Yes go down 1 size if they aren’t committing

I just bought this reel not long ago and it constantly gets windknots. Is it the 10lb braid on the SSM 30XPT model that is causing it or something else?

Well nonfil is fused with some sort of a heating process. When I was testing line for possible use by our clients I found that there were certain areas of the line that were thinner than others. As a result we broke off a number of big fish due to this problem with the line. I would double the number of turns if you decide to use this line, that should hold since its so slippery. I wouldn't recommend you use it for saltwater applications, just not a robust line for tough conditions based on my experience. On the other hand it is great for pan fish in 10 lb test. One of my favs for Crappies since it floats it can keep the baits higher in the water column. Thanks Capt Eric...

I use it for wild browns in Scotland so nothing much over a half pound it seems to cast a very long way from initial testing anyway haven’t had a fault with it yet but will probably switch to fluorocarbon eventually just thought I’d give it a try 😎👍 thanks for the advice though appreciated 😉

Hey Jesse I will talk to the product manager, and see if you are right about being made in WuFlu Land. I would hate to see a great reel being made out of Chineseium rather than made in USA quality aluminum. Hi Ty That video was shot at Yuba Lake in Utah. It used to be full of stunted perch, they stocked walleyes and 10 yrs later lots of jumbo perch. Since then they stocked N Pike to help further control the bigger perch that the Walleyes couldn't eat. Great balance now and they use the Pike as brood stock for their tiger muskie program. It is outside the"box" for many anglers, but simply trolling a crawler with a bottom bouncer and a spinner catches just about everything that swims in a lake. Its great for kids and it can catch some big bass, my best bass on a bottom bouncer was a little over 8lbs! Give it a try you wont believe how many different fish you can catch in a day. Good Luck! Sorry to hear you have been having those problems. If you are having bearing failure once a year something else is very wrong. It sounds like the trailer is a single axle and grossly overloaded and possibly driving at high speed. I sold the boat because of the trailer headache- but she was 24 ft walkaround about 4K lbs dry weight on a galvanized 2 axle trailer spring leaf suspension with surge brakes. I definitely may have driven too fast, about 65 mph two hours for the round trip. I’m looking into buying another boat, I’ve read good reviews about The Vault hybrid bearing system, I think I’ll try that next time on an aluminum trailer.

I have T-H Vault hubs on my newest trailer and they are the only way to go. 7 Yrs of trouble free use, don't even think twice, just buy 'em. My best guess on your old trailer is that the castle nuts were to tight. There should be a little wiggle room 1/8" or so to allow back and forth play between the nut and the bearing. If that nut was tight against the bearing you will over heat them in a hurry and you know what happens then (ugh). You can't rely on dealers to do trailers right, most of the time they want to sell you a million dollar boat and a $10 dollar trailer. A trailer is the most important part of your new boat, it lives on the trailer. We both know what happens when it goes wrong. Be sure to get a torsion axle trailer, best thing you'll ever do for your boat, a must if it hits the salt water. Capt Eric...

By the 1/8 inch number you said I’m thinking you’re meaning 1/8 of an inch rotation rather than 1/8 of an inch space between the nut and the bearing

Wow that sounds awful. I've seen some horrible trailers but that sounds like one of the worst. I had a magic tilt trailer that only lasted 3 yrs before the galvanized steel spacers near the coupler ate thru the trailer frame completely. There are some terrible trailers and components out there so be sure to check the hubs in particular. Lots of cheap Chinese junk with questionable lug bolts that can beak easily, and be sure to bring a magnet with you when you are buying any stainless steel hardware. A magnet should not stick to the very best stainless and just barely to good stainless and there is a lot of imported junk stainless from China that the magnet will find for you. So sorry to hear that, I suppose it was someone else casting. I had a near miss when a client put all three hooks from a rattle trap right under my eye years ago. If you do this long enough getting hooked is part of the job description.

Good chance gloves may do more harm to the slime than a wet hand. I always try to handle them as little as possible especially when our Redfish numbers are still very low from the Red tide event we had from Oct 2017 till Apr 2019.

That fish was totally un-harmed and we practice 100% catch and release, a fish is to valuable to catch only one time.

Hey these are really good glasses, I was surprised but they have been selling them since 1989 this is the first ICAST they have been to. Seems some low ball companies knocked them out of REI and a Dicks and a couple others. So I think its the best thing that happed for anglers in a long time.
