  • In this video, we discuss the Confederate States of America, a short lived republic that split from the United States over the issue of slavery. Through its four years of existence, it operated as in independent republic, while fighting a bitter war against the country it had seceded from
    EDIT
There's a spelling error at 2:51. Inauguration is in fact spelled inauguration, and not inaguration. I am deeply ashamed and will go and sit in the naughty corner

The fate of Union prisoners of war in southern captivity was particularly harsh, highlighting how ill-prepared the Confederacy was to manage its affairs.

It was blockade and the war against civilian by Union generals that led to the death of Yankee soldiers. On top of this the CSA even offer to give injured and sick prisoners to Grant without exchanges but he denied this.

22% of total men of fighting age in the CSA were killed in the war.
    CSA KIA: 250,000
    Union KIA: 360,000

3:11 Ironically, it allowed for export taxes if two thirds voted for them, while export taxes are explicitly prohibited by the U.S. Constitution specifically because southerners didn’t want them at the time. Tariffs were also said to be for revenue only and not for protectionism.
