I have only myself to blame, as Iinstalled it!! I have installed many systems before, and never had any problems, but this foxed me because I think I was looking in the wrong place for the airlock/blockage! I am going to have a look in the header tank on monday to see if there is any sign of foreign objects etc, because that is where the gurgling occurred that cured the problem! It was very odd to see two open ended pipes that were well below the water level in the header tank, which was brim full, the pump running, and nothing coming out of the pipes! Then a huge gurgle, and water everywhere, and now its fine! I still need to get to the bottom of it! Phil
The Rapitdor is becoming a star on your channel 🙂 Great job getting the heating sorted. I am really enjoying following the work you are doing on the Holbrook drive, so many great ideas. I am looking forward to seeing how the belt guard comes together
Hi Joseph, the Rapidor is the star!! I use it several times a day, and it does sterling work! The workshop has come together so well, and everything is going like clockwork, apart from the heating, which is hopefully now sorted! Phil
That was excellent Phil. The heating system issue was a pain. Holbrook looking fantastic now. I am watching your film at about 35000 feet having just left Iceland en route to the US for a holiday. The wonders of modern technology!
With all that work I now see why the previous set-up had the motor slung below ! respect for returning her to original. Did not take long to fill your new portable bench ! but that's what free spaces are for. Could be the first CNC'd Rapidor on the tube😃 ...Del..
Hi Del, problem with the last set up was firstly that the motor, countershaft and framework was all hung on two bolts in the T slot, and this put the countershaft below the level of the cone pulley, and they had hacked a lump out of the headstock to clear the belt! That had to go, so I made a rod for my own back in a way, but I am much happier with the result! Phil
The heating problem was a pain, water is malevolent at the best of times. I do enjoy watching the Rapidor. Mine has quite a road to travel. Best wishes, Dean.
Thanks Dean, I think the heating is solved for now anyway, the next step was going to be pressure filling it with a hosepipe, but didn't need to go that far! Still want to find the cause though! Phil
Good to see you've solved your heating problem. Phil. The Holbrook drive clutch mechanism works great. Could you, with your skills, fit the new starter inside the old Allen West shell. There's a nice vintage A W black one for sale on fleabay. It would look the dogs doodars on your lathe. That's if it has the correct internals, or you could swop/modify them. Cheers Tony
It's not a bad price, but no indication of wether its single or 3 phase, and for parts/not working, I will check out my local people to see if I can find one that I can check out before I buy, writing this has triggered a memory of a contact who may be able to help! Phil
Hi Phil RE previous post about position of elliptical throw block - this is of course the drive crank, so when blade is fully extended I assume will be in line with it. Apologies, brain fart.. Trying to ensure the blade lifts on backstroke via the oil dash pot. Cheers, John
@@johnjohnson764 the angle of the blade going forward lifts the piston in the cylinder, and on the backstroke the oil beneath the piston holds the blade out of the cut till the end of the backstroke. The blade teeth point forwards. Mine was not lifting at all but now works perfectly!
Great minds think a like your portable bench you constructed is almost identical to mine, I picked up the frame on Freegle fitted a piece of kitchen worktop, which I shall cover in steel sheet and I picked up a vice to be mounted on the top, it stands on four small casters, two of which have brakes and swivel locks. 😊
Mine had a lump of worktp too, but I have tinned over the original plywood now! It is great to have stuffon wheels as you can quickly move it to that fabled place of legend, somewhere "out of the way" Phil
I will be lighting it the first cold day, and then we will know for certain if it is cured or not! I was using a kerosene torpedo heatr, but the kero is now so expensive, and they are really noisy! Phil
Hi Phil,
Thanks for response - understood. Cheers
what a week Phil,
that bloody temperemental heating system, these things come to try us,
the juices will flow next week now.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
