Even if the fans are aware of it, it can still be a fun story to follow if the characters react appropriately and the creators don't try to seem smart with it.
@@aubarlowe Exactly, and I think it being predictable actually strengthened it a bit, like you know it's going to happen but you don't know how exactly, which adds a bit of tension rather than it coming out of nowhere with no tension at all.
If nothing else, Candy Cadet telling you the story of the monster in the basement is basically just the game saying "Alright, fine, you figured it out. There."
cassie pretty much uas the abilities of a normal kid while gregory uses the power of timetravel, unnatural speed, night vision, telekinesis, teleportation, unnatural ability to scale walls, ability to walk through walls, and editing the fabric or reality
And the fact Gregory's biggest opponent is a temporally-glitched version of Monty that's basically immune to most of his powers makes all the more sense.
To be fair to “Black Rabbit”, Golden Freddy’s original name FNAF1 was “Yellow Bear” in the files so this is actually pretty standard for the franchise.
I do love watching an hour of Spiff not realizing touching Pegtrap starts a death timer that instantly kills you if you don't take off the mask and instead calling it a "bug".
I think it's pretty obvious that Gregory and Vanessa are working together. Since the Princess Quest ending is almost for sure the canon one, that would mean that scene where Gregory and Vanessa leave together actually happens. This would explain why the elevator to Burntrap still works despite Freddy saying it was a one-way trip. It's also how Gregory has access to the building schematics, since Vanessa was head of security. I bet that's also why there's static when gregory says "Just follow (static) instructions." He was probably saying "her" instructions, but it was made into static to not give away that it wasn't Freddy.
i agree! my only thing is that freddy is now missing a head.. which makes me think that the "good" ending where gregory took freddy's head and ran w it is canon? there's always a plothole agg
Why are the pizzaplex and animatronics destroyed in the same way they were in the afton ending. The pizzaplex is completely fine in the princess quest ending
@@drcool14 I understand that, it is a really different feel compared to their portrayals in security breach. Moon gave me heavy Gollum vibes, just like Spiff said.
Like I know the whole roxy thing is haha funny but at the same time I legit liked the whole 'shutting down roxy' scene. It's far from the most emotional thing in even a FNAF game, but it's solidly done I think. I really like how, with the way Roxy talks, she sounds like what you'd actually expect from what she is, an animatronic meant to entertain kids. And the fact that she actually lets go and apologizes when she realizes Cassie isn't Gregory is kinda neat. She's just (understandably) pissed at Gregory, not really interested in going after anyone else.
In my opinion the Roxie scene is _right_ in between "oh this very sweet" and "this is too cheesy I can't take it seriously". I sort of roll my eyes because it's laying on the emotions VERY thick out of nowhere, but I also think for what they wanted to pull off, they did it pretty well. I do like Roxie a little bit more now.
That scene was so sad. I love how it says so much with little dialogue. The phrase "I'm sure your friends will show up this time" alone feels like a punch in the gut. It's great!
it is genuinely _brilliant_ dialogue writing it works so well because the characters arent talking to us; there's no "as you know;" we can't hear the author making an effort to bring us into the fold. each word a character says is meant for the other character only -- the two of them already know what they've experienced together, even if Cassie didn't know how much Roxy would care -- and each character only says exactly as much as the other needs to hear. that _we_ get what _we_ need to understand it is just great skill on the part of the writers
It gives off the info that Roxy cared enough to remember those details and you can tell she was a big part of that day for Cassie. There’s quite the implication for their interaction that day that didn’t need to be spelled out massively
@@The_Christian_Kirboyeah them being tampered is a given I'm suggesting that even before they were corrupted is that these animatronics were designed to have an active personality and characteristics traits other than being told on a bio sheet They're basically MegaMan X a robot who is able to think and feel like a human, heck even the design concept/aspects are pretty similar
The way they are manipulated by GT is based on their personalities. Like Roxy for example who starts self-loathing and extremely obsessive. Trying to prove herself a little too much.
When you really think about it, Gregory was very down to kill robots to get mildly convenient upgrades Kid coulda got a better flashlight through the most plentiful robot in the game XD
In 1:06:58 , you can clearly see Cassie’s shadow on the door is only her arms since that’s the only part of her model that’s loaded normally. You’d expect a cutscene to have her whole body but I guess the devs forgot
ok but this is the first streamer I've watched that has played so much security breach he can start guessing what each section of the ruins used to be, and where he's going next, and what areas surround him, and not only that but he's actually right almost all the time lol. And also is celebrating how the game became actually functional lol
Sad that Ruin ends so abruptly, and is so scripted that there aren't any real threats. However. Steel Wool has shown that they can deliver on atmosphere, touching story moments, and give us decently scary sections with an interesting new antagonist. The lack of any Blob is still disappointing as well. Good start I guess.
I actually prefer the linear scriptedness of this to the open world. However it was incredibly disappointing that this answered absolutely nothing and only gave us more questions.
Also this DLC actually looks good! SB always looks like a creation engine cell without a global light put down, everything's constantly uniformly lit, whole thing feals unfinished. This one has MUCH more details in the enviroment, there are proper dark spots, lights for the most part illuminate properly and (almost) all props get proper lighting data instead of the og SB way of being much lighter than the surroundings. Incredible what the same studio can acomplish if they actually have proper management
One thing that's interesting about the mask in the game, is it makes me think of something kinda strange: Is that how Vanny got around so much? It's possible that she used that same mask to get around without you ever knowing she was nearby until the game lets you see her there, or at least close to you
1:21:18 By and large this game is pretty tame (since, y'know, it's for kids) but I love the unsettling reveal of Prototype Freddy. The way he slowly stands up and reveals not only his missing head, but the compartment that was previously your safe space is now a gaping maw leading to a death trap (which is realistically what that compartment would have always been).
I love it soo much cuz I was genuinely not expecting his head to be gone until he fully turned around and revealed it. I was IMMEDIATELY hit with not only shock but also “THATS A SICK DESIGN!!!!!” favorite part just because the design was awesome and the reveal was so well done. I also like how while getting up his legs don’t move in a human way, but I only noticed on the second watch
I'm genuinely really impressed with how well Ruin turned out, especially compared to SB. It's not perfect, but it really seems like some real passion went into it, and that goes a long way.
Eh, I think there was TONS of passion put into SB aswell, it was just not finished. If they would have kept the original plot and game style (Gregory has to finish as many tasks as possible until 6 am, the missions aren't tied to a specific time, and Vanny always knows where Gregory is and pathfinds to him anywhere, no elevators, a bigger focus on the vanny/vanessa story) it would have been amazing. But people quickly figured out the story so SWS and Scott panicked and rewrote almost the entire plot late in the development. So basically two stories and two different game mechanics were mixed and not properly finished or tested. Ruin is a perfect example of how perfect and polished SB could have been.
For my top three people I couldn’t wait for playthroughs of Ruin, MatPat, Markiplier, and Spiff, glad Spiff was the first one I got to see experience it fully.
I am 100% sure of two things 1) the canon ending of sb is the princess quest 2) the elevator is also the canon ending, and in the interlocutor was gregory talking at first until the "static" sound play right before "its not your fault" then was the mimic
Also that I think Princess Quest is canon because it feels implied that after Security Breach, Gregory and Vanessa went back to the Pizza Plex to build MXES hence there being stuff like lights and wires underground in spots that no human had access too (like the tunnel behind the Freddy Head). Gregory and Vanessa put them there while trying to get down to the Mimic without trapping themselves in the Burner room. Also the reason the elevator to go down still works is because Vanessa repaired it. Mimic got Gregory's voice probably from his FazWatch which was likely in his backpack that got left behind
its so funny watching different ppl play this, cuz matpats looking for all the tiny details, spiff is looking for speedrun skips, and marks looking for a good time lol❤
if anyone's wondering, the MXER you find at the end of the game is what's controlling the entity(pegtrap). It was made to stop the mimic from being released. You undoing all the security nodes stopped it from working, so in the end when pegtrap's coming out of the MXES, it was pulled back in because MXES was shut down. Also I have a theory that the security mask, and the maskbot were setup by mimic in someway, either by vanny or someone else. And that when HELPI has yellow eyes that mimic's influence telling you how to progress. Would also somewhat explain why you can use the mask at the end, cuz you're close to mimic... I guess? Idk. I have no fucking clue how the mask lets you do all the teleportation though Edit: considering the glitchiness of these objects when you're not wearing the mask, maybe they're somehow made by illusion discs? And hide these entrances? Perhaps another tactic by the MXES to stop people from getting closer to the mimic?
Okay I didn’t consider this at all but I love that the entire time Pegtrap is actually a good guy calling the animatronics to you because you’re a “threat” trying to release the mimic. Animatronics/non-human characters being on the side of good is what made me interested in FNAF in the beginning so it’s really cool to see again
@samboi123 To be fair, I'm pretty sure the only games aren't out to get you specifically is 1 and 2. They think you're William. 3 is, well, William, 4 is either actual nightmares or illusion-disc things meant to torment the player, SL is Baby using you for her own gain and Ennard trying to escape, Pizza Sim all the animatronics have a vendetta against you (Maybe except lefty but idk), and SB they're being hacked to hunt you.
@@rokkraljkolesa9317 idk man. Maybe it's hidden with illusion discs or something, then for gameplay reasons you fall through that area. I think we'll only know if they ever explain it in tales from the pizzaplex, or maybe the next game
The difference between Cassie and Gregory is that Gregory is a God can scale invisible walls with only his mind, and Cassie is just a normal child Edit: MOM GET THE CAMERA 📸
I like that Ruin is easier. To me a horror game shouldn’t really have to be hard, as having to redo a section over and over can replace fear with irritation. Keeping it easy means you’re more likely to do things on the first try, keeping each scare fresh for longer. A perfect working example of that is Subnautica, and it definitely helps prove that it works.
The difference between Subnautica and Ruin is that Subnautica actually has tension, despite still being easy. So it's fun to go into the water, because you're always worried about what could show up. Plus the gameplay loop feels rewarding, getting better materials and upgrading your base. In Ruin, I'm fine with the puzzles being easy, but with basically no tension, it doesn't really succeed at being a horror game. If the AI were more aggressive, it'd be a lot more tense.
You can do hard and scary. Part of what makes a horror game scary is its difficulty. The fear factor will diminish over time unless there's tension. Silent Hill and Resident Evil (1-4, 7) are two fairly decent examples of difficult though frightening games. It's a hard balance but a doable one.
True, Security Breach fell really hard because it was so repetitive and frustrating, and when the scares happened they were good. But eventually the scare factor disappeared after a while. like what happened to mark when he played the game
I was always jokingly skeptical about Gregory actually being at the pizzaplex but watching Dawko's playthrough, I knew for a fact it wasn't him when Cassie says she should get help or call the cops. When "Gregory" says 'There's no time', it was the exact same voiceline from SB at the beginning when he gets hurt and Freddy takes him to the med station. Just a fun little thing I noticed. Sadge Spigg was kinda talking over it during his playthrough
I figure because it’s extremely obvious, but then I guess that means nobody’s talking about it cuz some of us think it was so obvious it’s not worth mentioning, while others didn’t notice it and therefore won’t say it.
Yeah. I like to think he's trying to save Cassie, cus by that point I'm sure everybody playing already knows it's the mimic, so there's really no reason for him to be there besides specifically to try and warn Cassie. I think that's really sweet and I love him for that
If steel wool has to make the game a cakewalk to not make it a buggy mess, ill take it bc man I love the story. Even though I don't know who mimic is, I feel like it just feels better and doesn't have much out of nowhere bs.
I loved watching this live, and also how completely predictable zoom going poorly was once I saw people posting pictures. My literal first thought when I saw that was "how long will it take for them to start posting porn?" and evidently the answer is pretty quickly.
@@gemstone4264 Yeah, It was kinda surprising spiff saw them posting images (before they started posting porn) and didn't immediately try and stop that and even left it up on screen. Was really funny watching all of that play out live.
I do think that the atmosphere of Ruin is an improvement compared to the original Security Breach, but I just didn't find doing the same like 4 puzzles for the entirety of the game that interesting. It also just doesn't really seem that interesting to me for replaying compared to the other FNaF titles.

1:25:02 That little head tilt and the happy eyes is 'nuff to make a grown man cry. This whole scene with Roxy is the only time FNAF has made me feel sad. Throughout the entirety of Security Breach we come to feel only a positive emotional attachment towards G.Freddy, while feeling nothing but frustration with the other Glamrocks because of how much of an annoying obstacle they are which is made even worse by the game's jank. But I feel like the few scenes we have with Roxanne (Her grabbing Cassie but letting her go, her remembering Cassie, and then her sacrificing herself to save Cassie at the end) reminds us that these animatronics are not evil by nature. These are not animatronics possessed by vengeful spirits or anything. They were built to be friendly and kind towards children and to provide entertainment and joy. With Roxanne we see that due to what I assume is having her programming originally messed with during base Security Breach, she still has it out for Gregory, especially because he took her eyes. But when she grips onto Cassie and she screams for her to let go, Roxanne recoils back and apologizes not just because Cassie isn't Gregory, but because deep down she's still Roxanne Wolf, not "That fucking bitch Roxy is in my way again", but the egotistical yet still compassionate tomboy Glamrock that many kids love and adore. I really feel like if Ruin wasn't so short, there could have been potential for Roxanne to eventually come around and be a guardian to Cassie after a couple of encounters. Not to the extent of the almost "Father & Son" dynamic that we had between Gregory and G.Freddy, but more of a sister relationship. After all one of the best things about base SB was how the game perfectly handled making the player develop an emotional connection with G.Freddy (Outside of.. when the AI jank kicks in.) I've already watched a lot of people go through Ruin and the majority feel upset over the scene with Roxy under the forklift and I've only seen two who didn't really give a shit. I really honestly believe having Roxy be the new G.Freddy in this situation could have worked wonderfully as not only would it let us learn more about Roxy, but allow the emotional weight of Roxy's character "redeeming" herself sink in.

algorithm gods bless this absolute mad lad for the crimes his zoom call committed, he deserves some karmic justice after their bullshit this was such a fun stream though, it was my first time catching a fnaf stream of yours and I had a blast!!!
One thing I like about this game is how the animatronics react to Gregory. Like when Roxy shows up for the first time she gets distracted when she hears Gregory’s voice. You would be rightfully angry if someone drive a go cart into your skull and stole your eyes
"Thanks for being willing to save me, Cassie... But you did just release a psychopathic 7 foot tall murderous robot upon the populous, sooo we kinda need a distraction until we can get the security back up to stop the Mimic. You know what they say! The needs of the many are more important than the needs of the few! "
Honestly, Ruin is definitely more stable than security breach, but even with the "canon" ending it still feels like the stpry is lacking crucial elements, like the moment where you find "freddy" just seems odd since he is missing his head just like another ending where he was destroyed with his head removed
Also I'm pretty sure the "friend" that knows his way around the pizzaplex and was the one who was mentioned when Gregory said: "WE can't have you following US" is obviously freddy, on top of the prototype being on Freddy's foot. I wonder though where the hell a giant robot bear and orphaned child are hiding though

cassie pretty much uas the abilities of a normal kid while gregory uses the power of timetravel, unnatural speed, night vision, telekinesis, teleportation, unnatural ability to scale walls, ability to walk through walls, and editing the fabric or reality
So basically Gregory is an omnipotent god stuck in the body of a 10 year old
there's actually a theory where Gregory is an animatronic himself lol.
He also uses performance enhancing drugs.
And the fact Gregory's biggest opponent is a temporally-glitched version of Monty that's basically immune to most of his powers makes all the more sense.

But then again, the freddy in ruin is a prototype, unlike the one in the base game
@@crm7n That's exactly what Gregory does in the Princess Quest ending so there isn't a plot hole. That's the only 3 star ending as well.

It's great!
Roxy's connection got terminated
it is genuinely _brilliant_ dialogue writing
it works so well because the characters arent talking to us; there's no "as you know;" we can't hear the author making an effort to bring us into the fold. each word a character says is meant for the other character only -- the two of them already know what they've experienced together, even if Cassie didn't know how much Roxy would care -- and each character only says exactly as much as the other needs to hear. that _we_ get what _we_ need to understand it is just great skill on the part of the writers
It gives off the info that Roxy cared enough to remember those details and you can tell she was a big part of that day for Cassie. There’s quite the implication for their interaction that day that didn’t need to be spelled out massively
Roxy's behavior in this DLC just makes me think that the animatronics in security breach have a personality chips and are not being possessed by kids
Yes!!! Seeing how Roxy and the others must've been with kids normally was so adorable🥹
They were never said or speculated to be possessed by kids. We knew it was Glitchtrap messing them up from the beginning.
@@The_Christian_Kirboyeah them being tampered is a given I'm suggesting that even before they were corrupted is that these animatronics were designed to have an active personality and characteristics traits other than being told on a bio sheet

Sad that Ruin ends so abruptly, and is so scripted that there aren't any real threats.

One thing that's interesting about the mask in the game, is it makes me think of something kinda strange: Is that how Vanny got around so much? It's possible that she used that same mask to get around without you ever knowing she was nearby until the game lets you see her there, or at least close to you
That… honestly makes a lot of sense when you think of it that way.

It’s cuz Mat broke the game and Mark is going slow (compared to spiff)
Same
I am 100% sure of two things
1) the canon ending of sb is the princess quest
2) the elevator is also the canon ending, and in the interlocutor was gregory talking at first until the "static" sound play right before "its not your fault" then was the mimic
I guess? Idk.
I have no fucking clue how the mask lets you do all the teleportation though
Edit: considering the glitchiness of these objects when you're not wearing the mask, maybe they're somehow made by illusion discs? And hide these entrances? Perhaps another tactic by the MXES to stop people from getting closer to the mimic?
Okay I didn’t consider this at all but I love that the entire time Pegtrap is actually a good guy calling the animatronics to you because you’re a “threat” trying to release the mimic. Animatronics/non-human characters being on the side of good is what made me interested in FNAF in the beginning so it’s really cool to see again
@samboi123 To be fair, I'm pretty sure the only games aren't out to get you specifically is 1 and 2. They think you're William. 3 is, well, William, 4 is either actual nightmares or illusion-disc things meant to torment the player, SL is Baby using you for her own gain and Ennard trying to escape, Pizza Sim all the animatronics have a vendetta against you (Maybe except lefty but idk), and SB they're being hacked to hunt you.
ok but how does that one platform that appears in AR mode not exist outside AR mode

@@Darkify0 Even better, a robot with a brain.
I don’t like that there’s no tension, at least for me. I get that different people’s mileage will vary though
Yeah but in this game there is literally no threats at any point.
I absolutely LOVE how no one is talking about the fact that Candy Cadet's story foreshadowed the ending.
I think that's really sweet and I love him for that
"Im going to have a normal run"

I love how spiff started a zoom call as a joke and ended because of porn
If steel wool has to make the game a cakewalk to not make it a buggy mess, ill take it bc man I love the story. Even though I don't know who mimic is, I feel like it just feels better and doesn't have much out of nowhere bs.
Apparently the mimic is from the tales from the pizzaplex books. I can’t tell you much more cuz idk too much about those books.
pegtrap’s form of cyber bullying is doxing your current location to the local animatronics
I loved watching this live, and also how completely predictable zoom going poorly was once I saw people posting pictures. My literal first thought when I saw that was "how long will it take for them to start posting porn?" and evidently the answer is pretty quickly.

That little head tilt and the happy eyes is 'nuff to make a grown man cry.
After all one of the best things about base SB was how the game perfectly handled making the player develop an emotional connection with G.Freddy (Outside of.. when the AI jank kicks in.)
I've already watched a lot of people go through Ruin and the majority feel upset over the scene with Roxy under the forklift and I've only seen two who didn't really give a shit. I really honestly believe having Roxy be the new G.Freddy in this situation could have worked wonderfully as not only would it let us learn more about Roxy, but allow the emotional weight of Roxy's character "redeeming" herself sink in.

I've watched this whole on stream live, but I'm still going to watch this video because Spigg makes very fucking good content
Thank you spiff for giving me this video before I go to bed
