i get these things are easy for you, but can u elaborate more on these videos. sometimes you just go off and complete the whole equation only explaining apart of it.
Apologies. I made this video for my Advanced Algebra 2 class where certain things are sort of expected to know. I'm really surprised this video has so many views! I was making it within the context of my classroom, not so much the general public. I may re-do this video this year and offer more in-depth explanations. (I was also going in blind -- I hadn't practiced any of the problems beforehand).
I was so worried for my first TSI test. I thought that I was going to completely bomb it. I failed but was only 12 points away from being good. It’s sm easier than you think I promise. Now that Ik the questions and things being asked I have a lot of confidence that I’ll do better. Once you know what to expect it’s really easy.
the way you explain the process is so incredibly helpful, im taking my tsi tomorow and i failed the practice test but thanks to you im confident i'll pass the math portion🥺
Ive always been bad at math minus my 6th grade year (teacher was amazing so i excelled and even got placed in pre algebra the next year) - since that, ive struggled to make sense of math (confused on when to apply proportions or algebraic equations etc to a problem). Ive been out of school for 5 years now and im deciding to go back. And oh man.. is my math memory depleted. Seeing you answer question #3 was insanely easy to grasp. The moment my mind reads “three more than twice the number” its like my mind stagnates in confusion on what to do to solve it. I’ve no issue with the ELA portion (ive always excelled at it), but i just know i wont do very well for the math.
this was great thanks Mr. Spake the probability one is also Trickey for me but all the questions you did amazing gret job and thanks for this video i think i am more confident in passing my test .
I don’t understand question 16. How did you decide that you needed to do 1-(5/18) I understood up until we got 5/18 but then suddenly you subtracted 5/18 from 1 and how is that equal to 13/18 ? Where did the 1 come from?
I hope this makes sense, but basically the 1 is meant to be all the coin combination possibilities combined. so 2 dimes, 2 quarters, and 1 dime and 1 quarter = 1.
Exactly, so since all the possibilities amount to 18/18 altogether, or 1, you subtract the possibility of picking up 2 dimes in a row, which gives you the equation “(18/18) - (5/18)” or “1-(5/18)”, the difference is 13/18, so 13/18 is the probability that you do pick up at least 35¢.
There's a third way to solve 12. You could have subbed in a value for x. (Let's say 2), and if you work the problem out you get -36, then you could sub in 2 for all the choices and see which one does not equal -36.
I find it almost funny when high school Calc 1 is harder than a TSI math questions. I was expecting much harder questions than this. That said I'm ready for this Test Monday. 😊
I can help you with that, the reasoning is that you need to get rid of the 1/2. You multiply by 2 on both sides to get it which will leave you 1, then you are left with 1(x)(x+1). As you should know the 1 doesn’t change anything.
Okay let’s make it easy, what you can do is just plug in numbers in the options instead of writing x and try to get 21(since 21 is area), I mean it’s easier way to do that this.
Question 8 you said u multiplied by -2 so 4s would cancel lol , but I still don’t understand why you chose -2 before you explained you doubling 8 and 75 to get 16 and 1.50 to 17.50
He wanted to eliminate another Soda values at the bottom line. They can be eliminated so another value (Slices) will be alone to get numeric value with extract function@@alfredobriseno6428
Any advice on this I have to take it again next weekend. I can not register for any more classes until I pass the tsi. I am 6 classes from graduating but these classes are all locked behind this placement exam. Are the questions similar to the study guide.
I wasn't looking at the answer choices. When you make that number line, you just have to test some number in between those points. It is usually easiest to substitute one more/less than the point if you're doing it by hand. The math will probably be easier to evaluate if I chose 3 versus if I chose any number greater than 2.
Of course! But the TSI does not give you a calculator for every problem. So I was demonstrating some mental math reasoning that might be useful when taking the test.
I would say this is a good start to prepping for the TSI, and if you feel confident about 70-80% of these questions then it would be worth taking the exam to see how you do. You want to score a 950 to pass. When you complete the TSI you should receive an email with information on your strengths and weaknesses according to the 4 domains (discussed at beginning of video). So if you fail, using this info would help you focus on what you need to improve the next time you take the exam.
There's a lot you don't even explain and that is honestly very frustrating. Some questions, you explain how to do in full while others, you barely explain it at all. Once again, very frustrating!

For 18, why did you multiple by 2 ? I’ve watched it 5 times 😭 I still don’t understand where u got the two from

how would you do that?
Where did you get the 400?

for the 2nd question i did 400 x 1/5 and got 80 and added that with thursday's total and got 480 does that still work?

@@miacuellar2616 Lmao really? I suck at math tho but thanks and you’re welcome (I am struggling to pass this damn test tho I got a 934 I need a 950
Yes, that is essentially the same process. When I multiply by 6/5, you are keeping the 400 (5/5, or a whole) and adding 80 (1/5) to get 480 (6/5).
thanks mr spake
