If you ever have to drive from SF to LA, do yourself a favour and take the highway 1 at least one time in your life. Although the drive is about 10-11 hours long, it's worth it.

I absolutely agree that the PCH is the most beautiful thing on Earth. However, I would advise to take the road from Santa Barbara to San Francisco because it gets more and more exciting with every small town and the coast is getting more and more gorgeous on the way to the North. If you go down from San Fran then nothing would look more exciting after seeing the Big Sur.. Ahhh love this place!

Additionally it is San Francisco.. not San Fran. disrespectful.

  • @mhport3r
    @mhport3r 3 роки тому

Great video. But...a couple of corrections.
While it is commonly called the PCH that only exists from Ventura County and south.
The San Andreas fault is nowhere near Carmel, you have to go inland about 100 miles.
As others have mentioned the s in Luis is not silent.
The scenes part of 1 is north from San Luis Obispo, it does overlap US 101 for a while but is separate from Pismo Beach south to near Santa Barbara on the way to LA.
1 north of the Golden Gate Bridge is also a great road but just like the southern portion is not fast.
Cal. 1 and US 101 join in Northern California and mostly hug the coast. 1 of course ends at the Oregon border but 101 continues all the way to Olympia, Washington and is just as spectacular.
If you are in a hurry to drive between Seattle and LA or San Diego take Interstate 5 but be prepared to be mind numbingly bored for most of the southern half of that road.

Drove the 1 from Pismo to monteray last night and I tell you it was eerrie ! No other cars on the road ,no cell phone service, narrow and wyndy roads , no radio and once you pass San simion there is no alternate route ! Definitely an experience at night didn't even realize I passed up such beautiful spots as to it was so dark I couldn't see 15' ahead of me ! If your gonna drive this make sure its in the day lol 😂

been there twice and can't wait to go again... Carmel has to be one of my favourite places on earth! One place you can stop between Big Sur and Hearst Castle is Ragged Point Inn and Resort. You can get gas and supplies there and have a gourmet lunch on an outdoor patio! Hearst Castle is a must see! Morro Rock is a highlight as is Pismo Beach! As you say there is so much more that you guys could have mentioned but people need to make the drive and discover it for themselves! nice vid!

Did the trip about 35 years ago and the Big Sur State Beach was nudist. We also went inland around Napa Valley where they had a restaurant famous for the super big portions of steak....forgot the name. The best part is the first few hours going south from SF. Going north from Santa Barbara the first 8 hours are beautiful but redundant. This video had perfect excerpts.

Been to California so many times. This area I've always wanted to visit. But , money always runs out and have to get back to the east coast. It's ugly here on the east coast.
For no wonder it's so dreadfully expensive in this area, for why would any body In their right mind ever want to live anywhere else but here on the west coast. Truly since I was a young lad, I always tried to be a surfer, and this coastline is absolutely breath taking and " there's always a feeling that I get , when I look to the west ' , for the Piper is alwaus leading me there." Oh o whoa , the Piper is always leading me there. Look at how beautiful , magnificent and wonderous this place is. Definitely heaven on this Earth . Now, I'm old and money is little to nill, I will never be able to get back to any of this west coast to even dream in reality of getting there. I'm sad for just to admit that to myself is very sad.

+M-K-L - * I would allow half the summer. Take the mileage and divide into sections of 300 miles. Realize that on an open road most trips are based on 600 miles a day. Here you have a coastline and a need for your tourist stops. (6 weeks)

To whom ever decides to drive down California, and you see the 5 as an option, i kid you not, just because it's shorter, doesn't mean it'll feel shorter, it's boring as sin and nothing to see, PCH will feel so much faster and it's so much prettier

lol warrior wow I can’t believe it’s been a year already. First of all...with re-routes, and stops to stretch and grab food, it took me like 12 hours. I also like to pull over and take pics tho and stop at little road side stands so keep that in mind. I did opt for the PCH and let me tell you something. Once that highway opened up to the pacific I actually kid you not lost my breath. It was an unbelievably magnificent view, and one I think about all the time. It was a truly cathartic drive and I’ll never forget it.
