I've flown JAL Premium Economy four times this year (2024). Make sure to book Row 21! It's the last row before regular Economy section. Bathroom is just a step away, as well as attendant station. Service is INCREDIBLE. You will literally want for nothing. Also, Premium Economy includes airport lounge access! Upgrade is worth every penny. This is a 12 hour flight and you need to be comfortable.
This is good news. I'm flying from the US to Japan next week and am a bit anxious about being stuck in a plane for so long. I've only flown first class once, and it was a dream. I've flown normal economy both domestic and internationally many times. I did not think I could do it to Japan so upgraded to Premium Economy and stayed within my travel budget. I hope for the best.
Been on JAL PE a couple of times. Can’t complain about the seat pitch at 42”. The fact that you recline within the shell means no one’s going to recline into you, which is nice. I found the catering in PE not very good. I felt ANA was better. And, at least for me, flying out of SFO, the timing of JAL’s flight to Haneda leaves around 11AM, while ANA’s leaves a little after midnight, making sleeping a lot easier. Service on the two airlines is impeccable…..no issues with either. An added bonus with PE is lounge access (ANA also offers it to PE). Out of SFO, it’s no big deal (but pretty much all SFO international lounges are bad, except for Polaris). But at Haneda, the lounges are quite nice.
Wait! so your saying if I'm flying out of LAX which I am and I buy regular economy I can just upgrade it to premium for only $350 on site? if so is that round trip or just one way ?
It's not that cheap. It's $350 each way so 700 round trip and only if there are available seats. I just bought my premium economy flight track the prices have been really good I got non-stop from NY to Tokyo for 1500.
But the recline doesn't go back much with it being in a shell surely...making airlines like Virgin and BA which have seats that go way back making sleeping much better.

I definitely need to try JAL premium economy. Thanks for the video
Good job mate 👍 Thanks for sharing
I’m happy with the economy class! I love JAL
Can Premium economy passengers use the Sakura lounge in BKK and Tokyo?

it's just one way
So is it just cheaper to upgrade at the airport? $350 seems more worth it compared to x2 of regular economy.
