Oh no, pecans are something that folks definitely eat on their own. It's great with a pecan tree in the yard, just picking them up off the ground, cracking them open and eating them fresh. Or covering them with sugar and cinnamon, roasting them in the oven and then having them. So good.
You've just painted them in anew light my friend. Now I have to try them roasted in an oven with sugar and cinnamon on them, nice and warm on a cold winters day. Obviously we won't be able to get them fresh off the ground but we can get the next best thing 🙌. Thanks for the tip and thank you for Watching 🙏
Pro tip for making American style pie crust form scratch: Freeze your butter and then grate it with the largest holes on the grater. Then you need to quickly incorporate that butter into the flour mixture so it does not melt all the way. The eventual steam from the pockets of cold butter is what makes the crust so flaky. The first time I used this method was also the first time my homemade pie crust came out top shelf excellent.
This actually goes for a lot of baked goods. For instance, our (American) biscuits. And as @catherinelw9365 pointed out, you don't want to overwork it, or you'll get gluten development, which you don't want for pie crust.
I agree with that waitress. Pumpkin is primary, but sweet potato, apple and pecan are also pretty common as Thanksgiving pies. My family usually does pumpkin & apple pies. I eat a slice of each. YUM. lol at you guys arguing about your favorites. This is why many families end up with multiple pies during the holidays. That way everyone is happy. I'm curious of Joe will find a pie that he really craves by the end of the series. I hope so! This is such a great series. You guys should definitely do that cake series as well! I can see you guys continuing this through others as well. Maybe trying to make different style American pizzas? Getting the ingredients and cooking right for those would be a lot harder though. Maybe you'd have to reserve that for trying them over here when you visit. Have you guys tried southern biscuits and gravy? That's a popular one that makes Brits squirm until they try it. Can't wait for more! Thanks guys.
I am American and can actually get corn syrup but never use it in my pecan pie. Always maple syrup for the flavor. Also try it with browned butter instead of regular butter. It’s a total game changer. Pean pie is my fave.
Both these pies would be served with heaps of Whipped Cream on top for the Sweet Potato and Vanilla Ice cream for the Pecan Pie. We will eat them cold, but prefer the pie to still be warm from the oven.
So what we usually do Thanksgiving wise is just a small thin slices of the pumpkin pie with a larger slice of WARM Apple Pie that’s served with Ice Cream drizzled with Caramel. The WARM is what takes the Apple Pie to the next level. I think you guys might be getting sick of the creamy pies because you’re taking too big of pieces. Usually so many people have baked pies on Thanksgiving that you have to have room for everyone’s pie so you don’t take huge slices of anything. Sure there are some dad’s out there doing it and you get huge slices at restaurants but those are meant for sharing as well. At least that’s my take on not being overwhelmed but American Pie. You take a small slice and then everyone is picking on what left in the fridge for the next two days. Pecan Pie is soooooo good right!! The ladies are absolutely doing some phenomenal baking, they’re so awesome for doing that form the channel! Thin slices trust me, it’s the way to go.
You cannot have just one pie during Thanksgiving. Most Americans do a bare minimum of 2-3 different pies for a family, with the holy trinity being Punpkin, Pecan, and Apple (or another fruit/berry like cherry or blueberry are super common). You grab a little slice of each, add some whipped cream and vanilla ice cream to your plate, and eat them however you please, jumping between different pies to enjoy the different flavors w/and w/o whip and ice cream. Another Thanksgiving dish recommendation is HOMEMADE cranberry sauce. The stuff in the can (jellied and with berries mixed in) are classic, but not nearly as good as homemade. It's insanely easy to make too, just cranberries, sugar, and water boiled. Some people add lemon or vanilla or something similar, but you don't need it.

THESE are the pies I grew up with at every Thanksgiving & Christmas. (And coconut) Our typically Thanksgiving meal is Turkey w/stuffing & a couple more meats like ham, beef roast, fried chicken, bbq meatballs, Mac & cheese, collard greens, cabbage, yams, potato salad, pasta salad, deviled eggs, fresh yeast rolls, cranberry sauce. There is always more food & desserts but this is the basics.
If you know anyone allergic to nuts and/or want a pecan style pie that’s got cheaper ingredients since pecans are likely pricy and harder to come by there- look up oatmeal pie. Especially look up “black bottom oatmeal pie” you wind up with an allergy safe pie that tastes like if pecan pie had a baby with a cookie. Usually served warm with vanilla ice cream. Golden syrup is best for it (yes we can get it imported) with a dash of maple syrup for flavor. The black bottom means there’s a chocolate layer but it I’ve done oatmeal and black bottom and the black bottom is better especially at a family thanksgiving where there’s both pecan and oatmeal so there’s a few more visual differences once cut so no one accidentally uses the wrong pie server with the allergen free pie. Also there’s pies that are both pumpkin and pecan at once. And also one day you’ll have to try a piecaken!
There are a lot of Americans that hate marshmallow on sweet potatoes. Another way is to have chopped pecans and brown sugar on top of sweet potatoes. So do the one you would like for you.
Pecan Pie is pretty easy to make. I would normally make one for Thanksgiving. I normally put Whipped Cream on the Pecan Pie. I use Karo Dark Syrup and I use a little vanilla. The three top pie for Thanksgiving are Pumpkin, Pecan & Apple in that order.
Some people don’t like turkey 🦃 because turkey tends to over cooked and the meat drys out. Some people opt out for ham 🍖 or both… what’s most popular for side dishes can be roasted potatoes, corn 🌽 on the cob with butter, roasted mixed vegetables, green salad 🥗, mashed potato and gravy, bread stuffing, dinner rolls, corn bread, cranberry sauce or cranberry jelly(it helps to cleanse the palate because turkey meat is very gamy in flavor), apple pie 🥧, sweet potato 🍠 pie, pumpkin pie, and pecan pie(sometimes they are served with cool whip or vanilla ice cream). This is most popular because they are in season for fall harvest. Culture wise in different states, they add their own favorite side dishes and flavors. I think Thanksgiving is one of the U.S Hollidays that’s very inclusive. I can’t wait to see your thanksgiving dinner. I was born on thanksgiving. My Mom just finished making dinner and sat down to eat and her water broke. My brothers and Sisters remind me of how I ruined thanksgiving that year. Of course they’re joking. 😂😂😂
We always have pumpkin pie, apple pie, pecan pie and lemon meringue pie for Thanksgiving dinner. All 4 must be on the table! As the three of you have discovered, everyone has different taste buds and have their own favorite, so we make sure everyone is covered for dinner!
Cheesecake, don't know why in America we call it a cake. It's basically a PIE! Saying that during Thanksgiving are family we'll usually have 3 choices of pie. Pumpkin Pie, Pecan Pie & Cheesecake
As far as my favorite pies... Lemon Meringue Pie... Key Lime PIe... Cheesecake (it's actually considered a pie but called cake..go figure) with or without toppings... that's it...
Even in America people make all of these pies a little different so some are better than others so its really hard to judge them by just trying one persons version of them.
Pecan is definitely my favorite! Never had vanilla ice cream with it though. That is usually reserved for warm apple or cherry pie. Way to go, Leila. Sounds like she knocked it out of the park.
We usually have cool whip on top of our pumpkin pie when you put it on your dish then you scoop out how much cool whip u want on the piece of pie. 💜🙏Cool whip is like vanilla ice cream & whip cream mixed. We do love our pies so nice of you to try them. My sister n laws dad was in his 90's & he's always loved alot of cool whip on his pie & when he gets finished you can't see the pie it's covered in white cool whip😂. Buttered Coconut pie or a coconut cream pie is really good or there's German chocolate pie that has coconut, chocolate & pecan😂 ( we say both pee-can or pa-con). We have alot of fruit pies a mixed berry pie is good(blueberries, cherries, blackberries & strawberries I think) Some pie crust are shortbread crusts or Graham cracker crust like for cheesecake we also use just the 2 cookie halves of the oreo crushed up & mixed with melted butter for cheesecakes or pie crust. There is whole strawberry pie. You might like strawberry shortcake it sliced yellow pound cake with strawberries & strawberry sauce with cold whip cream. You might already have that there. The cake soaks up the strawberry juice/sauce & then the cold whip cream which we would probably use cool whip which is already made whip that is in tubs in the freezers at the grocery stores here & frozen it tastes just like vanilla ice cream or put it in the refrigerator & it gets soft & super fluffy. I'm pretty sure u don't have it there. Naked pumpkin pie is too plain. We have pie cook books with hundreds & hundreds of pies. We have tarts ( like the German tarts) or tartlets which is like a rustic folded up pie with an open center, we have cobblers & we have them premade frozen or refrigerated in our grocery stores. 🎃☁️🥧☁️🥮☁️🍦🫓🍛😳🫣🤐 🍎🍏🍋🍌🍐🍑🍒🍓🥝🫐🌰🍫
Thanksgiving dinner is turkey, a ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potatoes with charred/melted marshmallow topping, corn, peas, stuffing(like stove top but better if you make it inside the bird although stove top would suffice if you cant do it that way), cranberry (jelly) sauce, biscuits/dinner rolls, maybe some green beans with potatoes(its a southern thing), maybe some greens made with a turkey leg or ham bone in it, and dessert.🌽🦃🍽️
When southerners make sweet potato pie. What they do is when they mash the sweet potatoes in a bljender. They keep it in their a bit longer than normal. Because what happens is the blender ends up removing these small small strands that are in the sweet potato it actually makes it smoother?
My mom makes a pumpkin pie that has two layers and the top layer is white/tastes like cheesecake. I dont like regular pumpkin pie that much but THAT pie, i LOVE. 😋🥧
@@RaygoBloomMukbangs I think she even got the recipe from the label of a can of condensed or evaporated milk. It really is 💣. But pumpkin cheesecake is also a thing and it looks the same. I don't think the one my mom made were called cheesecake, though. 🤔
Sweet potato pie and pumpkin pie should have whipped cream on top. It's kinda part of the flavor profile. Maybe it's just my region, but without it I might pass too.
There are many ppl who enjoy more pie crust to pie filling ratio, especially when it's the perfect buttery, flaky crust. I like more pie crust for pumpkin, sweet potato and ANY cream pie as it balances the "custard like" consistency with a crunchy texture. Everyone has different tastes, so whatever "trips your trigger" is good. Also, IMO, whipped cream is better than ice cream for pumpkin & sweet potato pies (and I mean slather those pies with whipped cream). Have fun.
Sounds like you guys might have eaten all these pies on an empty stomach. I would say definitely eat them after a nice meal and really enjoy them. Great stuff, keep it up!
Pecan Pie is the best! My Mom used to make bite sized pecan pies, and I could eat my weight in those pies. Walnut Pie is just as good, and can be better depending on who makes it (IMO).
Sweet Potato Pie usually has butter in it and most pumpkin pie doesn't otherwise I think they taste similar. I do prefer Pumpkin Pie, though. I do love Pecan Pie but it is too rich and too sweet for me so I rarely make it.
I much prefer pumpkin to sweet potato. 10 - 1. I am so used to pumpkin pie, that sweet potato is odd. Fruit pies, I love them all. Blueberry, my favorite, strawberry, cherry, apple cinnamon, peach; banana cream pie. Another fruit pie is rhubarb pie. It is kind of tart.
The pumpkin pie spices are the flavoring. The sweet potato and pumpkin vegetables have little flavor themselves. Funny as hell watching you fight over pies.
Maybe to give you guys time to get everything together and make it easier try to find a American Smithfield brand spiral cut ham, proper shredded cheddar cheese to make macaroni and cheese, stovetop stuffing, green beans, mashed potatoes, rolls, and sweet potatoes cooked with butter and brown sugar.
To my thinking baby mama only apply to a women who you are not currently in a relationship with. If my husband had ever called me his baby mama I would have been highly offended, the titles girlfriend or wife definitely precedent.
I had really good sweet potato pies before, but I’m still not a fan. The secret to make a good sweet potato pie is to bake the sweet potatoes and tender, which would take about three hours. The color stays nice and bright and orange and the baking brings out the natural sugars and the potatoes. I’d like baked sweet potatoes as they are with butter, but I don’t like them as sweet potato pies There’s nothing like the smell of a sweet potato baking on a cold and rainy day. Then load them with lots and lots of butter and mash it in and fluff it up and it is heavenly.
If your sweet potato pie tastes anything like your pumpkin pie, I would be suspicious that neither are very good representations of what they could be. Especially so, if you wish there was more crust and less filling. Sweet potato is less firm than pumpkin, but both should have enough strength to not sag when you cut a piece. If the texture is loose like custard, then something went wrong. And I prefer pecan pie with more pecans. In the US South, both pecans and hickory nuts are very plentiful and the good pies are mostly nuts, with just enough of the syrupy goo to hold it all together. Where the nuts are less plentiful and more expensive, recipes tend to only top the pies with nuts.
You have to try oreo pie. Also, youd be disappointed with our pies. Because we dont yse those thin tart pans. Our pie pans are thick. Because we usually want room for more filling. Our ratio is not even close to 50/50 with our crust. The crust is just the base. Its usually a 15-85% or 20-80% crust to filling ratio. Their are no rules when it comes to pie. If you want texture. Add texture. Top it with some nuts, or cookie bits.
fyi, this isn't really how these pies taste because you're using a tart pan and not a pie pan and the tart pan is very shallow. Pies have a thinner crust and about double the filling.
Those looked really good, but, tbf, I'm not a fan of a lot of the pies you've been trying. (And I feel for you, Charlie, cherry pie is f**king gross 😕) I grew up where the main industry was apples, so this time of year we'd be eating apple everything, but I totally get the texture thing. Most fruit is pretty 🤮when cooked for that reason. Berry, like blackberry and blueberry (the combination of the two is amazing) is good, except for strawberry, which gets the funky texture. The custard pies are gross, too, and actually, so are most of the cream pies. 🤷🏽♀ But pecan pie is rockin' and so is walnut raisin pie 😋Lemon meringue is probably the best. There's a lot more than pie that you can make with pumpkins. I love pumpkin desserts (mostly because of the spices in it), but I'd rather have cake or cookies, or some of the other dozens of things people have come up with that include pumpkin, than pie. Our family always has something for the people who don't prefer pie at our holiday meals. I'm looking forward to your Thanksgiving dinner episode 🍗🥧🍻🖖🏽

I don’t use syrup of any kind in my pecan pie. The recipe I have makes a richer and denser pecan pie. I can’t stand the taste and texture of a pecan pie made with any type of syrup in it.

Sounds like you guys might have eaten all these pies on an empty stomach. I would say definitely eat them after a nice meal and really enjoy them. Great stuff, keep it up!
You can add booze to a pecan pie..
There is chocolate pecan pie..
There is a layer pie..
Pumpkin on the bottom and pecan on the top..
Pecan Pie is the best! My Mom used to make bite sized pecan pies, and I could eat my weight in those pies. Walnut Pie is just as good, and can be better depending on who makes it (IMO).
Y’all should try chocolate pecan pie. Its like pecan but with chocolate.
Also try Shoo-Fly pie. It’s Amish and to die for.
Glad y’all enjoyed the pecan pie! (It’s my favorite too) I always look forward to devouring a slice or two at Thanksgiving 😂
As a southerner I've never put ice cream on my pies... Pies are good by themselves
It's not about the Pecans it's the filling that hit different 🤤✊🏼
We can't see your guys' reactions tonight 🙌

Please tell me this is a mistake. I hope you meant to say we can’t WAIT to see your guys reactions tonight.
American here, Most of us cannot tell the difference between pumpkin pie and sweet potato pie. It’s a fact.
I can tell you guys enjoy food! Pecan pie is the real deal.
Sweet Potato Pie usually has butter in it and most pumpkin pie doesn't otherwise I think they taste similar. I do prefer Pumpkin Pie, though. I do love Pecan Pie but it is too rich and too sweet for me so I rarely make it.
Pecan pie and MILK!
Pecan pie is my favorite ❤❤❤
It's definitely the winner up to now, Dona! I can see why it's your favourite 😋
Maple syrup is an excellent choice!
Pecan pie is my favorite. I have it whenever I can.
Sweet potato is the best pie ever, hot or cold. I don't care what anyone says!😊
Since you liked the pecan pie with vanilla ice cream, you need to try pecan pralines and vanilla ice cream
I make a damn good bourbon pecan pie every thanksgiving!
Try Peach Cobbler!
Americans in pecan producing areas of the US pronounce pecan as 'puh conn'.
Martha Stewart has a great recipe for Pumpkin Pie.
I'm sorry I give Pecan Pie a 10. Love it.
To my thinking baby mama only apply to a women who you are not currently in a relationship with. If my husband had ever called me his baby mama I would have been highly offended, the titles girlfriend or wife definitely precedent.
100% on pecan ❤
I had really good sweet potato pies before, but I’m still not a fan.
The secret to make a good sweet potato pie is to bake the sweet potatoes and tender, which would take about three hours. The color stays nice and bright and orange and the baking brings out the natural sugars and the potatoes.
I’d like baked sweet potatoes as they are with butter, but I don’t like them as sweet potato pies
There’s nothing like the smell of a sweet potato baking on a cold and rainy day. Then load them with lots and lots of butter and mash it in and fluff it up and it is heavenly.
Yes! Ice cream!
Pecan Pie is always the best.
watch some videos of deep frying a turkeys especially the fails.
I hate peaches, but I love Peach Cobbler!
Corn syrup and maple syrup are 2 different things, but I'm sure any syrup you got is fine.
NEED TO TRY BANANA CREAM PIE! 🥧 🍌
Two 9's and a 7 averages to an 8.3 rating for the Pecan pie.
Oh damn did they just used maple syrup instead of corn syrup, and no one has commented on that, is that normal?
Did Keeley make all these for you? The next treat box I send is for her only. My god.
All the girls in our immediate family made them 🙂 Keeley, Leila and Amy, and our Mum 🤣 were lucky really! Hope you're doing okay 🙌
@@RaygoBloomMukbangs lucky boys !
maths is hard but it's hard to beet a good pecan pie.
Yayyyy Charlie!
I use brown sugar in my pecan pie
Actually sweet potato casserole is better than the pie.
deep fry the turkey FTW!
That's a guaranteed house fire if us 3 tried that 🤣🤣😅
@@RaygoBloomMukbangs outside mate!
Love pumpkin bread
My guess: They will like pecan pie, but find sweet potato pie too stodgy!
We will have to just wait and see, Catherine 😎
@@RaygoBloomMukbangs ohhhhh, I hate when you say that 😝. My guess is pecan gets sickly quickly
Pecan pie all day long
I really hope that's about pecan pie isn't an overloaded with nuts. Too much nut ruins it for me
There is only one way to find out Barry boyy! 5.30 pm tonight, uk time !!
No, corn syrup is not the same as maple syrup.
Does getting here before Val count or do I actually have to be the first?
Lolololol!!! No fair! I worked late. We both lost. You weren’t first! 🤣🤣🤣

I didn’t consider the possibility of the third contender. Rookie mistake, and one that I’ll never make again!

Tissue Boy I would love to see you watch 3 American bros try lots of British foods and them rate it all as shit and see what you think lol. Except to be fair Americans would try harder to make foods a lot closer to the original compared to how Brits attempt to make American foods. I'm not even hating or anything. I love you bros. It's just sadly a well known thing that American foods get lost in translation over there. Get your asses over here bros!
I don’t use syrup of any kind in my pecan pie. The recipe I have makes a richer and denser pecan pie. I can’t stand the taste and texture of a pecan pie made with any type of syrup in it.
Sweet potato pie is a disgusting disappointment. Pumpkin pie is the winner hands down.
Opposite for me 😮😊
