  • Due to a scup's naturally-crabby taste, it makes for a fantastic substitution for lobster meat.

Andy, Thanks for the great recipe and video. I am a long time OTW subscriber and follow your column and recipes intently. I cook the fish as you describe and then make it into "Tuna" salad using Mayo., celery, onions and black pepper. It works for me and tastes great. i now vacuum freeze my filleted and boneless scup in two pound quantities and enjoy scup salad all winter. Thanks Andy.

I watched every single video on YT about Poor Man's Lobster. Your extra steps seemed to make great sense to me. (Broil in butter and chilling are steps others omit.) We made 2 pounds of cod following your steps, then ate it plain, dipped in butter and as a lobster roll. All were excellent, but none were quite lobster. The lobster roll is the way to go in that the flavor is masked by the other ingredients. Thank you for this video.

Great video, but at the end it looks like you fed it to the dog and the chicken. How was it?

hi Mike. My husband has an entire freezer of small scups he caught on a party boat and I had no idea how to prepare or cook them. I watched you fillet video and that really helped. Not sure if I'll be able to pull it off but I'm going to try, lol. So my question about this recipe is about how many sandwiches would you say you get? I noticed you had some left over in the bowl. I'm thinking about four of these and i'd say you used about a pound of fish? Also, I think i'll add a few dashes of worsterchire to the dressing.I like how you shared it with your pets. I was annoyed reading a few of the comments that kinda disparaged you for sharing with them.

I'd say a pound of fillets would be plenty for 4 sandwiches. And yes, I take good care of my pets. Those hens lay a lot of eggs, and that bird dog put 2 pounds of pheasant meat in my freezer yesterday alone. Thanks for the kind words!

Only right that his assistant got to share in the finished product.

People who think this taste like lobster dont eat much lobster. Its good to eat so do try it but it tastes like fish not lobster.

Sure is strange that you didn't eat any of it.
But fed it to the dog and the chicken.
That a lot of work for animal food.

@ mike kalynowski we did eat it and it was very good! Our taste testing took a while so we edited it out for time but we had to give some to the dog Woody as he is kind of the assistant chef!

All that work just to feed it to the animals.
