Not trying to sharpshoot, but in 1998 Ford didn't call the heavy duty F150 the 7700 yet, they didn't change the name until year 2000. In 1998 Ford called it the light duty F250. I just relocated my IAT wires to fit the manifold. The 99-00 IAT sensor is on the driver side while the later years is on the passenger side. I used Lightning throttle and cruise control cables but those aren't made anymore so you'll need a bracket to use your NA cables or you'll need to find used L cables.
Do you know anything about swapping a 4.2l v6 for a 5.4l? I know they both use the same transmission and I'll have to get a new computer, I just want to know what else I'll be getting involve with. Thanks, Dallas
I probably get 1MPG less than I did. Depends on how you drive it, if you're in boost all the time it is gonna suck, you have to burn more fuel to go with the additional air under boost conditions. If you are just normally driving you won't see over 5Lbs of boost and even that is only merging/passing etc. The 1MPG loss, in my case, is most likely the power needed to spin the blower, they can suck up 100HP to turn them.
If you have a 2000 and up F150 you could probably do just the Lightning top end swap for around 3K. If you want to turn up the boost the you'll need a built bottom end with forged pistons.
Dallas, you'll need a 5.4 NA computer (ECU). You can't run a V8 from your V6 ECU even with a custom tune. Will likely also need the 5.4 fan shroud and fan and maybe reloacate some sensors such as head temp and coolant sensors. Throttle and cruise control cables come to mind as well.

Yes it is. I ran the little Eaton blower up until this past Winter when I put on a Whipple 2.9 blower. It is about at the limit of what can be done on 93 pump gas.
Depends on how hard you drive it. If you're in boost all the time then of course it is going to burn more gas because you are making more power than the NA engine used to make. If you grandma it around, it gets 1MPG less than it did before.
Is it bad to ask how much something like this is to buy? I have a 2001 f150 xlt super crew with the 5.4 and I would love doing this but don't know enough about all of it yet.
Price really depends on how "bullet proof" you want the motor and what your power goals are. To swap on a Lightning intake system to your truck you're probably looking at 2-3K and it would get you probably 380HP and 450TQ...how long the bottom end would last would probably depend on how hard your were on it. A fully built short block like my truck has will cost you 4k right by itself but its good to 1000HP...which I'll never come close to.
I bought all those from Ford racing back when they were still making them. The Lightning cables are no longer made but there is a guy on lightningrodders.com that sells some custom made brackets that let you use your stock throttle and cruise control cables in the conversion. You can find the tanks on ebay usually.

If you have a 99 and up F150 you could probably do just the Lightning top end swap for around 3K. If you want to turn up the boost the you'll need a built bottom end with forged pistons. Its been a while ago, truck is still running great though. I probably spent 8K but I build a whole new motor with a new block, Manley internals and ARP studs everywhere. The little things add up, like the fuel pumps, hoses, fittings etc. You can spend 700 on the SCT handheld tuner and the tune to go with it.
No. My truck came with the 4r100. Although it is a 4r100...it is the most weak of the bunch. The strength of 4r100s went, 7.3PSD, V10 expedition, Lightning, then 7700 package F150. My tranny has 145K on it now and it seems just fine. I don't beat on the truck much and I have a triple disc, billet front, aftermarket converter. My understanding was that the converter was the weakest link in the original tranny design. I will eventually get the transmission built more robust.
5-6 psi on an otherwise stock motor is different than 5-6 psi on a motor with cams, ported heads, high flow exhaust, etc. I'm making 15.6 psi with ported heads, cams, built bottom end, long tube headers etc and my 4r100 has been fine for 10K+ miles.... but I don't beat on it. Mine put down 423HP and 525TQ on the dyno. A 4r70 should be able to handle 350 Tq. A 4r100 should handle 500 Tq, at the crank of the motor...that is the way ford assigned the numbers to them. I would get a converter regardless, you'll eventually need it anyway. Mine is a Circle D and I've been very pleased with it over the years. I think you should be ok but you always have to be prepared to "pay-to-play"
Just to tow our toy hauler a little better than my old 5.4 did. In all honesty I could have lived with the towing as it was but I had a mid-life crisis and this was cheaper than trading my ol lady in on a set of 20 year olds.

He said that it came with the 7700 package. I think that comes with the 4r100
Shouldn’t it be the 4r70w for that yr 97-03 ?
@@carpetcleaning3605 I would think. I've read several reasons trucks had that trans it's just rare to see. That and I guess maybe see if he made a typo
@@scottskinner577 Nah, not a typo. It is a unique thing but if you got the "max tow" package then you got the 4R100(it is not an E4OD) for at least the first part of the model year. It is hard to say exactly when the switch to the 4R100 happened. I know all 99s and up have the 4R70 and it seems some 98s have the 4R100 and some have the 4R70.
@@bebeslife4519 It has the 7700 "max tow" package, it isn't a LD250 but it has the same running gear the LD250s had minus the 7 lug wheels. I have the 9.75 read, 8.8 front and 4R100 tranny, BW4406 transfer case.
What kind of cam are thoes and do you have a part number?

@@thastinger345 thanks
hey thastinger345 look into fixing that CEL. old farmers trick is to stack 2 spark plug anti fowlers and drill through them. works a treat for a cat delete
max, the cel is fixed. It now has 2 cats on it, properly sized, instead of the 4 it came with.
how much was the total cost ?
Its been a while ago, truck is still running great though. I probably spent 8K but I build a whole new motor with a new block, Manley internals and ARP studs everywhere. The little things add up, like the fuel pumps, hoses, fittings etc. You can spend 700 on the SCT handheld tuner and the tune to go with it.
What did you have to do for your gauges to work?
which ones? The factory guages all work as they used to before the swap. The aftermarket gauges come with instructions and sender units.
You have to install and connect in order for them to work.
Do you still have the 4r70 in there?
+thastinger345 do you think a 4r70 could hold like 5-6 psi????? Or would I need to get a new converter??
What did u need to add super charger...
Just to tow our toy hauler a little better than my old 5.4 did. In all honesty I could have lived with the towing as it was but I had a mid-life crisis and this was cheaper than trading my ol lady in on a set of 20 year olds.
Pedro Escamilla I have a 02 Lightning supercharger kit for sale if your interested let me know
do you still own this truck?...I have a 2001 crew lariet that cost 31,450 new...I will never sell it but pass it down because my local cemetery said it not the same thing as a state approved casket..lol.....you got a great truck there....cheaper to keeper....i got online the other day and duplicated my truck with the tow group....and picked the lariet package.....OMG....near 50.000....give or take.....no thanks....i love what I have......and I love the payment....zero.....lol..
post more vids please
Chris, I do still own it. I use it mostly as a truck...mulch, firewood, fertilizer hauling, pulling the boat/camper etc. The local dirt drag track has a "street class"...has to be registered, pass state inspection, DOT tires etc. I've been toying with the idea of running it in that class just for fun.
thastinger345 that would be fun...wish I had your 17 inch wheels...i do have factory 17 inch...but they are the lariet group 1. wheels....uses the same center as yours....but mine aren't the directional aluminum
Since this video was taken, I bought refinished directional alum wheels just like these. They look brand new and are available on ebay.
Oh nice
Glad i found your video. I'm going to do the same and make a series of it. If you're on here i may come back to pick your brain. Subbed :)
Yep, still have the truck, still running good, have had no significant issues since the conversion.
What tuning software are you running?
@@4g3d SCT. I'm running my OEM ECU as I had a NA 5.4 from the factory.
Keep the stock wheels ( sleeper )
I still have a 02 lightning supercharger complete swap kit for sale, anyone interested let me know
I’m interested
what are you asking for the kit
kron694 i sold it already man but if I ever get another kit I’ll let you know
OFD, when you refer to having a complete swap kit, please are you referring to all the components you salvaged from a donor Lightening truck? I understand you sold it, but if you acquire another complete system, (price dependent) I would be interested in the entire engine. I have a 2003, F150 7700 4x4, 4R100 trans, extra cab, and I would like to rebuild the engine, front/rear axles, and transmission.
@@UnderSprayedWhiteSkies yeah it was a complete swap, I bought all the parts needed for the swap, I was getting ready to install it on my 03 f150 but sadly my truck got totaled but sounds good man I’ll let you know if I ever get another full swap. I’m probably going to buy another 03 f150, really miss mine.
I want to do this so bad to my king ranch!
gotta get going on it then, these parts are becoming more difficult to find. At least start acquiring the parts necessary to convert it.

@@thastinger345 Did you use the lightning harness or the stock truck harness?
Did you get your swap done?
@@19jody72 My truck had the NA 5.4 in it already so I used my original harness and ECU. I didn't use the 4 sensors on the drivers side that the Lightning uses though (barometric pressure, EGR controller, air density). I only had to extend my IAT wire and my TPS wire.
I have a 02 Lightning supercharger kit for sale let me know for more info
OneFastHD how much? What all comes with it?
