Kind of reminds me of GalCiv and Endless Space a bit. I also like how the icon for the perk that gave the free survey ship looked like something from Star Trek.
I really like space 4x games, but I always found that, for me personally, it was kinda weird that you ONLY owned systems with colonies, and you HAD to colonize a planet to own a system. That’s a reason I like Stellaris a lot, that it doesn’t matter what’s in the system, you can just build a space base and boom, you own it. That and the empire creator is SO FUN TO PLAY WITH.
This was a really really nice surprise release. Never heard of it before (you kinda auto-tune out most of these, as they end up being garbage). It gives me a huge MOO feeling, but also that other game, what was it called, Armada 2192 whatever? That was also a nice game, albeit a bit on the simpler side. Gorgeous map visuals. Having played this last night, just from the ingame text alone, you can really feel the soul of the developers, and how they are genuinely well versed in astronomy and technology. Nice to see otherwise rare stuff like Boson stars and such in a game, and wormholes that appear and disappear randomly really spice up the space geometry. All in all i'm actually really pleasantly surprised by this game. It just needs some ambient "galaxy life" buzzing around, even if only as visual elements. Like some small freighter sprites moving between your star systems, or between asteroid belts and the planet they deliver to, and would be nice to see sprites of your ships in the solar system view, not just a UI button. Though i gotta say, its difficult watching this, because you feel stressed out, as if you're rushing to finish it by a timetable or something. Kinda doesnt let me feel chilled and relaxed when watching xD
its really a Mix of Ascendancy / Imperium Galactica / MoO And thats good it seems ! i mean the hud.. the Triangle with the Productions... im gonna buy it i guess
Well, its been a fun run with you Nookster. But if you dont build a holodeck and go on a wacky adventure with Warf in a cowboy hat in the next few episodes, I will have to find a new favorite UA-camr... And I got stuff to do.
Nice that it has planets you can develop too. But I so hate these games where you can build only a few building on a planet. That is SO UNREALISTIC. I would rather have 3 different things you can do, without the building representing it. Like instead a mine, have mining. Instead farm, have food production. Much more immersive.
Distant Worlds really made it so I can't enjoy other 4x so much anymore. It's so good. As far as turn based games go this one looks fine, will def take a gander at the game.
Distant Worlds was the first - and only - 4X space game that I really loved, except for the original Master of Orion. I'm not sure why, although I love terraforming (MOO did that _so_ well), I love research, I love exploration, and I love building my economy, while I'm not particularly interested in war games. Yeah, danger is necessary, but that's not my primary interest. (I was fine fighting pirates in Distant Worlds. That was the kind of danger I want.) I'm not sure about this one, not yet. Actually, I wish someone would take Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead as a model for a 4X space game. Yeah, don't ask me how that would work. But I keep playing Cataclysm _long_ after I get tired of most games. There's just so much to it.
I know, Distant Worlds is a gem. If only the UI (and graphics engine) was coded in something more fluid and smooth... Alas, this is a nice game, for when you want something simpler and a bit more in the days-of-gameplay rythm. I cant play Distant Worlds without going largest mapsize and month long games xD
@@Baleur These things are why I'm letting my hype rise (though in moderation) for DW2. I pray to the god of code it be made scalable for multi core processors. I don't really care about the graphics so much, just wish the interface scales. Playing DW on 4k is NOT for the weak of sight.
@@BrecMadak DW is real time, you can automate your empire completely or do everything manually (choose your own micromanagement level, essentially), dozens of different resources to manufacture the various parts that go into your ship. There's a civilian economy that you can actually observe. Like private mining ships getting gathering resources and trading, and you see them on the map. DW is a massive game. It's really famtastic (for me at least), and nothing out there compares to it favorably. Stellaris has a better diplomatic system for example, and graphics. However it's not insanely in depth either as Aurora 4X. It's JUST right, for me. It just needs to be made so it can do multicore and scale well on the early game, and have UI scaling.
Tell me why i should buy this game instead of just playing Stellaris. What does it have that it doesn't? I am honestly genuinely asking what does this game do that Stellaris doesn't do better?
I really wish 4x developers would get over their obsession with master of orion 2 and start innovating, moo2 was great when it came out but considering what computers are capable of today it is extremely outdated, pls do something next gen.
After having played a certain epic beast of space conquest game, I find all MoO2ish games including the original kinda boring. Aside from actual space battles maybe Master of Orion 2 has finally found its master in the still growing Stellaris.
Combat was great, thanks for showing it.
The best successor to Master of Orion hell yeahh !!!

it's interesting how many newer 4x games take notes from how endless space / legend did their UX/UI , simple, yet effective

I would like to see a followup with the next few turns. A complete walk through would be awesome.
13:30 Maybe SCP stands for "Space Culture [something with P]"?

I'm waiting fro a REACH FOR STARS remake. Loved that game with Amiga.

This looks good , much better than Wargamings version. Will have to check it out.

Can you guys not say this game is much better than DW on many levels? What are the biggest differences?

What's the last panel in the race selection, just a BTW that I'd like as a FYI.
I wish someone would start with a 3D galaxy. Then you can expand in all directions:)
Imperium Galactica 2 clone?
the menu kind of remind me of how to do apps using unity3d... ahhh those memory...
You always have so good tumbnails! or however you spell it
indeed, nails of your thumbs! English is a WEIRD language xD
Baleur yes it is indeed😂😂
Cannot for the life of me figure out how to make anything lol
You should've played the frog people!
Combat? Diplomacy?

@@Nookrium That's why I'll be back. Good answer Nook'
instead of imagining angry rabbits why don't you look for the holy grail (space version)?

Far too many of these 4X being released. Lots are not going to sell. I don't need seven 4X games!
it's more about having one you want to actually play. a lot of 4x are kind of meh, some are pretty fun while not being all that great.

Oh wow someone made masters of orion once again. 😴
novas' yumyum
played this for a while and can tell you it's a poor space x4 game, stellaris, endless space and others in the genre are much much better.
cant believe they screwd up research lol
Spore
a singleplayer game cant be the successor of MoO2

Distant Worlds Universe > Stellaris
That’s like comparing a fine wine (Distant Worlds) to a Budweiser beer
@@RasCricketSmallAxe And the reason being?
@@testales They’re both great games, I’m just talking trash 😅
Stars from 1995 is much better it at least had Multiplayer. Solo means boring and no thanks.
I disliked the game not you. But b4eacuse no combat was shown its halfway you too. or diplomacy
Ahhhhh so sad that graphics and tech tree is garbage :(((
