All these people talking shit like anyone in the band is going to give a fuck.
These guys have been at this for 20 years. They're not hard-headed street punks anymore. Most of them have families and are nearing middle age.
To me, the progression of their music from tough oi/street punk to a more folk-driven sound is from their own growth and changes in life. Music is a living, breathing thing and it evolves like anything else that's alive. The dedication that these guys have put into their music deserves nothing but respect, because despite people who want to keep them in a small niche of music, they've allowed themselves to expand and grow.
Cheers to Dropkick. Looking forward to more from them.

Face down in the gutter won't admit defeat
Though his clothes are soiled and black
    He's a big strong man with a child's mind
Don't you take his booze away, hey
He's been at it for years drinkin' balls and beers
He's a hero to most he meets
    But inside he cries black
Swollen eyes this man he sheds no tears
Now his wife and kids sing a different tune
As they worry about their daddy dyin'
But this arrogant fool breaks every rule
It'll be nothing but pride that kills him
Could he listen, no he won't that's all she wrote
He'll be dead before the daylight shines
'Cause the thoughts and prayers of a million strong
Might keep this boy from dying
Could he listen, no he won't that's all she wrote
He'll be dead before the daylight shines
'Cause the thoughts and prayers of a million strong
Might keep this boy from dying
He's a legend in the bar with every scar
    Fights a thousand bigger men
Now he fights and looses got all the bruises
    Will someone please step in?
This Irish fools got a great big heart
He keeps climbing back into the ring
In the low down circles where he holds his court
This man he once was king
Could he listen, no he won't that's all she wrote
He'll be dead before the daylight shines
'Cause the thoughts and prayers of a million strong
Might keep this boy from dying
Could he listen, no he won't that's all she wrote
He'll be dead before the daylight shines
'Cause the thoughts and prayers of a million strong
Might keep this boy from dying
{This one goes out to the Boston punks and skins, varies from CD
This one goes out to everyone at six fifty six Adams street
    How you doin'? Fellas}
He's a legend in the bar with every scar

I swear this is a tribute to my old man, he was born and raised in Charlestown. I remember when I was 18 (legal age in Canada) he and my mom took me out to get my first legal drinks. Someone was dancing too close to my mom & I watched him smash a beer pitcher over the guys head and beat the shit out of both the bouncers that came at him. It was at that moment I realized I will NEVER be Boston tough. Rest easy Big Dave, you were a true bar room hero.

    • @iamthemiracle81
      @iamthemiracle81 Рік тому +6

Feel the same about me old man. Tough as nails. His nickname was kick. Later in life when I was in my 20s and had a chip on my shoulder he pulled me aside and told me that he never looked for wars he never wanted to fight but when it was time to he danced the dance. Bar room battles are never something to brag about but if and when shit breaks out there's certain guys you want on your side. Big Jer was one of em. Our dad's were cut from the same cloth. May they rest in power. Just saw Dropkick last night. It's been years. They played Rose Tattoo which is a super heart hitting tune for me. Was wicked. Cheers and much love lad🤜🍀🤛

19 years ago, July 1996, DKM released their split 7inch with Ducky Boys, which was the first release ever for both bands and featured Barroom Hero, a song most of us likely first heard on the first Give 'Em the Boot album. .

The following albums they released are all well and good. Cheers to any and everyone who knocks back a pint or 12 while listening to em. But my fav hands down is and has been "Do Or Die", greats songs and I really liked the original singers voice and all around stage presence. Plus when I hear "Barroom Hero" I'm instantly teleported back to 1997-98 when I first heard it in high school.

Man, i love this song. it always reminds me of the times when i was high as a kite the whole time. Sometimes i got so wasted i didn't even know my own name anymore. But then, one day, i lowered my glass and said to mysel "Mike, you can't go on that way! you have to stop drinking RIGHT NOW!" Sure, it is not easy to stop right away. To make that decision will change a whole life, i can tell you that. So here i am. 15 years older. Looking back at what has been. My name is still not Mike and i am drunk as fck.

This song has always been about regulators for me (I think of the wives and husband's of emergency response professionals, but before it was policy and a public job, it was volunteer, and the troublemaking Irish started as far as my history knows it). As gentle and kind as brute when force is needed, not an easy line to walk. Love the way you have told these stories to be remembered and to remind. ❤️

    Will someone please step in?
'Cause this Irish fools got a great, big heart
He keeps climbin' back in to the ring, hey, hey, hey
In the low down circles where he holds his court
This man he once was king
Could he listen, no, he won't, that's all she wrote
He'll be dead before the daylight shines
But the thoughts and prayers of a million strong
Might keep this fool from dying
Could he listen, no, he won't, that's all she wrote
He'll be dead before the daylight shines
But the thoughts and prayers of a million strong
Might keep this fool from dying.

I actually prefer mcColgans voice. For dropkick murphys songs now, I'd prefer to hear Ken Casey's vocals then Al Barrs. I don't know why. I just do. I like McColgan's band Street Dogs too.
