially if I serve it during a Packer game. The cracked pepper is wonderful. I get my bacon decked out with pepper. I live just a few miles from a fresh meat market where the owner has won many sausage awards world wide. He only sells the best in all meats and I am blessed being his customer. My husband can't cook, but he does the dishes. I have a fridge magnate that says "no woman ever shot a man while he was doing the dishes" Blessings!
Mr. Tom I love love sauerkraut..what a great recipe!! And so easy in the crock pot..wish I had my old one like yours..I don't like the new ones as much..and you are right about not needing salt..thank for sharing😊and u r kitty is so cute♡
Hello! Mr.Tom, I love smoked sausage cut up and fried and cooked with sauerkraut, we also cut up hotdog weiners and cook with sauerkraut. I haven't eaten it the way you made yours, but it looks and sounds absolutely delicious. I will definitely be trying it your way with the vegetables added (but no celery). Thanks for sharing your recipe..."God Bless You".
I'm from upstate NY but family is originally from Pa. too! We also use the Bavarian kraut. Lol, I brown my meat using the same wooden spatula, and use paper plates. 😄. Are you copying me? 😄 Wow, that looks delicious! I haven't made this meal in years. Think I'll make it the day after tomorrow. Tomorrow will be trying Pantry Prepper's crock pot lasagna. 😋. Thanks, Mr. Tom. Have a blessed week.

Thank you for taking the time to talk us through your recipe, it looked wonderful and I hope you enjoyed it! I was fortunate to visit Bavaria on a number of occasions as a child and I remember that Sauerkraut being quite the staple alongside many a meal, especially a roast pork in a spicy crust. Those slow cookers are very popular among the younger folk here in the UK, they are definitely having a renaissance. Thank you for the lovely videos that you do, you have a distinct, unique style and I love it! God Bless you and your family!
This looks SO good! Would it be better to precook the potatoes then cook it all together for the shortest time possible to not kill the beneficial bacteria in the sauerkraut?

Mr. Tom your dinner looks so delicious. We make that a lot at our house. Picked up a tip from you. We will be shaving our carrots thin like you do. Thanks for sharing. Have a wonderful day. Hello to Trixie and Cleo and Samantha cats. Trixie is still number one cat.
