Probably my favorite arrangement of this piece. The bass note ornamentation is not at all excessive (Segovia's) but conversely enhances the mood and sentiment of the piece itself. A perfect complement. Thank you Julian.
If you could see his hands your brain would explode out of your ears from all of the unfiltered awesome, be glad the cameraman saved you from such a fate
Of course Julian Bream had no idea they were filming just his face, but the camera director who chose to spend over half the video zoomed in on just the face? That is just nuts. Most videos of a guitar player focus on the guitar. It made the video seem like Bream was just projecting the music with his mind or something. It seems like the director wasn't actually watching a live monitor of what was being filmed at the time.
What would happen if you saw Julian Bream's hands? Isn't it enough to hear sounds that have no color harmony during transitions? If it is Bach, it means there is a perfect composition. The perfect composition must be played perfectly; Because they believed in a perfect God. Barrueco is a very good interpreter of Bach. good luck......
@jsnauwaert "not very good"? are you kidding,, hes got such a big reputation because he's one of the most expressive guitarists of our time. if you "dont understand" why he has that reputation one has to wonder if you understand classical guitar???
MarkAntony Many thanks from Lima, Perú. I have a cassette with splendid Mr. Bream's versions of Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez, Britten's Courtly dances from 'Gloriana' and Vivaldi's Concert for Guitar. Its a souvenir of my youth, thanks again.
@mcj3691 Know what you mean, I like to see the guitar playing and not just the face. Still, wonderful music. A sincere thanks to the one who posted this.
A football writer said about Pelé: "Was he the greatest footbal player ever? Every time \i watched him I was convinced he was, only to later be racked with doubts" Similarly, I often think about how technically proficient so many guitarist are, then I switch on YT and watch a video like this. There is still simply noone to compare with Julian Bream
This is merely two masters communicating across more than 200 years... JS simply whispers.. 'with feeling Julian'.... and Bream scrunches up his face and plays, and whispers back.... 'yes master....'
I gotta say, I really liked it... but yeah, the camera needed a shot of his left hand for us guitarists. Just a shot of his face gets a bit uncomfortable.
Its just a very old recording that seems to have had problems even when it was initally recorded and broadcasted. This is Bream! :) I think its almost silly to think otherwise. I definitely like the part where we meets eyes with whomever in the audience and gives them a nod. Probably a somewhat strange moment for the audience member, but hes almost looking at the camera and its about as close as ill ever get to meeting this legend! haha
lol the video says prelude in G while the text says 1007 ... look this is cello suit 1 bwv 1007 and it starts in C By the way , brilliant performance and worthy of my stamp of approval.
@belinox I wonder if Bream just happened to get in their 1st & establish that niche. Since there have been hundreds classical guitarists equally as brilliant as Bream but he's got it all sown up market wise so they don't really get a look in CD sales wise.
@pobinr lots of classical guitarists are composers too, and a lot of the guitarists that don't compose will still rewrite, rearrange, and obviously reinterpret great music.
Hi Mark Anthony, don't have he patience to look thru 188 comments to find out if this Prelude is in the key of D or G, I'm sure there must be at least one comment asking this? And the camera man filmed half the piece showing Julian's face, which we love to see, but many of us also want to see his hands!
it is I (many people think it is better than me but the complete sentence would be "he's a lot better than I am" thus "than I") I learned it from an SAT study guide :P
i mean that his version of this concert piece has the 6th tune in D. Whereas other version don't. This master piece is in the key of G major not Dmajor.
audio quality sucks though and its in D, infact you retune the E string on the guitar to a D in order to play Breams arrangement. Saw the great man once at the Royal Scottish Academy of music and drama Glasgow, was 2awesome.
@bobbyismysuperdog I myself am a Classical Guitar Player but im going to have to disagree despite the bias i commonly have when listening to music. There is truly no comparison in the color and dynamics of the guitar. There is also no comparison to the volume, stability, and range of the piano, and there is no comparison with the passion, vibrato, and sound of the typical orchestral instruments (cello, viola, & violin).
I wish the camera would have caught more of the left hand fingering ---seems like every guitarist that plays this it a little differently---would have liked to see what Juliann's fingering was from start to finish.
It would be foolish to try and replicate Vieuxtemps and Camille Saint-Saens brilliance on the guitar, it would be ridiculous to try and gain the beauty and uniqueness of Chopin, Beethoven, and Listz on the guitar, and it would be ridiculously foolish to try and replicate true guitar pieces on any other instruments. Each instrument has its incredible aspect, and it is impossible to uphold one and exclude the others as a true Classical Music appreciator.
@mcj3691 hahahah I love your comment its so funny one thinks that Julian is about to explode , but you are right , i dont see why the camera is not on his hands
@jsnauwaert it's not julian bream playing ! how can you think that bream plays like that ?? it's a joke of course !! bream is on the video, but not in the audio !
A great classical player but he was also a great jazz guitarist in the early days...could've rolled with Almeida, Byrd,,Mattola.. likewise they couldve easily chosen the classical path. Interesting though they all had each others albums.
I enjoy seeing a world-class performer take the risk, live, for the sake of expression, interest, and beauty. What he did was musical. It made for a lovely virtuosic and inspired performance that moved his audience, so I'd call that a meaningful display of musicianship.
This is from a time when recordings weren't so good as they are today. I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but the most of the nonsensical comments on here show what a vile brain some people have. Can you lot do any better?
It is funny to see his stance with classical guitar, he uses his lute stance -- which is challenging because loses much of the gravity from the arm and elbow. He uses much more hand strength with his hybrid style.
Probably my favorite arrangement of this piece. The bass note ornamentation is not at all excessive (Segovia's) but conversely enhances the mood and sentiment of the piece itself. A perfect complement. Thank you Julian.
is amazin and he is one of the greatest but personally :

I love the ending, and the place, audience, suite, and mood.
i wish those days were back. when classical guitarists got media time :(
If you could see his hands your brain would explode out of your ears from all of the unfiltered awesome, be glad the cameraman saved you from such a fate
Best recital of this piece ever.
Bream's facial expressions are with no doubt an important part of his playing, but not THAT IMPORTANT. Come on! I want to see his hands.
Of course Julian Bream had no idea they were filming just his face, but the camera director who chose to spend over half the video zoomed in on just the face? That is just nuts. Most videos of a guitar player focus on the guitar. It made the video seem like Bream was just projecting the music with his mind or something. a pioneer in both baroque interpretation and comb overs! JB rocks!!
Mucho pelo en flequillo, ceja y patilla, y poco en la coronilla.
Classical guitar has and always will be the best.
one of the best music pieces in history of men
I am glad to have the opportunity to see the Bream videos you post.
Tim
I am saddened by the negative comments. I am glad to hear the maestro play this.
@jsnauwaert "not very good"? are you kidding,, hes got such a big reputation because he's one of the most expressive guitarists of our time. if you "dont understand" why he has that reputation one has to wonder if you understand classical guitar???
The Maestros comb-over is flawless!
Julian Bream a genius of the guitar.
@mcj3691 Know what you mean, I like to see the guitar playing and not just the face. Still, wonderful music. A sincere thanks to the one who posted this.
MY FAVORITE VERSION

Segovia is double of this man
@@paolouta4926 😂
The original was in G, the guitar transcriptis in D major.
Because many people can play this, but only few can compose such masterpieces
how is this insightful in ANY way??? that is the most obvious conclusion every single human being would come to
This is merely two masters communicating across more than 200 years... JS simply whispers.. 'with feeling Julian'.... and Bream scrunches up his face and plays, and whispers back.... 'yes master....'
Rest in peace jullian bream
I asked my uncle who I should learn from and he said Bream or Williams. Sad to find out Bream had passed. What a G.
This has just made my day :)
Wonderful! Thank you so much!
why is everyone saying its not bream? its clearly his sound and a pretty decent performance
El más grande guitarrista. Así de simple.
I gotta say, I really liked it...
but yeah, the camera needed a shot of his left hand for us guitarists. Just a shot of his face gets a bit uncomfortable.
Fantastico y Hermoso! Alb Cal 2016 ajc
¡¡Grandioso Bream!!
thank goodness for the change of shot at 1:20- I'm sure a few viewers thought he was pulling his pud for the first part...
Its just a very old recording that seems to have had problems even when it was initally recorded and broadcasted. This is Bream! :) I think its almost silly to think otherwise. Just an amazing song! 5 *
This is brilliant!
lol the video says prelude in G while the text says 1007 ...

Epic comb over!
@ishymuu1 yes, you're right, it's Bream playing , but if you look at his face at the end.... i think he was sick that day... nobody is perfect...
Amazing!
now i remember you ollie! ... elementary school, you really havent changed at all
explendido !
Magnific !
excellent!
Muy lindo, me trae Paz y Armonía.
when bream makes the O face you know its gonna be good
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Bravo Maestro...Oh ...I don't mind that I can't see his hands..I only use my ears. Bravo Maestro!!!
@MucusFelidae Agreed!

Like the little bass thingie around 0:43
The original was in G major. And his transcription was in D Major. So, he actually had it right.
brilliant
i mean that his version of this concert piece has the 6th tune in D. Whereas other version don't. This master piece is in the key of G major not Dmajor.
u can't see his hands but look at how relaxed his shoulders are.
On mute it's like two minutes of constipated bream
audio quality sucks though and its in D, infact you retune the E string on the guitar to a D in order to play Breams arrangement. Saw the great man once at the Royal Scottish Academy of music and drama Glasgow, was 2awesome.

this malfunction at 1:54 sounds strangely fascinating.
@eirinikos:
it's quite silly to write something like this but actually you're right. ^^
nice playing.
I wish the camera would have caught more of the left hand fingering ---seems like every guitarist that plays this it a little differently---would have liked to see what Juliann's fingering was from start to finish.
Something funny happened at 1:50-1:55.
That was quite normal in the old time video era
is because the church where he play is build over an ancient pagan temple
@ownzjo0 It's the Orgasmic feeling that one gets when playing such piece.
can't everybody just listen instead of talking about seeing his hands?
No
It would be foolish to try and replicate Vieuxtemps and Camille Saint-Saens brilliance on the guitar, it would be ridiculous to try and gain the beauty and uniqueness of Chopin, Beethoven, and Listz on the guitar, and it would be ridiculously foolish to try and replicate true guitar pieces on any other instruments. @mcj3691 haha yes though the face shot can clearly show how the music affected him, which can be beneficial in a different less direct way.
hence the song in D
@ownzjo0 Perhaps you should try closing your eyes and keeping the sound on, in that case.
@maurobgoode
I agree, but what about the best music pieces in history of rabbits?
In the zone......
@mcj3691 hahahah I love your comment its so funny
one thinks that Julian is about to explode , but you are right , i dont see why the camera is not on his hands
Camera man, on point.
cool brows
@pobinr He has no hands. He does his job by foots
@leonthebaker Yes. I want to respond, but words are so inadequate.
@mcj3691 agreed
Thats right, he's so good his colon could play Bach better than most.
He has the 6th in D.
Blame the editor, not the cameraman.
@pobinr he felt in love with his face :D
censorship at 0:28, a note they don't want us to hear. but why?
@ToXin88 you think thats bad, you should watch slava gregorian play! his whole body moves with his face!
@ownzjo0 To be fair, it's only 1:20 - but man, does he work up a sweat.
Eitherway, it'd be funny if at the start of the video it zoomed out and he was playing an xbox or something :P
It was the F note.
no where close to Segovia's version. But REALLY good :D
Suite nº 1 in G...
2:07 Wow, he really messed up the timing when he tried to add in extra notes.
I enjoy seeing a world-class performer take the risk, live, for the sake of expression, interest, and beauty. What he did was musical. It made for a lovely virtuosic and inspired performance that moved his audience, so I'd call that a meaningful display of musicianship.
Bream nails BWV 997, but no one plays 1007 as Segovia!
凄い。最後の低音、どうやって弾いているんだろう
Is he blind? I noticed he was closing his eyes alot. Very good.
this is the cello suite in g, not prelude in d...
It's the prelude from the G maj cello suite but transposed to D for guitar.
Clueless
protip; when Bach wrote this piece moderns guitar dont exists.
Я не слышал чтобы многие играли на гитаре Баха единицы играют хорошо продумано
@mcj3691 me too!
it's in D, I know because I can play this song
This is from a time when recordings weren't so good as they are today. I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but the most of the nonsensical comments on here show what a vile brain some people have. Can you lot do any better?
1:53 A Bit Techno

havbe a version of faber music 1970
