Im just looking forward to next year mwave or cedia, for me to come and see this in person, and see if its worth switching over from oled tv to immersion size and slightly worse blacks
I wish they would provide this HDR TONE MAPPING GEN2 firmware update for the NX series 😢. I get it they are in business to make money and want people to buy the new laser projectors.
I’ve seen many NX owners very displeased that it does seem as JVC is mostly concentrating on improving NZ series only. I’m hoping maybe there’s a FW version for the Bulb variants soon enough
Anyone here remember the Sony Qualia line? It's been about 20 years since I look at projectors but back then the Sony's competed with the Runco's and Vidikron which were twice the price. I'm not sure any of them still do projectors but they were the best back then.
When he says its shooting on a 165” screen, is that diagonal ? It looks bigger to me but could be deceiving. And is 200” going to really look good ? I just purchased a NZ9 and am planning to go 175” scope or 185” 16:9 and can’t make up my mind. Watching this video it makes me want to go 200”……lol
My recommendation is to setup your NZ9 and try different sizes and see what provides the most immersive, yet comfortable size for your seating distance. I’m 9’ from 150” diagonal in 2.35:1 and love it
@johndurante802 let me know what size you decide on and how far your viewing distance is. I have never heard anyone say they went with too large of a screen. But I’ve heard plenty of people saying they wish they would’ve went bigger.
I would love a side by side with the new Sony ones v. the Epson. They are all very good. Native 4k is really the only way to go though. IMO. I have been going back and forth between the new Epson and the Sony. Its a shame Sony didn't put motorized lens on the less expense model.
That’s easy. Come to MWAVE 2024. For the past two years we have had side-by-side blind comparisons between Sony 5000, 6000, 7000, JVC NZ7, NZ8, NX9 and Epson LS12000. Dates and info here - midwestavexperience.com
@@Youthman Looking forward to it. I've had the NZ9 since it launched so certainly not complaining. I do however feel like there's a big gap between something like the NZ9 and then stepping up to the likes of Barcos or Christies. Not only in terms of price, but also noise and size. The market could use a sensibly sized 5-6k lumen high native contrast PJ from JVC. It won't be cheap obviously, but maybe not priced as high as Barco/Christie and better contrast to boot!
What’s up with the big step backwards in contrast ratio for JVC’s projectors? I intentionally purchased the 4K-eshift projector, DLA-RS540, over their native 4K projectors due to it’s much greater native contrast ratio of 130,000:1. (The higher contrast ratio was more important to me than native 4K vs e-shift 4K.) This top of the line NZ9 still hasn’t caught up to the previous e-shift models. What the heck?!? It’s as if there’s something inherent in the new 4K chips that’s less capable when it comes to contrast. It’s kind of discouraging and hard to consider these projectors upgrades to the older models (which have superior contrast), especially for that kind of coin.
The problem with the eshift projectors IMO is their black levels are just not there, they seem a bit washed and more gray then black. I agree with you on the contrast though. They are brighter for the most part.
Michael, thank you so so much for bringing such great contact especially in regards to JVC. Congratulations on your new purchase of the NZ8. I am myself a.m. in the in the market for a new projector, but I am caught between the NP5 in the NZ7. I will be projecting on a Cinemascope screen, 135 inch diagonal acoustically transparent. I have read, and . I’ve been told that the NP5 can come very close if not equal the NZ seven. The only real difference is the laser versus the Bulb based technology. What are your thoughts on this. I really don’t want to spend the extra dollars for the NZ7. I don’t put a lot of hours on my projector as it is as I’m only watching maybe 5 to 6 hours worth a week. What are your thoughts on this Michael. Thanks again for all your work. Love your videos keep it up.
Thank you Dave. I have not seen the NP5 to know how it compares with the NZ7. Once you decide on which model you want, feel free to reach out to us - midwestavexperience.com/sales/
The JVC black is only better than that of other projectors if you have little brightness in a frame (picture). Adding bright pixels will damage the JVC black more than the black of other projectors. In brighter scenes many projectors have better contrast and blacks than JVC. So the reality is a little more complex than it seems in that clip. Having said this: the NZ9 is a fantastic projector. The NZ9 is clearly the best projector that JVC has ever built IMO. I am an owner myself. It's the first JVC that I really like. Might even say love 😀 The update has lots of potential IMO. Thank you JVC ! I am particularly looking forward to finer controlling of the laser power (light output). That'll be the same like with the Sony laser projectors. These provide that since years. The FA Gen2 is certainly an improvement over Gen 1 . However that was not that good anyway. If you want really the best DTM for your projector you will find it with madVR.
Hey brother. I learned at from your channel/info. Wanted to upgrade to an 8k. Like the JVC😊. I wanted to sell my NEVER use 4K Sony I bought a few years back. I redid my basement, had it mounted and was just projecting onto a 150” electric screen. Use it for LESS than 30 minutes or so. I got a ceiling fan in front that is blocking the full view. I have been using a Sony 85” 4K TV and hope you can guide me to sell it. Thanks keep up the great job. 👍
150" is way too big of a screen for these projectors to get decent brightness. I had the JVC NX7 with a 130" and that was pushing it. Obviously, just my opinion.
I have the 695 Sony Front Projector. Not home right now but will recheck the model. Bought it from Projector People I believe 8k. I will see if I can post a picture if Youthman allows Goes up to 300”. NATIVE 4K (4096X2160)
@@Jacob-ed1bl Wow I never expected that to be honest, I had always thought they could go to 170. Did you have it as close as possible and in a dark black room?
Take a look at bit.ly/projector_calculator_audio_advice. Depending on the gain of your screen, throw distance and aspect ratio, it will show you the max screen size you can use and still obtain HDR levels.
He said the content was filmed in native 8K not that the projector was native 8K. So not a true native 8K image but it still looks amazing on UA-cam and in person.
@@erod9088 According to an ophthalmologistic study, the human eye can tell the difference between 8K and 4K resolution, with 8K seeming more realistic. But you are correct, humans cannot see the number of pixels onscreen present in an 8K image. Most people cannot resolve the full amount of pixels present in 4K content.
Look at the reviews and performance of the NZ30. It has terrible contrast and black levels. Sure it has ok lag and brightness, but the color gamut is low and it uses a super old .47 DLP chip. It got best of show because its a JVC. I bet it looks absolutely horrific at the rated 3300 lumens in dynamic mode.

Buying a JVC-NP5... Cant wait to experience the amazing picture in my theater... Also love the passion Patrick has for the product!

The footage was provided to me by JVC. You have a GORGEOUS country.

JVC typically introduces new products about every three years. If that stays true, that would place it sometime next year.
