The indomitable and much loved Margaret Rutherford - like a galleon in full sail! In her autobiography it says that she was persuaded to make the Miss Marple films because she needed to keep the Inland Revenue happy. Thank goodness she did. I wish there were more of them and that at least one of them had been in colour. Thank you MGM and Borehamwood studios.
This is for, anyone, with a drop of English blood in them, Margaret Rutherford was the quintessential, "Grandmother" we all had. There was, no, getting away with any "hijinks or mischief" but, what our Grand and Great Grandmother's didn't know about: However, no matter, what there was always time, for, tea and a wink ... !!! Quite, possibly, a quick "sip" of bandy, when, nobody was watching ... !!! Thank You, Nanny Cheers ---
So few but SO BRILLIANT I had to rush out and get the box set of her Miss Marples as she OWNS that role. I since i was a child I fwell in love with Ron Goodwins awesome music then eventually I saw my first film. Been a devoted fan since. It did annot me when the Americans attempted to make a very wishy washy 'imitation' in the shape of Angela Lansbury (all respect to her another BRILLIANT British actress) but the 'vehicle' they put her in broke down sadly in the form of 'Murder she Wrote'. (taking the name of Goodwin's theme tune). An awful series nothing like Dear Margaret Rutherford and her strong storylines. I watched one episode only of Lanbury's show and that was enough to put me off. So sadly missed thank you Ms Rutherford for the suspense and the laughter.
The irony of Margaret as Miss Marple was the fact that she (Rutherford) was NOT the Miss Marple Christie painted in her mystery novels; this Christie was quoted as saying herself. If many of Christie's readers were not happy with the movie version of their favorite amateur spinster detective, they mostly kept their opinions to themselves. For, once she is seen on the screen as Miss Jane Marple, nobody really cares: she's sensational.
I will never forget Miss Marple!!!! I love Margaret Rutherford!!!! I can safely say that there are 2 well-defined miss Marples, one is the funny one with Margaret and the other much more serious with Joan Hickson, I will love them both forever!!!! love from Argentina!
How many actresses have their own signature Tune Margaret Rutherford was one probably The only one a true mistress of her craft She was priceless I love watching her on screen She was and always be the first and only Miss marple Rest in peace dear LADY

My favourite too, although to be fair she isn’t much like the Miss Marple of the books. I don’t mind though, I have loved her since I was a little girl. She always seemed so kind and jolly. I still love her films now, they are my favourite on the sofa under a blanket comfort watch, and are the only reason why we still own a vcr player because I’ve got a collection on tape. This music lifts my spirits, it’s so like her.
Better than anything that I know for conjuring up the spirit of the very early 1960s in the UK. Frothy coffee in Pyrex cups, bubble cars, and posh English people doing The Twist.
I just recently saw these movies for the first time. Great movies and Margarete Rutherford is wonderful. I had to pause this at 1:44 - 1:45 to see the cat (stuffed) before it jumps LOL
the brilliant actress and if you show the the fullmovie - the murder at the gallop hotel i.d like be much ablidged to you. please, this film with magaret is magic.
Miss Marple meets Miss Marple in the first film Murder She said. Future Miss Marple Joan Hickson answers the door to Dame Margaret in one scene. They are good films and are meant to be serious films too but because of Margaret Rutherford, you can't help but laugh
I don't watch too much tv .I'm out of the house for 11 hours a day where there is no tv I don't think that that constitutes watching to much tv . TV is very educational. 📖📚
Wonderful actress, and admired by Dame Agatha Christie although the author was not overly keen on Margaret getting the part. The original description for the character was small, shrewd and bird-like, which Dame Margaret Rutherford certainly was NOT. However, since the MGM Miss Marple movies were a mish-mash of storylines anyway, and Dame Margaret played Marple so delightfully, no one really worried.
Dr. Stefan Exner in Dessau uses this title song for the telephone line of his legal practice. Is this why he ignores the law and his professional responsibilities?
@@karenproctor1256 thanks so very much for identifying this piece of music! It is a very catchy melody! I think it has characteristics of Bert Kaempfert, Franck Pourcel and Henry Mancini and certainly don't associate it with a murder/mystery!!!!!! Thanks again and I wish you all the very best. Greetings from Australia!
Only one massive flaw in the film 'Murder she said', the trains would have to be running at about 3 mp/h to have witnessed such a crime in such detail!!! Look out of a train window as another passes and you realise all you see is a massive blur for less than a second!!
Not only THE Miss Marple, but also my favourite actress of all time.
Tu did right with Her ! Merci beaucoup from Paris France.

FANTASTIC MELODY AND LADY MARGARET
48 years ago today this wonderful lady passed away for eternity to spirit.
She passed away in 1972, the same year my grand-mother passed. Her husband Stringer Davis passed in 1973.
Dame Margaret was THE absolute best Miss Marple, and Australia's own Bud Tingwell was a great policeman.
Mr. Tingwell passed in 2009. He was a wonderful actor too. He and Margaret Rutherford stole the show!
The one and only.
Agatha Christie approved.
Beautiful experience 💥💥💥❤️
You can't help but swing to this theme!!
Only played Miss Marple 5 times (between 1961-1965)!! yet is synonymous with the part.
5? I only know 4 movies - She said, At the Gallop, Most Foul and Ahoy. Was there anything else?
