As much as I love the Rutherford-Marples, THIS here is the one true Miss Marple! I watched this as a kid - at my Grandma's, munching on crisps or chocolate (or both). It was fantastic!
I was really young when this came out and watching it was the first time me and my sister were allowed to stay up past 9 oclock : ). The music is so evocative of all that. Fantastic. Thanks for posting!
What I did find remarkable about Joan Hickson's version - those eyes; there was more intelligence, more discernment there ...I did also like Geraldine; there was still something almost coquette about her at times ... But I've an acquaintance who's still holding out for Nobody Since Margaret Rutherford!

All of them are good in their own way, Joan is not better than Margret, Julia or Geraldine, in my mind they play Miss Marple as best as they can. There was never one that was worse than the other at all. Margret was not all that terrible, though I didn't like the way she'd warn the murderer what she was capable of. Joan was great with the flute voice,Julia was fine with the knitting, Angela did give a small bit of naughtyness to her.
I have to say that Margaret Rutherford was the best Miss Marple out there. She was British but I grew up watching her in German. Her theme song is a lot better than this one in my opinion.
The theme tune was so emotive, a masterpiece really. And all the musical scores which ran through all the films were spot on too.

Not bad. Becoming an idol at 80! (Joan was born in 1906.)
As good as the other 3 are, for me it has to be be the late Joan Hickson! Marvellous interpretation of the role!
