    Thanks Tom. Its shocking how much it adds up to when you put it on paper. You can ease your mind a bit when you consider there are competitors travelling from Australia and Canada. I arrived at St Malo but my bike decided to stay at Schipol. Try again in 2024 😁

      Hi Steve, I remember that happening, must have been most frustrating and disappointing. Did you get the bike back okay in the end?
      They are expensive events but worth it for the experience and memories. You would probably spend a fair amount in spar 🤣

    That Travelodge at Llandudno caught a few people out - £130! I paid considerably less staying at The Grand Hotel, 2 nights for the price of 1! Last hotel before you The Great Orme, which was considerably useful!
    Nice tips video - seems odd to post in October about it but I guess the next PCR route will be just around the corner. 🤔

    The biggest surprise for me was food - £40 a day seems a lot, but when you haven’t got time to plan your food stops, probably realistic 😮

    • @CycleXplorer
      @CycleXplorer  Рік тому +1

      You may be able to do it slightly cheaper but this was breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. Depending upon where I was the price varied. It was actually a lot harder than anticipated to get food in Brittany and so it was often the case of buying what you can! 200miles+ a day does get you though a rathe large amount 😋

      @nearlee2000 Рік тому +1

      To be fair, I also did this race, and I reckon my food bill was a lot more than yours, however my accommodation costs for whole event was £240, and I was in St malo a few days before and air bnb my way round

    • @CycleXplorer

      @@nearlee2000 I think they just goes to show the variation in approaches and ways of getting it done. Which for me makes these types of event even more interesting to do and follow. Any plans for this year?

    • @nearlee2000
      @nearlee2000 Рік тому +1

      @cyclexplore, loads of different approaches to this type of event, its a personal choice and what works for yourself.
      Plan to ride the pcr again this year, but also hoping to do the 200, 300, 400 and 600k audaxs as well 🤦🤣

    Thanks for your videos, very informative. Question I have is on your Pan Celtic, did you have a dyno on your bike or rely on power banks? You said you slept mostly outdoors so I guess you had a dyno? Thx.

    • @CycleXplorer
      @CycleXplorer  Рік тому +1

      Hi. I used 2 power banks. A fast charge 10k one and an older 10k anker one. I used the anker for the garmin and the fast charge one on my phone.
      Night one: outdoors
      Night two: outdoors
      Night three: hideous hotel - big rain - recharged
      Night four: outdoors - freezing - see new sleeping mat review 🤣
      Night five: ferry/short time in hotel recharged
      Night six: rode through to end.
      My light is an exposure, which has a long battery life.
      I now have a 27k ankle battery that charges in an hour and can also charge my exposure. I’m planning on using that at the atlas mountain race. In part because I didn’t want to shell out on a mtb dynamo wheel I might use for one event.
      I’ve not used a dynamo. I can see the benefit for endless light. But you can go several days without a recharge, especially if you plan to sleep some of the night and given how many hours of daylight there are in summer. Phone battery lasts a long time if you’re not on it a lot.
      Pros and cons of each and they can both go wrong in their own ways.
      Whatever you opt for give yourself some time to test it out.

      @@CycleXplorer Thank you for your great reply. Looks like you did pretty well on the Pan Celtic, well done! The 2024 will be my first so training hard at the moment and trying to get my equipment sorted. Again thank you, very helpful indeed. All the best and good luck in your future events.

    • @CycleXplorer

      Yes it was more than I thought it would be. I think it this was because it started in another country. I expect insurance for the event this year will be less as it is all in the UK. There were some cheaper options but this company was recommended.

    Entry fee - what a rip off!

    • @CycleXplorer
      @CycleXplorer  7 місяців тому

      Just a cost of doing an organised event, which included various bits like the tracker, ferry, checkpoints, checked route etc. You can of course ride anywhere for free, which is most of my riding, but the feeling of being in an event, doing it with others makes it a different experience.
