No matter how many Christmas’s go by this gets me in a good mood
It's a Christmas novelty-song, it makes us laugh and it reminds us of the bad and the good that come with Christmastime. But if it get's you in a good mood, than you know bloody damn well it's done it's job! Merry Christmas, to one and all!
Same . I always feel blessed when I watch this video , because I ain't kin of none of them Or the nutty ones in Wales Dylan Thomas wrote about .🎅🎄😊
@@v.dargain1678 A reference to "A Child's Christmas in Wales" by Dylan Thomas, very good!
@@lordbarristertimsh8050 Thank you and Merry Christmas !! I hate Dylan Thomas stuff , but I love the CHILD'S CHRISTMAS IN WALES STORY .
The music video really sells it that even though your family is nuts and gets on your nerves you still love them in the end because hey, they're your family.
It's 2023 and still as good as when it came out
Facts
Truer words never spoken
It's real. Centered to our souls. Try harder and let the others laugh at you, but take it in love ... the season's upon, there's plenty of cheer
Yarggh!!!
Too true 🍀
My Aunt Cathy died... Almost the last link to this song of our Christmas of greatness. How I love this song and miss my Christmas's in the 70's in NJ
I listen to this song every year and think about my family Christmas get togethers. My fathers parents split and both remarried, my mothers mother had thirteen sisters and six brothers. Her house looked like the Griswold house on steroids for the last two weeks of December. Sixteen bickering aunts and uncles, tons of kids screaming and shouting, a few pets that couldnt be left at home but damnwell cant stand each other. It was a madhouse and drove us all nuts but we did it because it was tradition.
And I am here to tell you, remember these years. Remember when your third aunt burned the hell out of her casserole but everyone had to pretend to stomach it. Remember the youngest cousin accidentally falling and crushing someone elses gift taking presents to people. Remember your granddad going back fifty years to tell a half-remembered Christmas story of his childhood. They havent felt normal in the last several and I dont mean Covid, I have a lot less Aunts and Uncles and no grandfathers left. The kids are all grown and starting families and live too far away to attend. I know these may make you wanna pull your hair out now, but when everyones dead, gone or unavailable, you'll miss it.
I miss it. I miss them.
Great post!
Foughtwolf;
Your post made me flashback to my childhood, where we would all gather at grandmas. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day because, we always did it that way.
People came in shifts. It was so crowded you had to plan your movements.
There was a kids table, and you knew you arrived when you got into the dinning room.
Card table with all the booze on it.
The kids trying to sneak a swig now and then.
All fish on Eve, and pasta and roast beef on the day.
Those were the best Christmas’ of my life. Most are gone.
We really don’t appreciate those times fully until they are past.
Thank you for your post.
absolutely made my day!
You can write, dude!
Great sentiment. Every year as I get older I notice less and less people around at Christmas compared to my childhood. I'm only 28 but time creeps on all of us. The sooner you realise the better because you can appreciate the time more. Every Christmas I now set up a video camera in the main room and let it run for an hour or two so I can watch them in the twilight of my life. I have done this the past three years. It helps. Stay safe mate.
As an Irish Catholic, I get more emotional listening to this than I think its supposed to be.
Nah, man. You get just as emotional as you should.
😁
What part of Ireland are you from?
Why the need to label yourself and declare it to the world?
@kefir u ponoć Why the need to share your personal misery with the world?
10 yrs later and still a favorite 🎄
And when it’s all said and done, no matter how dysfunctional, it’s all about love of family and being together. Cheers to the Dropkick Murphys!
I come to listen to this song every year in December Because I love the essence of this song about Family and enjoy it very much Though I am not Irish , Christian and from completely different cultures. Merry Christmas!
Every Christmas time, this is the first song that needs to be played.
As a public school teacher, I put this song on the projector during every passing period.
Yes by god yes
This followed by The Kinks Father Christmas!!

Along with Fairytale of New York
Growing up in an Irish family, there were always certain traditions at Christmas....always at least one fist fight, always a song that got all the men crying and always an inexhaustible supply of booze. Slainte Mhath, everyone.
Don’t forget the end where everyone makes up and wakes up 🤣
If ya don’t fight with your family on Christmas or during the holidays something is really wrong
Your profile pic is so angry!
Yeah it’s always because someone decides they should go buy a crazy amount of alcohol before showing up
@@jacksongatens2419 In our family, there were only two categories of booze.....too much and not enough and not enough was never an option. Many, many times I saw my old man and one other guy sit down with a 40oz bottle and the first thing they'd do is throw the lid in the garbage.
Just discovered this song THIS MORNING, and now I can't stop playing it. 🎉❤️🔥
Merry Christmas, AvaMan182. I discovered this last year and still can't stop listening to it...
I just discovered it five minutes ago, and I have no idea how I stumbled upon it. I love it. Have a great holiday season!!! :)
@@mier37 It just keeps getting better year after year.
yep!
Sameeee they just played this in our kickboxing class and I ran to search it the moment I got back into the car 😂
I did not grow up Irish Catholic (non-religious Italian, here), but when Christmas time comes around and the melancholy of family dysfunction comes creepin' up, this song somehow makes it more manageable.
Thank you, Dropkick Murphys, and Happy Holidays!

Only "Christmas song" I can stand listening to in months other than December. Great song for dysfunctional families!
try xm@s by corey taylor, you may not like his typical stuff but that song is a fantastic piece of work
Try The Pogues- Fairytale of New York.
You've never listened to Trans Siberian Orchestra then. Nobody rocks Christmas harder.
What about August burns red carol of the bells, or dance of the sugar plum fairies
Haha so true
10 years down the road and this song still brings a tear to the eye to all the mischievous and mayhem causing loved ones we've lost in the interim.
It's such a brutally, yet beautifully, honest acceptance of the many faults of those we love (and ourselves for that matter)
Merry Christmas everyone.
This song is made for days when you'll rather have a genuine silent night than another sappy carol. But while Christmas is often far from perfect, I love this holiday. Season's Greetings all, and may we find health and happiness in 2022.
You aswell
🥂
May lights burn bright in these dark long nights. May all have peace and health, contentment in whatever way you celebrate.
Here here
Cheers
And '23 Jane, God bless.
Happy Holidays to you too, friend. Hopefully 2023 is a sight better.
Nothing kicks off the season like this song
The most brutally honest Christmas carol in human history.
My family's worse than this
Joseph Hunter you should see mine
Fourth year running I'm checking in here. Love seeing the new comments. This is a good one, Stephen.
Nah, it's purposefully over the top. The songwriter bitches about his family like everyone does, but just look at the music video. It's clear the DKM's have a deep fondness and love for their families too.
i prefer this over the weird silence
I don't have a family, never had one.. I have discovered dropkick murphys a few years ago and since then I love them and all of you, the real fans of theirs. I could only dream of a Christmas like this. I am listening to this song every time I feel the need to have a family and it doesn't matter if it's June, April or August. this song fills my heart with love and joy. love you all DM fans from all over the world! I hope we'll meet someday at a DM concert. peace and love and a merry Christmas to you and your beloved ones
I love this song because this was my dysfunctional family back in the 70's... Going to my grandmothers house was always like this around the holidays... You would have been more than welcomed there.. I really miss those times
My disfuctional family welcomes you to spend Christmas with us. Btw, we a bit 🤏like this
We are an Irish family you are always welcome there's ALWAYS room for one more my friend
@@ryanfinley3304 Thank you from the bottom of my heart! I would love to meet you and your family someday! Are you from Ireland or USA? Merry Christmas in advance!

Christmas Eve 2021. I watch this clip every year. It never gets dated. I'd like to say I don't do Christmas carols, but to me, this is THE Christmas carol, and if you don't believe me, spend a Christmas Eve dinner at my sister in laws. The only things guaranteed are crap food, opinions, arguments and me vowing never to spend another freakin' moment in their presence...
Happy Christmas. Let's go Murphys!
Love it. Merry x mas
There's such a weird wholesomeness wrapped around all the dysfunctionality of it all, you know?
Same here!
Every Xmas, and once for every family event where I'm forced to be polite out of respect to other members of the family. 🤙 Cheers you crazy bastards, Merry Fucking Xmas!
merry christMAZ, YOU FILTHY ANIMAL.
“I’d like to take them out back and deck more than the halls”
Pure Genius!
I love this video. It's like the director came in and said: we'll make this one look like you didn't hire a director at all. And it works so well! Awesome family feels
How can you not like Irish folk songs no matter where you're roots are. Amusing, real and comical. I love this song. How true!
This is truly timeless! Should I live another 50 years, this'll still be my holiday anthem! 😁
Its the 1st december 2022 and this song is played on repeat the whole day. It has been a tradition to me since it has been released.
Every year I think of the years, I heard it ago.
Every year I remember, what me and my family did those years.
And every year I remember my childhood-christmas with a huge family of my parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins.
Now we're all grown up, have kids of our own, some relatives are gone...
But man, I always loved christmas as a kid with mum, dad and my siblings on holy night and then on 25/26 with the the whole family at grandma's house... About 45 people in a small christmas wonderland, split into the kids table with sweets and the adult tables with cigarettes, beer, liquor and all that good stuff...
Those were great times but now, our christmas traditions of my own little family are also wonderful... And i do my best to pass on this special feeling and this great music to the next generation. One day I tell my kids that there are plenty of awesome and wonderfull christmas songs, but this one here is the best of all, because it's the only realistic one - you HATE christmas with your big ass family but on the other hand it is the most epic thing that happens to you in the whole year. Enjoy it as long as you can.
And for those, who read this long text:
I wish you all the best and have a very merry christmas!
Grettings from Germany!
🎄 merry christmas from france ... 🎅
Merry Christmas from Norway!
Merry Christmas from Scotland 🏴....🥶🤶🌲
Merry Christmas and happy days!
The top of the Christmas playlist every year. Absolute masterpiece
Sometimes we just don’t appreciate those times and things until they are gone forever except way back in the mind where they cause us to smile and laugh and be glad we had them once when videos like this cause them to surface.
1:44 The look on Casey's face when a priest comes to his house lol. Priceless! Love this, I need this for my Christmas playlist lol.
It’s this time all. Time to share this great song and video. Raises a beer to all! And we all know it’s not too early for this masterpiece!! 🍻🍻🍻🍻
Every 23rd of December I paly this song on loop while Im packing my presents, smiling, cause the lyrics are 100% about my family. Im doing it now and Ill keep this tradition for ever :)

I've never needed this Christmas song more
As a life-long Mass. resident, and having lived in Boston for a few years, I've met all the archetypes here, and I can say these folks certainly *look* authentic Boston Irish.
The step-dancing girls are just adorable. Grandpa getting a hug and kiss at the end - they have to be family.
+Dave Stone Dude...I think I know some of these nut cases! lol
They are from Forbes Dance Academy in Quincy, Mass
Im from ireland and Bostonians are more irish that us haha
Dave Stone they're pretty damn straight up Irish.
dulez
No they aren't. Ireland is the most Irish place there is.
I will be listening to this song every day during December.
Merry Christmas to the legends still jamming this in 2023! ❄️ ⛄️ 🎄
And to you. 🎅
"I'd like to take them out back and deck more than the halls" easily the best fucking line ever
I’ve always thought he said “I’d like to take him out back and deck him right through the halls”
Which made me laugh way more than the actual lyric Lol
I've tested positive for covid on Christmas Eve so all my plans to meet up with my friends and family have been cancelled. but playing this song has made life easier for some reason. Thankyou from the bottom of my heart. Happy Christmas to you all
Feel better
I can see why you would be here after having that happen to you.
At least you got an excuse to be all alone on Xmas Eve....some like me, just don't got anybody....
@@jis87BE Sorry about that.
Feel better soon!
This song speaks to many, myself included. Because the holidays just aren't complete without family fights, drunken shenanigans and songs comprising equal parts sorrow and mirth. Happy Holidays to everyone, and may the new year be a bountiful one for us all.
The Greatest Christmas song of all time!👍⛄🎄
I love listening to this every year, right up there with Robert Earl Keen's Christmas song. Merry Christmas to you all, may God's light shine on you.

Best Christmas song ever! Merry Christmas everyone in 2021! I'll be playing this every Christmas till I'm in the dirt.
God be Blessin' the Dropkick Murphys!!! Christmas to Ya'll!!!
This has to be the greatest Christmas song ever written.
True except for X-M@$ by Corey Taylor
It's brilliant, bit still holding Fairytale of New York's beer.
nope merry christmas i dont want to fight tonight by ramones is better

Holy hell this was absolutely perfect.
Would do anything to have one more Christmas like this back in the 70's.. Miss my family like this growing up
I’m in an Irish Catholic family. Can’t see anything you missed describing it.
Damn Straight!
oh my god you were switched at birth.
A cop, a priest, a picture of Kennedy, and some sort of fighting are required. My little brothers were just like the kids in white polos. They used to loved to pee in the display toilets in Sears.
A True Paddy’s household

Still my favourite Christmas song. I've listened to it every Christmas Day since 2013
Ah, a fellow coinsure of culture.
@@bruisedhelmet8819 At least it's semi - sorta - kinda realistic, no families that look like they fell out of a Hallmark greeting card.
Wesołych Świąt! Szczęść Boże!
I can't get over his face when the Priest is at the door.
That's what I said! I realized it reminds me of Jonathon Winters.
And how the priest was using the Sunday collection proceeds as his stake in the poker game.
I took that as his winnings were going INTO that Sunday Collection envelope!
@@Roccondil It's both. He put the church roof fund up, and went home with everyone's money.

why do people dislike this? one of the best christmas songs out there cheers
Love it!!!!
I wonder how his family feel about it..
because it's too real.
The lyrics sound mean until you see the video and realize that this family is close, for all of their rowdiness and flaws. Merry Christmas to all!
Probably his sisters, their husbands and kids lol
Already listened to this song 50 000 times and its still the best Christmas song ever.

Cheers lad, happy holidays
And to you! Let's hope we finally get it together in 2020.
merry merry ya filthy drunks
The season's upon us, it's that time of year
Brandy and eggnog, there's plenty of cheer
There's lights on the trees
And there's wreaths to be hung
There's mischief and mayhem
And songs to be sung
There's bells and there's holly, the kids are gung-ho
True love finds a kiss beneath fresh mistletoe
Some families are messed up while others are fine
If you think yours is crazy
Well you should see mine
My sisters are whack-jobs, I wish I had none
Their husbands are losers and so are their sons
My nephew's a horrible, wise little twit
He once gave me a nice gift wrapped box full of shit
He likes to pelt carolers with icy snow balls
I'd like to take him out back
And deck more than the halls
With family like this, I would have to confess
I'd be better off lonely, distraught and depressed
The season's upon us, it's that time of year
Brandy and eggnog, there's plenty of cheer
There's lights on the trees
And there's wreaths to be hung
There's mischief and mayhem and songs to be sung
They call this Christmas where I'm from
My mom likes to cook, push our buttons and prod
My brother just brought home another big broad
The eyes roll and whispers come loud
From the kitchen I'd come home more often
If they'd only quit bitching
Dad, on the other hand's a selfish old sod
Drinks whiskey alone with my miserable dog
Who won't run or fetch, yeah, he couldn't care less
He defiled my teddy bear and left me the mess
The season's upon us, it's that time of year
Brandy and eggnog, there's plenty of cheer
There's lights on the trees
And there's wreaths to be hung
There's mischief and mayhem and songs to be sung
They call this Christmas where I'm from
The table's set, we raise a toast
The Father, Son and the Holy Ghost
I'm so glad this day only comes once a year
You can keep your opinions, your presents, your “Happy New Year”
They call this Christmas where I'm from
They call this Christmas where I'm from

The only chrismas song i listen to all year long,
It makes a swell back to back with The Pogues "Fairytale of New York"
Those two naughty nephews really must the singer's impersonation when he was a kid.
What shines through though throughout, is the respect for the musicians and their instruments
Just hearing this for the first time, I love it! 😄

I grew up in a strongly Irish Catholic family. Once we outgrew Santa the focus shifted to midnight Mass. my first date was to midnight Mass. we had to stand because, back then, you always gave up your seat to older people.
I listen to this song every year and it captures my family perfectly 😂
Just stumbled on this. One of the greatest and accurate depictions of Irish-American life I've ever seen. Keepin it real so to speak.
Beautiful. Having that many people over your house this year will get you in trouble. Merry Christmas and here is to a much better 2021

I'm so happy this ecstatic Gaelic upload is still in fructification here on UA-cam since its inaugural in 2013 :'-) It wouldn't be Christmas without the madness and dysfunctional antics of Dropkick Murphys commencing the holiday season with their classic song The Seasons Upon Us.
