We are using the Quantum Smoke S3 for all of our fishing charters in 2021. We had to make a change from a different company whose reels that did not last 3 years. The bearings wore out completely. We used Quantum Cabo reels for many years, but clients are so hard on our gear that it didn't make sense to use a more expensive reel when we saw the quality and price of the Quantum PT Smoke S3

Good review, these really are high performance reels, and they last. We have a couple of Cabo 120 PT’s, and all 3 generations of the inshore smoke in 30 and 40 sizes, including the original Exo PT spinning reel in the grey color. 8 years, zero problems. The drag is as good as any of the more expensive brands, but the bail arm is definitely the best by none on the market. Now using them for spj on our charter boat
I just bought this reel not long ago and it constantly gets windknots. Is it the 10lb braid on the SSM 30XPT model that is causing it or something else?

I own a couple of older smaller Quantum 2500 size reels that I use as "loaners" for the in-laws and such. I got them used and they operate as smooth as the day I first got them.
I'm pretty OCD about my brand new personal tackle, so loaners are MUST HAVE for me.
They are great reels, have served us well for many years. The cabo's were to expensive for clients, got beat to death. The Smoke S3 is a great compromise reel between great quality and reasonable price. Thansk again for the great comments!

Hi Edward - We are going to ICAST in 19 days and I will be able to get you a much better deal after the show. I didn't want to have someone buy one only to see a lower price later so I took the links down for a couple of weeks. Could I use this for a king mackerel or striped bass?
Absolutely, we catch 50 to 80 lb Tarpon on them as well as accidental sharks. Super tough reels with a great drag system!
