- With January being a tight month for most people after Christmas, I thought it would be cool to come up with a way of making a target corona style dartboard light surround that works amazingly well for as cheap as possible. Using basic tools and a handful of bits from local hardware stores.

Hi guys! If yous have any ideas on how to improve this rim light then let me know down below!👇 Also what should I call it? I'm thinking ' the clash light ' let me know! Peace x
@@JohnnyCree that sounds more like Ross streaking 🤣
Poundstretcher and the like do a small wooden easel that makes a great tablet holder.
If your 5.1 then your board is too low lol
@@jbrownlfctid haha I'm 5 6 😇😇
Youve done a great job there mate, the only thing id try to improve would be to somehow add a lip or rim in front of the leds so there hidden from sight when your standing at the oche but still light the board. But if the haze off the lights dosent affect your throw then leave it as it is 👍🏻👊🏻i have the winmau led ring light myself. Dont like ‘ clash light 👎🏻lol maybe call it ...’aurora’ 🤷🏼♂️👊🏻
Great video, I made one the other day, only thing I did different was go around the edge with electrical tape to hide the lights whilst looking straight on as they were so bright😀
This is the problem, you cant stick light strip behaind but if to bright we just need to stick something round on the front , but need to be same size..
What size of this whele isit??
What a great idea! Think I'll have a go myself. The only change I would make would be to mount the LED strip on the internal angled edge of the wheel rim. That way the LED's point directly at the board and not towards the thrower, which should illuminate the board just as well but not give any glare to the thrower.
I just finished mine, and did this. I used the same brand led strip and there was just enough give to be able to bend it enough to be on the inner angled part of the rim without needing to make cuts. Works great, as you can't see the actual lights at all. It leaves the holes exposed too, so you can change the mounts if needed.
I took your idea. And it turned out to make the LED light surround cheaper than 10 pounds. Thank you!
Brilliant! What a wonderful idea Thanks
Hey Ross !
Thank you ! Really, it works so well and looks nice.
Good job :)
Cheers from France
Might give this a go, as a beginner I love the look of light surrounds but don’t wanna spend a load of money! Cheers!!!
Love it. Such a good idea !
i was looking at getting one of the light surrounds until i saw this video. great job my friend and thank you for a wonderful and money saving idea
Hi mate. I’ve been inspired by this and I’ve started this project. Have the rim and I just finished taking all the spokes off. Collecting brackets , nuts and bolts tomorrow. Led arriving Friday. I’ll post my finish photo. Great idea mate and thanks a lot
Smart as SMART LIGHT ! Great job 👍🎯🤩
So I've jss created my own DIY dartboard surround light its awesome i love it
That's spot on that mate, well done 👏
Great video mate a lot of work in this
Bracets could go inside and be stick into dartboard not surround. So easy!!
Or just use 4 old spokes, put them back in four right places and just push/stick into the dartboard.
I quite liked your intro, very original and amusing. Go on, do it once more
Kick ass dude! Totally gonna build one for my own!
Awesome video, chap 👏
Great video Ross. 👍👍
Thank you !
fab job... gonna share this :-)
That’s a great idea
Hey, great idea I didn't want to fork out for one and it so happened i had everything I needed except the brackets, can complain at a £3 light surround.
The only changes I made was mounting the LEDs on the inner edge and instead of using the shafts I got a bolt and nut, put the nut on the bolt and put it through the bracket and into the dart barrel and then tighten the nut to secure it, it's solid as a rock now. Not sure that makes sense, will try and post a photo.
Haha love this!!
Great work! Very intuitive. Would work well with a Gran Board too!
Wheely good that pal 😂👍
Even better now the child of mine wanted a unicycle and now he has one after I stole a wheel of his bike🙊🙊
great job mate..
Nice and tidy job 👏👏
Thanks 👍
thanks a lot.
Tht is f***ing genius.😮
Interesting video
Great video needed this in my life about to build next weekend along with my DIY raised oche I'll post how it goes
Glad it helped Terry! Don't forget to hit that subscribe button if you haven't already!!
Great video, great reaction to how well it worked, just wanted to know if the LED's were visible to you while throwing darts
I made one similar to that but I used the tire cut in half instead of the wheel.
Great video new subscriber Cheers.
Just finished mine! Works like a charm thank you so much!!!!
Happy days man glad it worked for you!
@@ClashOfTheTungsten Wish I could show you a picture
@@briankrontz hit me up on twitter!
@@ClashOfTheTungsten Done!
Brilliant video and a simple idea.
That is brilliant! I think it's better than the corona
Yup, they're nearly $200 CDN at the moment. I already have a pile of LED ribbon lights. Just need to pull my old mountain bike out to see if the rims are big enough. Great idea!
The Cycle-own!
Really nice video broseph !!
New sub here !
Yooo d tox! Appreciate it mate ❤️
I'd try to have the brackets go around the outside of the surround or between the board and the surround. It would just need longer brackets and a vise and a metalworking hammer to bend them to the right profile. Having said that, this was a fantastic idea and other than the old darts in the surround, I think you did a fantastic job. If I were target etc id start worrying!
Thanks really great suggestions! That was half the issue I wanted them bracketed between the board and the surround but alot of people don't have the tools etc to do it so I wanted to make it a way that people can follow! Great suggestions though and I appreciate you watching 👍
Honestly ive been looking to make something like this for ages but could never find a decent video. Looks great. I am wondering if there is a solid led strip that has the cut offs but can be run by a usb battery pack? Any idea's please
Very cool build but was just wondering how much distance is there between the dartboard surface and the bottom of the rim?
2nd video I watched of yours bud and that’s truly worth a sub. Creativity at its best. I was going to suggest feeding the wire through, but you picked that one up. I guess only other enhancements would be wing nuts and longer brackets so to be able to adjust without the need of a screwdriver if fixed to a wall. And maybe different colour leds for use outside a game of arraz.
Names well I guess you could get creative with the Corona brand given the time when you’ve made this. Or something to do with numbers (e.g. 360 for the 180).
Looking forward to more vids from the Raleigh Pally ;-)
Ricky
Hi Ricky! Wow thanks for the kind words chap! Yes I made that change after as it was annoying seeing the wire pulling at the strip looks lovely and clean now! Never thought of wing nuts that would have been so much easier too! Haha RGB would be cool but they weren't bright enough! Would be cool to have a disco setting haha! Thanks so much for your kind words suggestions and support matey! All the best!
Great video mate thoroughly enjoyed it! Great job buddy!
The only "improvement" I can think of for this idea, is to mount the LED on the backside of the rim. It is slanted slightly, and then it wouldn't be blinding from the top side of the light ring.
Yes I did this and all the lights are hidden and I only get semi blinded when I retrieve the darts.
Loved this video! Not going to lie I genuinely thought the LED light was the gears off the bike, and didn’t have a clue what you would of used it for!
Lmfao 😂😂 haha glad you liked it fella!
Great tutorial mate, I have just made one myself. I've had to install the brackets inside out. Because my rim was bigger.
I would call it SABR. Surround A Bright Ring.
Or MODL. My Own Darts Light
Sick! A year later, how is it holding up?
Very nice, maybe should call it COTT Light or Tungsten light ;-)
Fucking brilliant. Getting a proper light shipped to the US costs as much for shipping as the overpriced light.
When stick led strip, just start from outside by this first little hole so adaptor will be outside too.
Ross I completed it but can’t seem to post the finish. Mate !!! I absolutely love it. It’s worked out amazing. Can’t thank you enough. Would love to show u mines !!
Hey man get at me on twitter! @clashoftungsten
@@ClashOfTheTungsten cheers man
Sick channel Ross! hope you are doing well mate
Thanks! You too!
Hi mate I really want to make this but the link for the brackets is no longer available, I’ve checked wickes website and those brackets aren’t there anymore. I wonder if they have stop selling those or maybe they are only in store?
How far from the board should the rim be?
You could get 3 pieces of hollow tube to put under the brackets and get it permanently set up
Morning Ross, hope you're well. I'm Sat here eating mcdonalds breakfast watching in absolute awe. You sir are a genius! And the fact it works just as well as my corona, at 40 quid cheaper. I wish I'd have seen this video first. Top man 👍 fyi- my Corona light ring magnets have come loose already. Poor quality for 6 months old! I would avoid them like coronavirus and will attempt a self build much like yourself
The same thing happened to mine. I super glued them back on but they keep popping out which is why I'm here watching this lol
This really is a good video, My light cost over £100 and is superb but anyone can have a light now for £20, Well explained video, This video should do well.
when cutting the copper, do you have to connect it to the back of another copper ? seems to line up perfectly?
Only if you are connecting them bud cutting it ends the circuit so if you need to reconnect whack a bit Of solder on there and jobs a gooden!
Absolutely fantastic video, would never think of doing this.
My only improvement note, is that I would have the led strip light on the inside edge of the rim. That way all the lights at the board and don't get any glare when standing throwing
Brian I made on the other day, the light strips are impossible to get to bend around the inside edge, so I just stuck some electrical tape on the outside edge to hide the glare 😀
@@MrTronny72 can you post a photo or video? I’m curious…did you use one long piece of tape?
How close is your rim/dartboardlight to dartboard???
Patent it,And sell them £30 I'll have one. Great job
That’s nice thinking of doing this now 😅
Go for it fella that's why I made it!
Dart Vader - Ring lightsaber
The new tight lite, by broke ass home owner, great video, my broke ass willbuild one next week
Why not use old rim spokes like a bracets to fix into dartboard or cabinet??
Remove all and then pull back 4 of them into right four places/holes already done.
Anyway, there is plenty longer bracets, flexi aswel and can be use as.
Ross you should it the rossarona only because Ross made a corona
Could have fed the led power connection through the air valve hole to keep it tidier?
I did in the end mate x
I'd call it rimlight because it's made from a rim and it almost sounds like ring light xD
I love the light system but having a bulb above the board with shadows and all is so nostalgic
Can you get them to run off a battery as I don't have a plug socket nest to my board :-(
Hi Steve! You can but the leds are a lot less stronger as they run off usb 5v power supply!
@@ClashOfTheTungsten okay thanks for your help
Oh no! Where was the intro?
Can you see the light when your playing like the led lights
Not really if i am honest I dont really notice it if im honest!
It's look nice. What a diameter of wheel?
26 buddy x
@@ClashOfTheTungsten Wow thx
I stick my led strip light on the back of rim without any problem. And I get longer brackets and fix into the wall like winmau plasma. Its for good, but rim need to be big enough. 26" is not enough, need 27/28 but hard to get so big rim..
I don’t get what you mean on the back of the rim?
@@ClashOfTheTungsten back, not inside around. Light must go into dartboard not into your eyes like on this video.
@@bestpeter78 it’s not in your eyes it’s on the rim in the middle
@@ClashOfTheTungsten but you still see the light god sick....bright my eyes
I'm gonna do this
names "alright surround" alternatively "allight"
Hahahaha! I like that idea!!
wouldn't it have been better to use the strip on the inside of the rim. wouldn't it have been better to stick the strip on the inside of the rim? now there is so much light shining towards you?
Name: Blender. ;) I would have put it facing to the inside towards the board so it doesn't dazzle in the eyes and its protected from misfired darts.
14:21😅😅😅
There is also LED strip with usb so with some power bank you dont need plug in into sone socets wich sometimes is far away..
Ps.i dont understand why everybody stock led strim inside a rim? Can go on the back, they are fexible enough and will bright perfectly your dartboard not your eyes!
Also not 360° , but 270° this is what Mission torus done.Best light ever with easy acces to pull out your darts! 270 degrese is enough to bright your dartboard and no shadows at all as the light is close enough, this is the secret of all lights for dartboards.
So sorry to the guy at number 24 with a missing wheel, I’ll replace it one day 😂
Seriously that’s amazing - I love a diy project and this is next on my list. I’m looking to add some camera and build a computer visioned based system to track hits too 😎
Call it "Wheely"
you dont need all those washers between the gap in the rim... the bracket will pull up to the rim with 1 washer under the nut.... id call it... Rim Light
Tbh I’m disappointed you haven’t done your intro phrase... crying myself to sleep tonight for sure! Hehe x
Sarky bastard you are lucky I like you x
AlRight
Should call it rimmer lol
You selling that mate im Fucking useless 😎 top job. Great vid
There is no 2m strip? 2m is enough.
As I said in my video I couldn’t get 2m on Amazon prime hence why I purchased 5. I did say in the video that the whole 5m isn’t needed
@@ClashOfTheTungsten thats right, they dont sale 2m, only 5m and 10m.
5m without dimmer for only 7.99 pounds, with dimmer 12
@@ClashOfTheTungsten i get that and there is only 50 lights/bulbs... 6000k but 1000-1200 lumens...its ok, but not that strong like mission torus or corona light...a bit disapointed...
@@bestpeter78 it’s nearly 3x cheaper than both of those lights 😂 why are you still replying 3 weeks after your first comment has this video really annoyed you that much 😂😂
@@ClashOfTheTungsten because I can
