She’s so gorgeous like she’s from the Mediterranean! I love her ability to walk classily but have fun with it. It’s her modeling both in the 80s/90s that gives her walk so much charisma. I’ve been dying to see this one, thanks RC ❤️
I always remember her and Veronica Webb hanging out! Marpessa is from Europe and not the United States like Veronica Webb ( under contract with Revlon years ago)!
Marpessa was a singular phenomenon. No runway was complete without her. Really! Only a few serious masters of the craft were used for RTW and the haute couture. Marpessa was at the top of both. Not to mention print campaigns. She could “bend it” in every direction! A skill, sadly, only a true dozen or so models, at the time, were adept at pulling off. Especially at moments that called for it. Marpessa never wasted the opportunity to…strike. If everything fell into place perfectly, and it did, several times, the experienced viewer would know it was coming: The designer? Check! The music? Check! The vibe? Check! The outfit? Double check! She didn’t just slay! Girl filleted! Served it piping!
Marpessa was and still is, the reigning Catwalk Contessa👸 hands down! She has the Fashion awards🥇🥇 to prove it! No Catwalk Runway Model before or since has ever quite had her style, grace and rhythm to match her. Young upcoming Models, I'm quite sure are inspired by her still to this day! She's a true Visual Artist🎨💏 She practically floats and prances down that Runway, like a grooving Balarina!💃🎶🎻When she walked down that Catwalk, Marpessa owned it. She light up the Runway!⚡ Marpessa was poetry in Motion!💃🌹You go girl!👍💃🎶🌹
I believe she retired at the right time. She was definitely one of the biggest show girls of all time but she was never a successful cover girl or did a lot of editorial work. When grunge or heroine chic came to the scene it was obvious she could no longer work in the business. Don’t forget that she had a truly long career. She had been constantly working since the mid 80’s. In 1993 she was almost 30 and she definitely didn’t have the right look or age for that new era of fashion.
Marpessa Hennick is a fashion model who modeled with some of the greats of her time: Dalma Callado, Anna Bayle, Iman Abdul-Majid, Ines De Lafresange, etc, and her walk was all attitude, and "look at me, I guess you wish you would, if you could afford it" remember it was the 80's, and being over the top was the norm.
I look forward to updates on your channel. Much thanks for the track ID too! Often times, the music is so great and I don't know where to find it. Your editing skills are also "en pointe". Keep doing what you're doing. There's certainly an audience for what you love to do!!
Ooh Wow!🎇💃🎶🎉 Whew!😅 Marpessa put the Roll in Rock&Roll🤸 Jack!💃When she does those spins and poses she's like a Gangsta😎 Ballerina💃(GB) 😂! Marpessa and Veronica Webb: Marpessa Hennink and Veronica Webb They were best friends ( this was well known among all the top models). People thought Veronica Webb and Cindy Crawford were the best of friends! They were not but both had multimillion dollar Revlon Contracts! The two top American Models were forced to become close due to their Revlon obligations!
I am very interested in why this gifted model quit the business. I had seen her in compilation videos for designers and models etc, and in comments I inquired about “who was this girl?”. I ended up finding out on my own and looked for more info. In one short clip, she’s at an event some years after modeling. Asked what she was doing , she replied that she would NEVER get back into anything that had to do with the fashion industry. She’s such a natural “ walker” and great in photos. I wonder why she was not as “ big” as some other models. And what happened to make her disappear from the industry? Anyone else know more about her? Please let me know where I can find out more details than I know. Thank you.
Hey. I heard her in an interview talking about loosing interest as the fashion scene nose dived into the grunge look of the early to mid nineties. She mentioned how she loved the classy looks and the designer shows she lived through and decided to leave in class. She really was my favorite sharp as a tak, cool as a cat, moves heavy as a freight train.
@@swordsinging1709 Ooh! See if you can cut n paste the interview you replied about. I love the picture of her accompanying the reply!! She’s “ reminiscent “ of Mariissa Berenson from back in the day. Thanks for the reply !

@Aicha We loved Shana, she was really gorgeous but actually she did very few shows. Just a a couple, not more than that. If you think about it, she was just a shooting star. She worked only for a couple of years in the early 90s, doing mostly campaigns and beautiful editorials for Italian Vogue.
She practically danced down the catwalk making the music you choose to accompany this was beyond inspiring ' it was joyus and magical
She has such an alluring yet very sophisticated look.
I love her energy
perfection. she should be a lot more well known than she is🌟
She was Model of the Year1987.
She is a legend and iconic.
She is the European model, that hung with Veronica Webb!
One of the many fab Dutch models!

Maybe the late Katoucha Niane next? Marpessa posted a photo for her birthday ❤️
@@whitneyanderson1648 yes! Katoucha was so beautiful and has a inspirational backstory I hope her biography will eventually be translated into English

Runway royalty from the netherlands, serving fun in fashion❤️

She’s probably the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen, imo.
She had a fresh, fun hiphoppy walk during that time having always partnered with Veronica Webb in the runway.
I remembered Karl Lagerfeld once had said that she got the smallest waist among all the models at that time.
She only retired in 1993 because she hated grunge fashion, but she could’ve kept going if she wanted to

exceptional movement and attitude, also a wonderful dancer, which you see in her walk

Is she mixed? Asking because Dutch model Yasmin Wijnaldum looks a lot like her
Apparently she was born in Amsterdam, Netherlands to a Dutch mother and a Dutch / Surinamese father of African ancestry.
She is most definitely mixed.has that exotic look about
