I first heard this version in 2009, while on a converted rice boat, cruising through the backwaters of Kerala, India. We had anchored for the evening, in a remote section, in the middle of the rice fields, no roads, only paths, that locals were walking back home after spending the day working the fields. My sister-in-law had this on her MP3 player hooked up to the decent sound system on the boat. It was dusk, quiet except for this song, with Van's voice dominating the moment. The local Indian people, who really couldn't understand the words, all stopped listening to this incredible song, and by the end, the crowd was over 50 people, in their dhotis, just mesmerized. The universal language of music, breaking all cultural and language barriers, a truly magical moment in my life.
Went to that concert as a baby faced 16 year old all the way from Glasgow with 2 mates and a 9bar block of hash, remember a tear in my eye when this was played…best concert in my life
Sir Moan A lot quite a lot back then it was a 3 day trip & one of my mates whiteyed in the cue and missed the concert …I couldn’t even smoke a roach these days without hiding under the bed wondering if peas grow on trees or not 😂
Antony Clark haha! We all get there eventually. If I smoke too much these days, my wife ends up finding me in the corner trying to peel myself like an orange.

Just for the record, there is no Robbie Robertson and The Band on this stage. If so, Robbie would be performing the solos performed by the great Dave Kilminster and Snowy White. However, there is a Levon Helm sighting (The Band's drummer), who is responsible for the wrecked band that existed prior to the Last Waltz (Marty's great gig in the sky). Due to COVID restrictions, I will not address Van Morrison.
I love David Gilmour, but those hating on Van are drinking serious delusion. Coming from a Gilmour fan, Van kills this. That voice takes this song to new heights. Amazing how well he sings this live.
Van Morrison is suppose to be so shy but when it comes to performing he is always front and center and takes the lead with his vocals. He is a true great singer.
The child is grown, but the dream lives on! No guru, no method, no teacher, just Van. Special thanks to Martin Scorcese for bringing this song to a new audience.
He did "the last waltz" right, too? Where "Van the man" as Robbie said afterwards, after a rousing take on "Caravan".. Van waltzed out there in a purple jumpsuit threw a few high (low) scissor kicks and mic drooped quarter of a century before it became a thing.. EVERYONE seemed to agree that he set the day alight, "turn up your Raaaaadddio".. Lol.. Sorry. Love it.

Roger Waters, Van Morrison and The Band playing together with only four million views! This will absolutely skyrocket in the next few years. Incredible artists, every one of them
Levon Helm. And Rick Danko. I kept trying to see if any other members of The Band were in there, but they didn't show the other singers/musicians. Richard Manuel died in '86. Robbie Robertson was doing his own thing in 1990, and I suppose if he or Garth Hudson had been playing, they woud've been featured like Helm and Danko...I simply love The Band's vocals - harmonies that send shivers!
This rendition is laughable. All these people plus Van, who is similar to Roger in as far as being a turd personally, none can hold a candle to the supremacy of David Gilmour on this song. Posers.

In an interview in 1992, David had this to say about the 1990 live version of "Comfortably Numb" in Berlin. Snowy White is one of England's best blues guitarist he has heard, Rick DiFonzo's ability to go from metalist, to rock or blues and his ability to hit such pure notes makes him a guitar player's guitarist. He said with Van's vocals added to the song, this is the best rendition he has heard up to now.

One night back in 2004, my friends and I did a bunch of shrooms and we put Comfortably Numb on a loop and blasted it through the house all night long. It was a fucking amazing experience. We all bonded and for a time, lived in another reality. I'll never forget it.
Mr. Morrison really added a different flavor with his vocals, and that is hard to ignore. How could anyone not love him singing Gilmours parts??? He is incredible!
I remember the day this was live so much joy it was tear jerking but when Van sang this i could not believe the emotion it stirred in everyone all this time on every time I hear its always the same goose bumps & chilling & WOW beyond words
He's the greatest guitarist ever in my opinion. I love all his work with Roger in the 'In The Flesh' tour and his performances in The Wall tour. After seeing the wall myself in Italy, and watching and listening to his many solos in the In The Flesh concert, I've tried to copy his style in my guitar playing but he's just too good. Maybe it's his 1957 Les Paul gold top that helps him!
The power of music and this specific version. It is it's own version the horns, and the drums have a pregnant pause that just takes it to a higher level. I love seeing Levon and Danko with Van The Man 🙏💃
I mean I get it, The Wall can't be performed without Comfortably Numb. Apart from Dave and Roger setting aside egos and differences somebody has to cover the parts. I like Van Morrison a lot, but every time I hear this version I cringe. Same as Bryan Adams doing Young Lust, it's just awkward. It's mostly me and my weird tastes. For example I don't like famous covers of Beatle songs. Joe Cocker's version of I Get By With a Little Help From My Friends, is classic, but I hate it. I'm just weird.🤷 Elton John's Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds makes me cringe.
Van’s voice adds so much to this song. It has such a desperate feel to it.

yes i wish they had a cut without van morrison and instead just the band . van morrison sounds akin to why i cant always handle amy winehouse...too damn powerful a voice... and too fucken much . and with all those other musicians... well piss off morrision . id love a version with Roger and the Band only . oh well... RIP Levon Helm... and yes he probably did pull up in his tractor... and white coat aside Rick Danko took a ride...
Good God, what a version.
One night back in 2004, my friends and I did a bunch of shrooms and we put Comfortably Numb on a loop and blasted it through the house all night long. It was a fucking amazing experience. We all bonded and for a time, lived in another reality.
I'll never forget it.
van Morrison killed it! I mean nailed it! best version of this song.
Goose bumps... Van's voice suited soo well...
Fucking legendary. We'll never see anything like this ever again.
Van made everyone sound as his backup singers haha amazing.
only van Morrison could sing it like this ,,,just magic
Yeah only van pulls off the pissed karaoke pub version ....... 😒
Utter crap. One of the most overrated vocalists of all time.
@@johnnyboy2k not crap , Morrison is an absolute fucking genius .
@@ethnicleanserberg7975 He really, really isn't.
Wow what a Great song. Very powerful. My fav version. Thumbs up to this entire band....
One of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard.
There will never be another Van. Brilliant man. Fantastic song.
They used this version on the movie the departed. Just amazing.every musician, vocalist complimenting each other.
Van’s voice is other wordly...
Ian Fitzharris he’s the rock n roll Pavarotti
spiritual
yes well put.
Van Morrison is simply excellent and best version of this song
I miss Levon. Never got upset over a celebrity death until then.
this song needs the grunt that van brings.
Snowy White on guitar is really excellent; he is a very underrated guitarist.
He wrote some incredible songs, listen to his solo work...
+wildwit What's his name????
Terence Charles White
He's the greatest guitarist ever in my opinion. I love all his work with Roger in the 'In The Flesh' tour and his performances in The Wall tour. After seeing the wall myself in Italy, and watching and listening to his many solos in the In The Flesh concert, I've tried to copy his style in my guitar playing but he's just too good. Maybe it's his 1957 Les Paul gold top that helps him!
And also Snowy White work in Wish You Were Here
Too fast and spiky here. This songs needs grace.
He doesn't play what Gilmour doesn't play...
Wow, thats got to be the most powerfull song I has ever heard in my 50 years on this earth
Van is the Man!!
Van Morrisson gives this classic another dimension. It's like standing at the cliffs of Moher hearing the crashing waves.
This is a 10/10.
William M 11/10
8.5/10
What a powerful singer Van is. Amazing pipes!
I think this song is more relevant today than it ever has been in history
The power of music and this specific version. It is it's own version the horns, and the drums have a pregnant pause that just takes it to a higher level. I love seeing Levon and Danko with Van The Man 🙏💃
Hello Lisa
How are you doing today?
@@Thompson010Smith Doing my best... How are you..? 🫠
I'm good thanks for asking
Where are you texting from if I may ask?@@lisadavie5282
Damn.... This is a great version, van makes this something quite special!!! Watched and listened to this loads.
Wherever Van performs, he always steals the show!!!!
Van Morrison makes a great version of this classic and the two Guitars solo's make this live version of Comfortably Numb one of the greatest!
I seldom leave comments, but how could anyone dislike this version. It's beautiful, ethereal.
Bots downvote this. No human would.
I really think I enjoy this version more than the original & that’s a tall task my friend ✌️
Van The Man elevates this song to its highest level…ever.
@@patricksnavely5850 Something seriously wrong with you if this version makes you cringe, you are most definitely in the minority!!
What a truly incredible performance. Van's version of the vocals are how I always sing it. Perfection.
