Wine & Popcorn with Andrea Tournis-Vagenas, Owner of Island Popper Gourmet Popcorn

Andrea Tournis-Vagenas and her husband moved to Hawaii from Chicago 10 years ago and enjoyed life in the islands. They both thought the kerny of the Windy City was missing in the islands. Andrea and her husband were both craving Garrett Popcorn, a handcrafted Chicago-style popcorn that is famous for its caramel and cheese mix. The missing blend of tangy cheese and rich caramel popcorn and its familiar sweet aroma served as the inspiration for the birth of Island Popper Gourmet Popcorn.
After planning and perfecting recipes in her kitchen for nine months, Tournis-Vagenas found a food truck on Craigslist and launched the business in 2012. The truck, known affectionately as “Poppy,” served as the business’s home on wheels for seven years until Island Popper expanded to a storefront location on Colburn Street in Kalihi two years ago.
Island Popper was created in 2012 with a mission to create the most delicious gourmet popcorn the islands have ever tasted. Their goal is simple: serve you the best butter, caramel, cheese, and furikake popcorn possible! You can find all of our flavors wherever our truck is parked, or at the new store in Kalihi - 1549 Colburn St! They are available to cater private parties, festivals, and any other special event.
